Yet more inconsistency as I look good at home but awful away. If I can start to turn these silly losses into draws I should be good for a playoff spot.

I used the formation called Fisher Away or something and it worked well in pretty much all matches how and away.

I'd give it a go using that tactic

So another few league games gone, and Ten Ton's record is 1-2-1. we are comfortably in mid table so far. we have much the same problem as Frazza had last season in that we're averaging about 3 goals a game :):- unfortunately we're conceding the same :(

in the League cup, we lost 3-2 at home to Orient. really annoyed as we were leading into the 87th minute, and had we won, a trip to the Emirates stadium was on the cards.

we're selling out every game, and the small gate receipts will start to really hamper us from here i think.

it's slow progress at the moment i'm afraid - daf, how do you get through the game so quickly!! i also promise to have some screenshots for you soon - all being well either tonight or tomorrow.

A decent month which could take me into the playoff spots if I win my game in hand. I put out the fringe players in the first FA Cup game which struggled through, I was quite surprised to see the same lineup then thump them at home.

Squad (http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y134/dafuge/squad-29.jpg)

There's been a little bit of transfer activity this month. Reserve goalie Neil Rowe (http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y134/dafuge/rowe.jpg) was making a fuss so I sold him for £100k and replaced him with Rob Jones (http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y134/dafuge/jones.jpg) who was unattached. He's never going to be my number 1 but he should be ok as backup. I don't normally do loan signings, but when Jermaine Blackburn got injured I brought in John Coyne (http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y134/dafuge/coyne.jpg) on loan from Sunderland for 3 months to cover him. I've also brought in Kevin Kirkwood (http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y134/dafuge/kirkwood.jpg), purely as backup for the DM position.

I'm looking pretty good for a playoff spot, although there seems to be a group of four at the top who I can't catch (two of which I'm playing away soon).

My next game is Boro away so that should give me an idea about how I'll fare if I make the playoffs.

A decent month in the league which has helped to make that playoff spot look safer, the loss against Boro was a bit disappointing but at least we didn't get stuffed. Finally the FA Cup dream is over, we started well but two second half goals put an end to our dreams.

Absolutely gutted, despite dominating the game early on I found myself 2-0 down very quickly. As I pulled it back to 3-2 I went for it and threw the kitchen sink at them, they scored again to condemn the softies to yet another season in League 1.

There's no real tips to hand on. The squad is pretty good in all areas, just needs general strengthening to close the gap with the bigger clubs in the league. Most of the players I brought in were fairly old so what you see is what you get. Any youngsters I signed were purely for backup and could be sold easily so I wouldn't worry about selling any future stars.

I think the squad as it is stands a very good chance of making the playoffs again, but I don't think it quite has what it takes to challenge for the title. The squad lost a lot of key players just before I joined so I had to work hard to find replacements, I think the squad is probably weaker now than when I took over, apart from in central defence, I made sure we were pretty strong there.

I wasn't expecting that at all, I'm using the same tactic that has given me Keegan like results in my current game. I did spend a bit of time strengthening the defence, so perhaps that's why.

History so far and order of play

The seasons are starting to zip by as both teams make a big push to climb the leagues. Both are now in the 2020/21 season, and both in League 1. This is the Monkeys first season at this level, while the Softies have suffered crashed bottles and choked in the play-off final 2 years running....who'll be first to make it to the Championship?

If anyone else would like to take part, let me know. Newcomers are welcome.

The Softies especially could do with some new blood, or previous participants to sign up for another season.

GazTheDood - you've been on standby for ages, if you want to firm up a position now then do say.

he's 28 now i think, and still a bit restless. doing alright though. it's about 10 in 14 games so far. as for the team, we're mid-table, not too far off the play-offs, but about 7 clear of drop-zone. personally i'll be delighted with that at end of season.

[b]Pre-Season

Legends 4-2 Swindon
Legends 2-0 HSV

Aldershot 2-0 Legends

Legends 3-2 Reading

So Pre season was good winning all our game apart from one beating the likes of Reading and HSV.

August

West Brom 2-1 Legends
Legends 2-1 Bristol City
Bristol Rovers 2-1 Legends
Legends 1-0 Dag & Red (league cup 1st round)
Legends 5-1 Millwall
Grimsby 3-0 Legends
Legends 1-2 Man City (league cup 2nd round)
Legends 1-0 Oldham

August had a mixed bag of results where we got ot where the fans wanted us to get to in the league cup and looked like we were going to go thruogh but Man City equalised in the 92nd minute and scored in extra time.

I am currently 13th with 3 wins and 3 losses in my 6 games but I can easily get into the playoff places from here.

