why does fm take so long to shut down?

Even if I save the game and then just close the window or exit the game it still takes 3 or minutes to shut down?

Surely if it's saved it should be pretty much instant?

Do you have data collection enabled? I have no idea what may be going on if you are talking about FM12.

I read on here someone from SI said you shouldn't shut down immediately after saving as it can corrupt your save. (but it was seconds not minutes)

I'm talking abou the game itself closing.....maybe it's just my laptop being a bit old

Are you playing via a DVD. If so, are you removing it before you shut down the game? Not sure if it is relevant to modern day games, but back in the day, that could cause issues.

You can close it on task manager much more quickly.

There are probably disk operations taking place behind the scenes, cleaning up temporary files, closing file/database connections, and other special magic.

It uses over a gigs worth of memory, so it will be clearing the swap file, temp files etc and laptops have slow hard drives. Firefox can take several second for me to shut down too with a fast computer and fast disk.

EDIT:

If you have another save that does load, then it sounds like the other one has been corrupted- the saving process can run for short while after you exit the game so best to leave the computer for about 30 seconds before shutting down