QPR 1-2 Legends (Johnstone's Paint Trophy S 1st Rnd)
Wycombe 0-2 Legends
Legends 0-1 Accrington
Hartlepool 0-0 Legends
Legends 1-0 Barnsley
Lincoln 0-1 Legends

The results picked up in September where we only dropped four points and have found ourself in the last play off spot. Jermaine Blackburn is on fire scoring 13 in 15 games and Sergiu Minca, despite considering his options, is a rock at the back so far this season. Mihai Iacob has played superbly as the player behind the lone striker this season, as has Chris Driver when he has played in the middle of the park.

Gutted, he was only signed last season.

He was costly considering his age but he was superb at the back.

Great to see the softies in league one although its a shame about the playoffs in the last few seasons, so close to the championship. Looking at the curent squad its great to still see driver and blackburn still doing the business, although driver must be well into his thirties now.

How many golas has blackburn now scored for the club?

Good luck for this season Robert

Made it through to the 3rd round of the FA cup, where we play Tranmere. in semis of Johnstones paint trophy too. hope to make it through these two games.

Transfers
These are transfers from the Summer aswell

Oldrich Kares (http://i117.photobucket.com/albums/o46/robert_29694/OldrichKares-1.png) - Oldrich has not been a very good player and is now transfer listed
Paul Marshall (http://i117.photobucket.com/albums/o46/robert_29694/PaulMarshall-1.png) - Paul has been quite a good signing and despite paying £100K I think it was worth it because we got the money back from selling Gary Lynch for the same amount.
Mick O'shea (http://i117.photobucket.com/albums/o46/robert_29694/MickOShea-1.png) - Mick has been a great free signing from Crewe and despite almost being in his 30's he has been one of our best performers and has even chipped in with a goal or two.
James Pendleton (http://i117.photobucket.com/albums/o46/robert_29694/JamesPendleton.png) - I only signed James at the end of the January transfer window and has only played one game but I have very high hopes for the player my coaches have said would be a good signing for any Championship team

Marshall and O'Shea look like good signings, although I would have though Lynch might have been worth more than £100k as he was only 20 or 21. Saying that, in the short term Marshall looks like he'll be more useful for the Legends. O'Shea looks like exactly the sort of player I was missing, he looks better than Hooper.

I'm surprised you even looked at signing a right winger, I thought both Sawyer and Sifter were brilliant, they were two of my best performers.

Ten Ton FC - Season Update - March

i have managed to make a bit more progress on the save, and am now in early March.

League Table - http://img59.imageshack.us/img59/4040/tablemarchld0.jpg
Squad - http://img511.imageshack.us/img511/103/squadmarchsf6.jpg

As you can see from the table, way too many draws have meant we have all but slipped out of the play-off race. i have always had seasons where i draw a number of games, but this season has been incredible. if only a few of the draws had been wins.... On the plus side, i suppose it's got to be condidered a good season, having just been promoted.

in the cups, we were absolutely hammered 2-1 away at Everton in the FA Cup. at least it brought us in a few more pennies. in the Johnstone's Paint trophy, we were cruelly eliminated on penalties in the southern final. :( have to say i was gutted with this. really felt we had a chance of a Wembley Final, but it wasn't to be.

As for the squad, all of the stars are still with us, having successfully navigated the January Transfer window. Dunn continues to star, with 27 goals to date. it could have been more, had he not gone nearly 10 hours without a goal...

As we head towards the end of the season, my aim now is to try and win as many games as possible, and see how far it takes us. i might be able to get the season completed tonight, but that will depend on if i go to watch Sheffield Wednesday play Sheffield FC.....

Guess you know the trajectory you're on but on the face of it, it appears you have a chance of the play offs...as you say if you can nick a few wins, who knows?

Ten Ton FC - Coca Cola League 1 - Season 2020/21 - End of Season Review

Media Expectation: 23rd
Final Position: 10th http://img413.imageshack.us/img413/6547/tablezr9.jpg
http://img413.imageshack.us/img413/87/graphdr7.jpg

All in all, a pretty good first season in the third tier of english football. With only minor additions made to the squad, the boys who got us promoted saw us challenge for a play-off spot for long periods of the season. Hats off to you who brought them in - you know who you are.....

In the end, our penchant for draws and conceding far too many foals ultimately led to our failure to reach the play-offs. we had far too many high scoring games, including a 5-5 draw and a 6-5 defeat..... the age old problem of shipping goals reared it's head again, and but for a tighter defence, we may have made back to back promotions. :(

Squad - http://img413.imageshack.us/img413/6725/squadyy4.jpg

As for the squad, they pretty much did themselves proud. notable mentions go to:

James Smith -http://img301.imageshack.us/img301/6563/smithlv4.jpg - great season on loan for the young scottish ST. did what few thought anyone could do - outscore the legend that is James Dunn! if you can get him back on loan for next season, i'd certainly recommend it.

James Dunn - http://img105.imageshack.us/img105/5411/dunnlz1.jpg - another great season for Dunn. didn't reach the heights of the previous two seasons, but 30+ goals is certainly not to be sniffed at. good luck keeping him at the club again.

NepentheZ - http://img105.imageshack.us/img105/4263/nepenthezab5.jpg - first choice RM, and different class on the wing. heavily in demand, and rightly so.

Dion Robinson - http://img105.imageshack.us/img105/2923/robinsonvn8.jpg - England U-21 CB. great season. deserves to be playing at a much higher level, and will hopefully achieve this with Ten Ton. wanted by all of the big guns, including Man United, Chelsea and Spurs...

rlipscombe - http://img105.imageshack.us/img105/6494/rlipscombecs7.jpg - what can i say about 'myself'... good solid first season, and i'm sure he'll develop into a star for the team.

Best XI (Season) - http://img301.imageshack.us/img301/9347/bestxiseasonur0.jpg
Best XI (Overall) - http://img105.imageshack.us/img105/583/contractextensioncp1.jpg"

Finances - http://img301.imageshack.us/img301/6807/fiancesfv7.jpg

As for the finances, a decent profit made on the season. with no transfer budget to spend, no losses made there. wages were never really over budget, but the small capacity of the ground is severly hindering our progress i feel. if this was my career game, i'd be looking to sell someone, maybe Robinson. try and get £3 million for him, and hope this is enough for the board to expand the ground a bit... but that's up to you bermybhoy!

so where does that leave you...

the state of the club is this: all of the stars are unhappy again and want to move, so your main job, if you want to, will be to keep tham sweet and keep them at the club. i've been rejecting offers on an almost daily basis.

i've only signed you one player for next season, a RB released on a free. he's got a proven record at this level, and RB was an area i felt we were particularly weak in. i hope you like him - i think he'll do a good job for the club. http://img105.imageshack.us/img105/2414/tunneysigningta5.jpg

you have a new contract at the club, and the board love Paul. we're getting linked with a host of jobs at the moment too. still no place on favoured personnel last time i looked though!! http://img105.imageshack.us/img105/583/contractextensioncp1.jpg (http://src="http://img105.imageshack.us/img105/583/contractextensioncp1.jpg)"

so, it's over to you bermybhoy - good luck with the promotion bid. i'll update the save game tonight when i get home from work. should be up before 8pm. any preferences on where i upload to??

good luck

End Of Season Report

We started off the season badly around midtable and then our season improved were we went in and around the playoff places. But at about halfway through the season we just couldn't start winning games and we dropped all the way down to 14th. I was very dissapointed with this season as in the last two seasons we reached the playoff final.

I was very pleased with Jermaine Blackburn who scored 35 goals and had an average rating of 7.38 the only problem was that the next top scorer was Mihai Iacob who scored 8 goals and had an average rating of just over 7 from attacking midfield. Another bright thing that happened in a very bad season was Mick O'Shea who despite almost being in his thirties was our second best player after Blackburn with an average rating of 7.10 and even chipped in with 5 goals and 7 assists.

My first XI was for most of the time:

Jones

Priest Minca Armenean Marshall

Sawyer O'Shea Driver Hodgson
Iacob
BlackburnI realise now that Pendleton was a bad signing and he has not performed well at all.

Top Goalscorer Jermaine Blackburn (25)
Most Assists Mihai Iacob/ Péter Sifter (9)
Man Of The Match Jermaine Blackburn (9)
Yellow Cards Cristian Armenean (7)
Red Cards Sergiu Minca (1)
Average Rating Jermaine Blackburn (7.38)

i don't see much of a problem giving a nickname to a player we rate highly, as long as it is someone you sign, and only one has a nickname... adds a bit of extra interest, as it is an added 'interest' in the challenge.

that's just my opinion though.

Unlucky Robert. If you change your mind you're more than welcome to rejoin, obviously. Being the original Softie manager it would be a shame if you weren't still involved.

Just looking at the in more detail rlipscombe, think we have a pretty good squad, but if they're all unhappy going to be hard to get them performing well. Not sure, if as you suggest it's worth letting a couple leave. The issue is always being able to find players of anything like similar quality who're willing to join and replace them...

Just looking at the in more detail rlipscombe, think we have a pretty good squad, but if they're all unhappy going to be hard to get them performing well. Not sure, if as you suggest it's worth letting a couple leave. The issue is always being able to find players of anything like similar quality who're willing to join and replace them...

yeah, the squad is pretty strong, if maybe a little light. i made only minor additions to it. with regards to the unhappiness, they were all unhappy at this time last year, and they did perform for me. no one has demeanded to go on the transfer list as yet. it's your call if you want to let a couple leave or not. from a fiancial pint of view, we could probably do with a 'big' sale... depends if we could then replace them like for like i guess. i do think that we can get in pretty good players though now - the only issue is that there is no transfer budget.

Thanks lads.

I made a brief start on it last night. All I've done so far is release everyone who was coming out of contract, which has lowered the wage bill down to £26k, leaving £12k to play with. On first impressions, I can't say I'm too impressed with this squad. Cook, Robinson, Smith, Rlipscombe, Nepenthez and Dunn seem to form a solid spine through the squad, and Heath looks ok on the right. But we basically don't have full backs other than the guy we have coming in, but I see you were using loans for those positions last season. here's no-one at all on the left. To be honest, you've done very very well with those resources, rlipscombe.

We also have a chronic lack of cash and no chance of a stadium upgrade. We might be in the same division, but the Softies are in a different league.

I think some tough decisions need to be taken. We need to bring in cash from player sales over the course of a few years, because gate money isn't going to boost the coffers enough. As such, I've taken off the 'reject all offers' setting for everyone, increased their asking prices significantly, and will see what happens. If we get some mega bids, I think it would be stupid to turn them down. Most of these guys are already in their prime and it's almost last chance saloon in regards to cashing in on them in the transfer market. I think selling a couple and enduring a hard season might ultimately be to the benefit of the club.

I will of course let you know if any tempting offers come in....

Pallesen looks quality and is only young so could be in the team for years to come. Happy to bring Rinaldi back to the club, he missed preseason with an injury so needs to get his match fitness up.

tough decisions do have to be made. i do feel that we might have to sell one 'star' a season maybe to keep afloat in the league so to speak. if it was my career game, i'd try and get £2.5-£3million for Robinson as my first sale. he's wanted by all of the big clubs, an England U-21 international. he definately our most 'valuable' asset IMO. Might be able to get £1million+ for Dunn and NepentheZ, but could we replace quality with quality?? i don't know.

with regards to the ground, the only way we're going to get expansions, barring a miracle, is to raise the bank balance, and realistically this can only be done via player sales. This is a severe handicap compared to the Legends.....

as for team, full-back was a weak area which is why i signed Tunney. LB was a problem area. i had NepentheZ on the right, with Williamson in the AMC role, although Dunn played there at times too, and did well.

good luck bermybhoy. i feel you have some big decisions to make.... with help from the other monkeys that is!! :D

He was worth about £180k. Yeah, I probably could have got more, but decided to try and encourage a low bid, that I'd be able to reject and keep him. It just didn't work. In hindsight, I might have listed him for more, but any higher bid would have been accepted and he'd definitely have left.

Ten Ton - further pre season update

Ok, I've been busy.

First major news item - and a real double edged sword - NepentheZ may be on the move. Leeds Utd came in with an offer, I negotiated up to £3m + 50% sell on. They surprisingly agreed, and of course, the chairman accepted. As I write he's not gone yet, but it's looking likely. It's unfortunate, and apologies to Nep himself. Looking at the bigger picture though, that's exactly the kind of sale we need. To put it in perspecive, our previous record sale is £500k, last season. I wasn't banking on having to replace him, so back to the transfer market if it goes through.

Secondly, I'm considering selling Cook (http://i290.photobucket.com/albums/ll247/bermybhoy/ten%20ton%203rd%20season/update%201/player-gkcook.jpg). I've signed two new keepers, O'Neill (http://i290.photobucket.com/albums/ll247/bermybhoy/ten%20ton%203rd%20season/update%201/player-gkoneill.jpg) (on a free from Spurs, where he was valued at over £800k) and Dixon (http://i290.photobucket.com/albums/ll247/bermybhoy/ten%20ton%203rd%20season/update%201/player-gkdixon.jpg)
(for £26k from Man Utd no less, where he was rated at pushing £1m, but transfer listed). Now personally I think Dixon is almost as good as Cook, and O'Neill should be decent backup. With Cook making noises anyway - he's been stripped of the vice-captain position for skipping training - I reckon I can get a couple of million for him, so think it might be wise to send him on his bike. I hope no-one objects.

Will try and do an update of all the ins and outs at the end of August.

Nep update

I'm afraid he's gone. Gone, but £3m in the bank, and he leaves a club legend, as this (http://i290.photobucket.com/albums/ll247/bermybhoy/ten%20ton%203rd%20season/update%201/Neogone.jpg) shows. Just looking at his ratings the last two seasons, he'll be sorely missed.

Edit: On the upside of all this, I now have a £2m transfer budget and an extra £8k p/week wages to play with. Super. Whether I can make much use of it remains to be seen...

rlipscombe
02-08-2008, 10:13
i think you have done the inveitable there bermybhoy. £3m is good work for NepentheZ to be honest, and hopefully we can invest the money wisely. Dixon looks like he's a good GK, so i'd see if you can get another £2m or so for Cook. O'Neill is a decent back-up too.

any news on a new ST yet??

Frazza Pee
02-08-2008, 10:48
I don't know if that was a good deal or a bad deal for NepentheZ as, in my season, he was one of the top performers. Maybe it will be a chance for Heath to show what hes got?

PaulHartman71
02-08-2008, 11:34
3M is a great price as we really needed some cash, and we didn't want to make the same mistake we made with Dunn, keeping him until we couldn't get the amount we deserved. Well Done Bermy, hopefully we can buy a good replacement. Oh, and Dixon is looking good

Ten Ton transfers 2021/22 - sales

This is possibly the busiest transfer window I've been involved in. As stated above, I think it's been necessary.

First out the door was everyone coming out of contract. No hugely notable names from recent history, mosly just dead wood. I then sold Dave Morgan for £120k. A decent CB, he was not nearly as good as what we have, and very slow, which I hate.

Next out, was James Dunn. The less said the better. I think the reasons for the chairman accepting £400k were the poor bank balance, and the fact that my free transfer signings had pushed us slightly over the wage budget. Anyway, after that I allowed another striker, Stephen Harris, to go for £200k to Stockport. They're in L2, and I think that's his level.

Next up was Stepehn Roche, who went on a free with best wished to Ebbsfleet. A club stalwart, his wages were relatively high and he would struggle for a game. As also discussed NepentheZ also departed, raking in £3m from Leeds.

After that sales weren't strictly necessary, and more based on good value or the chairman forcing it through. A £400k offer for Dale Goulding, a decent left winger, was accepted as I reckon we could find better. Michael Bentley was a young AMC, who we got another £100k from Championship Preston (his ratings look poor, I think it's their mistake), then a slightly controvertial one - I got an enquiry for Willie Williamsom, who hasn't ever been a first choice but would've taken Nep's place - I asked for £800k as a starting point, and when that was offered, the chairman again accepted. Slightly frustrating.

Next out was Jimmy Russell, the left back. Not that good and with two better players signed, £250k was good money from Lincoln. The last was a big one. Unhappy and attracting bids all summer which I'd been negotiating to around £3.5m - Rangers finally bit and offered £3m for Dion Robinson. He really is an excellent player, but of course the chairman felt the bid too good to turn down. That's precisely the sum suggested by rlipscombe for his earlier, and represents decent business.

So, if you've been keeping up - that's a massive £8.25m in sales. The chairman now 'concurs' that we need a bigger stadium, and has plans afoot, so that should happen at the end of the season. We have a £4m transfer budget and a wage budget of £78k per week -which has doubled since the start of the window. We can offer just under £10k per week to any player. Gents, I may have got carried away raking money in, but I think I can confidently say this club is now in a position to really progress.

I'll do a report of new players and the first few games later...there's been a lot coming in, too.

Right enough, but the chairman really shouldn't accept bids like that. I mean Dunn was worth more than 400k and, when it was my turn, he accepted a 300k bid for Knight when he was worth alot more imo.

PaulHartman71
02-08-2008, 14:28

I can't remember us being in debt when I was in charge. Or do you mean the Dunn sale?

bermybhoy
02-08-2008, 14:43
We weren't in debt this time either, but only had £500k in the bank and were over wage budget. One thing's for sure, if we'd made those other sales earlier, the Dunn transfer would never have happened.

PaulHartman71
02-08-2008, 14:53
when I was in charge we weren't in debt, but we were heading that way, we were heavily over the wage budget and not getting enough money through gate receipts and such, this season is the start of a much brighter future imo

Ten Ton season 2021/22 - purchases

Well after all those sales and free transfers, we needed to really bolster the squad. I got slightly carried away, with 34 (count 'em) coming in.

Transfers 1 (http://i290.photobucket.com/albums/ll247/bermybhoy/ten%20ton%203rd%20season/update%201/Transfers1.jpg)
Transfers 2 (http://i290.photobucket.com/albums/ll247/bermybhoy/ten%20ton%203rd%20season/update%201/Transfers2.jpg)

A lot of these are young players filling the reserves, as we were light on numbers and who knows, we might find a hidden gem. In some cases I signed players who were needed at the time, then as sales were made, freeing up cash, better options became available. The result is we have decent back up in all positions. I'll see how they all do and may have another mini clear-out in January. A few are moaning about too much competition for places already.

In no particular order other then that they signed, for some of the highlights, we have:
Andrews (http://i290.photobucket.com/albums/ll247/bermybhoy/ten%20ton%203rd%20season/update%201/1-Andrews.jpg) Adaptable at right or left back, hasn't impressed so far though.
Clare (http://i290.photobucket.com/albums/ll247/bermybhoy/ten%20ton%203rd%20season/update%201/2-clare.jpg) Hopefully solution to the left back problems
Allen (http://i290.photobucket.com/albums/ll247/bermybhoy/ten%20ton%203rd%20season/update%201/3-Allen.jpg) Cost £50k from Villa to replace Robinson, looks decent but seems to lose everything in the air. Might try other options
Gordon (http://i290.photobucket.com/albums/ll247/bermybhoy/ten%20ton%203rd%20season/update%201/4-Gordon.jpg) Snagged on a free, and might be an alternative to Allen.
Nolan (http://i290.photobucket.com/albums/ll247/bermybhoy/ten%20ton%203rd%20season/update%201/5-Nolan.jpg) Came in on a free. One of a number of strikers who might fill Dunn's boots
Maguire (http://i290.photobucket.com/albums/ll247/bermybhoy/ten%20ton%203rd%20season/update%201/6-Maguire.jpg) Feeling flush, I splashed £60k on him from Reading. Yet to feature due to injury.
Owen (http://i290.photobucket.com/albums/ll247/bermybhoy/ten%20ton%203rd%20season/update%201/7-Owen.jpg) Not great on paper, but has excellent average ratings from past seasons. Might cover the blow of Nep leaving.
Lien (http://i290.photobucket.com/albums/ll247/bermybhoy/ten%20ton%203rd%20season/update%201/8-Lien.jpg) Veteran left winger, still seems to have it. Can rotate him with Burns (below)
Burns (http://i290.photobucket.com/albums/ll247/bermybhoy/ten%20ton%203rd%20season/update%201/9-Burns.jpg) Left winger, should fill what was a weak position.
Shaw (http://i290.photobucket.com/albums/ll247/bermybhoy/ten%20ton%203rd%20season/update%201/10-Shaw.jpg) Another possible striking solution, signed late and yet to get to full fitness so been out the team.
Dayan (http://i290.photobucket.com/albums/ll247/bermybhoy/ten%20ton%203rd%20season/update%201/11-Dayan.jpg) Biggest signing at £110k. At 30, he brings experience to central midfield. Looks decent next to Pacinda, who was signed from Slovan Bratislava, both look class acts.

So there's been a lot of change, can this new squad bring the Monkeys to glory?

Pre-season went well. We played a load of lower league/non-league teams, which suits me as running up big wins boosts moral no end, and won them all, including knocking 6 past Chippenham.

August fixtures:
Port Vale 2-0 Ten Ton - Poor performance. They're a decent team and deserved to win.
Luton 2-4 Ten Ton (League Cup 1st round) - Good performance, albeit against L2 opposition. Robinson actually bagged two of these, prior to his sale.
Ten Ton 1-0 Burnley - First league win. Could'e went either way, but Robinson was again the man to score. We might well miss him.
Watford 1-0 Ten Ton - We never looked likely to score. Nolan was poor up front, but still looks the best option.

September fixtures:
Ten Ton 1-2 Norwich (League Cup 2nd Round) - That was a short and sweet cup run. Dale Russell, a Bermudian midfielder, scored an early scorcher, but we wer 2-1 down by half time. Rlipscombe then missed a pen just after half time, and we couldn't find a way through. Decent performance against a Championship team though.
Ten Ton 2-3 Scunthorpe - very frustrating. We are better, for sure, but didn't play well at all. Tactical tweaking is needed.
QPR 0-1 Ten Ton - Smash and grab effort this one. Mark Butcher, on as sub, nicked one deep in injury time on a breakaway. Sweet win against a decent team.
Ten Ton 4-3 Charlton - Great game.Pacinda and Dayan scored long range screamers to put us 2-1 up at half time, Derek Burns added one from the left wing, but we were pegged back to 3-3. Again, in the last minute, Leigh Allen, who'd hardly won a header all day, popped up at a corner and won it with the final touch.
Ten Ton 4-3 Barnsley - Another good game, against a team sitting 3rd, putting us on a 3 match winning streak. Heath, the right winger, banged two away, an o.g. that was a deflection from one of Dayan's piledrivers and a first Ten Ton goal for Nolan secured a great win.
Grays 3-0 Ten Ton - how did this happen? Very even game, but they scored early then just kept aking their chances.

So at the end of September, we have a record of 4-0-4, and sit 10th. It's not a disaster by any means, but I feel we can do better and get a play off spot. I'm playing one up front, my favoured formation from my Hitchin game, and the lack of quality is telling. I reckon with Dunn there, we'd be flying by now.

By the way, I forgot to mention above, all of the players were sold with 50% sell on clauses. Let's hope they get itchy feet, especially Robinson...

a lot of signings there bermybhoy!! i can't blame you for the squad overhaul - it should ultimately make us better long term. as for the signings i reckon Nolan and Shaw look the best.

i think this could be a transitional year for us - prove us wrong!!

Ten Ton season 2021/22 - October update

Busy month, but really not very successful.

October fixtures:

Ten Ton 1-2 Oldham - Again, not sure how this happened, we had about 14 shots to their 5, and looked decent, except for being unable to score.
Ten Ton 3-1 Northampton - This was more like it. Lost an early goal, then equalised when a half way line clearence from the right back Andrews somehow went in. Heath popped up with a corker then Gordon, playing in place of Allen, sealed it in the last minute.
Carlisle 1-0 Ten Ton - Awful performance, Carlisle didn't do much, but didn't have to.
Coventry 2-1 Ten Ton (JPT 2nd round) - Simply beaten by better opposition. Centre back Gordon again the scorer.
Coventry 2-0 Ten Ton - As above, without the consolation goal.
Ten Ton 2-0 Wycombe - Back on track? I tried Lien up front and he scored, with Heath rounding it off. Should have been far more.
Walsall 1-1 Ten Ton - Again Gordon the scorer. We just did not look dangerous, although had an incredible amount of shots, most of which were off target and didn't even warrant highlights. Might need to tone down the long shots.

After all that we find ourselves sitting 13th, 6 points off the play offs and only 9 from the leaders. It's a tight division, if we can start scoring and winning a few games, we should shoot up. The main issue is that the strikers just don't seem up to it - they have one goal between the lot of them as the squad overview (http://i290.photobucket.com/albums/ll247/bermybhoy/ten%20ton%203rd%20season/update%201/squadendOct-1.jpg) shows. I'm playing one up front, which maybe doesn't suit them, but I've tried them all and none look any good. As such, I'm opening the chequebook again come January.

First up is Lee Gleeson (http://i290.photobucket.com/albums/ll247/bermybhoy/ten%20ton%203rd%20season/update%201/gleeson.jpg) from League 2 Exeter, for £160k. He's been very consistent at that level, and I think can make the step up easily. Then there's a youngster, Jim Miles (http://i290.photobucket.com/albums/ll247/bermybhoy/ten%20ton%203rd%20season/update%201/miles.jpg) from Burnely for £675k. I think this boy has potential. He is possibly already better than our existing forwards. Finally (for now) there's Mark Perry (http://i290.photobucket.com/albums/ll247/bermybhoy/ten%20ton%203rd%20season/update%201/perry.jpg), who'll cost a cool £500k from Reading. The scout report reckons he's 'a lot better' than Derek Burns, who to be fair has done well so far, so this is really just taking an opportunity that presented itself, rather than fixing a problem. Fingers crossed Gleeson or Miles will know where the net is.

I imagine the kind of squad overhaul you had might take a little while to settle down, should be better in the long term though.

Ten Ton season 2021/22 - December update

November fixtures:
Ten Ton 2-2 Grimsby - Good game, very even with the wingers Davis and Lien chipping in.
Brentford 1-0 Ten Ton - Poor performance from the lads, debutant Mark Menechella drew a blank as we again played poorly
Leigh 0-2 Ten Ton (FA Cup 1st round) - Menechella gets off the mark, matching the best goalscoring reord of any other striker in his second game. Smith, by now playing at DM where he is pretty effective, also netted with the game wrapped up inside 16 minutes.
Barnet 0-1 Ten Ton - Uneventful game with centre back Allen, restored to the side with Smith moving forward, the scorer of the only goal.

December fixtures:
Ten Ton 2-2 Millwall - Menechella really showed his worth here, netting both as we stormed to a 2-0 half time lead. However, high flying Millwall nearly played us off the park, and the only shock is tha they didn't manage to win it in the second half. A very creditable result.
Ten Ton 4-0 Newport Co (FA Cup 2nd round) - Routine win over League 2 opponents, that man Menechella netting again, with right winger Heath scoring 2 great goals.
Ten Ton 2-0 Mansfield - Menechella again with a brace to seal a good win.
Crewe 1-2 Ten Ton - Menechella again scored twice, and even managed to miss 2 penalties. Despite that, Crewe edged the play and shots on goal. We don't create much, but what we do is effective.
Ten Ton 3-2 Hull - Poised at 2-2 with 3 minutes to go, Heath notches one to win it for Ten Ton. The game stats are: shots - Ten Ton 9 (5 on target) - Hull 18 (7); possession Ten Ton 44% - 56% Hull. As I say,we don't look great, but we're pretty effective.
Middlesbrough 1-2 Ten Ton - 1-1 until the final minute, and Heath is again the man to break the opposition's hearts. Menechella picked up an injury and will be missing for a couple of weeks.
Ten Ton 2-1 Port Vale - Cruised this one, only 7 shots on goal but completely in contol. Unusually, the other team scored in the last minute, it counted for nothing as we made it 7 league games unbeaten, with 5 wins on the trot.

So November saw a continuation of so-so league form. With the strikers still clearly useless, bringing in a loan signing became a priority, leading to the acquisition of Mark Menechella (http://i290.photobucket.com/albums/ll247/bermybhoy/ten%20ton%203rd%20season/december/menechella.jpg) from Portsmouth for 3 months. He really has been a class act - has pace and knows where the goal is, something we've been entirely lacking. Filling Dunn's boots really - we'd be pushing for promotion if we'd had either of them all season.

Things really came together in December, dropping only 2 points from a possible 18, a performance that earned Wallace manager of the month (http://i290.photobucket.com/albums/ll247/bermybhoy/ten%20ton%203rd%20season/december/mgrofmonth.jpg). Really, looking at it, not too many of these wins were especially convincing, but wins nonetheless. It does feel a bit like the wheels might come off at any time to be honest, so best bask in the glory of 4th place in the league while it lasts, and before Menechella's loan expires.

League table (http://i290.photobucket.com/albums/ll247/bermybhoy/ten%20ton%203rd%20season/december/leaguetable.jpg) - 4th!!! In with a shout of the playoffs. Bradford look a class apart, then there's a whole group capable of taking points off each other.
Ten Ton squad (http://i290.photobucket.com/albums/ll247/bermybhoy/ten%20ton%203rd%20season/december/squad.jpg) 9 in 9 for Menechella. I'll say it again, if only we had him all season....

Ten Ton season 2021/22 - February update

January fixtures:
Burnley 1-1 Ten Ton - December's form ebbed away on New Year's Day. Dubutant Lee Gleeson, signed for £160k, came off the bench to notch a late goal to seal the draw. Again, with that single debut goal he's matched the best record of ANY OTHER STRIKER in the squad.
Ten Ton 1-0 Bradford - Almost nothing happened, the Heath, probably our player of the year, did what he does best - scoring in the very last minute to win the game.
Ten Ton 0-3 Swansea (FA Cup 3rd round) - This was gutting. Swansea are Premiership opposition, so I didn't expect too much. With Menechella back from injury though, we looked threatening, and easily held the upper hand, until Swansea hit us with a sucker punch just before half time. We looked poor at the start of the second, lost another couple quickly and that was that. Good performance though, matching them for shots on goal and possession. Very unlucky.
Ten Ton 2-3 Watford - The concern was that after our good run, that defeat to Swansea would set us back in the league. So it proved, but quite how is anyone's guess. Watford did literally nothing except score, which is I suppose a useful habit. Pacinda and Allen reduced the deficit late on, but to no avail.
Scunthorpe 1-0 Ten Ton - Appalling game, we didn't deserve to score. The good form appears to be over.
Ten Ton 2-0 QPR - Or perhaps not? Menechella is the only difference here, netting twice in an even game. QPR has as many shots, but our defence looked solid.
Charlton 0-2 Ten Ton - Fantastic performance, this, probably our best of the season. Played our attacking home formation, with some dividends, Charlton barely had a sniff. All this without Menechalla, who is again injured. This time, it will keep him out until after his loan expires.

February fixtures:
Barnsley 5-4 Ten Ton - Decided to stick with the attacking option for this game at the best team in the league. Their centre forward Pinnock, ran riot in the first half, scorin a hattrick. Young £675k signing Jim Miles though, who came on up front for the injured Gleeson after 35 minutes, pulled one back just before half time, to make it 3-1. Then, in the second half, he also completed his hat-trick pulling it back to 3-3; brilliant stuff from the 18 year old. We stuck with the attacking game, and it fell apart, Barnsley notching another 2 by the 70 minute. A 30 yard screamer from Pacinda reduced the deficit to 1 with 10 minute remaining, but there was no way back.
Ten Ton 1-2 Grays - A disappointing one this. Grays did very little except score. We didn't play well though, and really need to rediscover our form soon before we slip out of the play off places.
Ten Ton 1-1 Carlisle - Poor performance again. Midfielder Russell scored a trademark 25 yard screamer 8 minutes from time, but we barely deserved it.
Northampton 2-1 Ten Ton - We're now losing to entirely mediocre opposition. I think tactical changes are needed, as this was on paper a decent performance, but from the highlights you could tell we did very little to threaten, and they looked on top.
Oldham 3-1 Ten Ton - Tried out an old, straight 4-4-2 formation, without luck. To be fair it was an even game, but again our strikers were out of form, the only goal being gift wrapped from a defensive error in the fort minute. Our form is now hitting crisis levels, as we go to 5 games without a win, slipping back to 10th, although only 2 points off the play offs.
Ten Ton 3-1 Coventry - Suddenly everything looks better. This was a great performance, storming to a 3-0 lead through Galloway, who scored then set one up for Burns, making a start for the first time in ages, and Smith.

Menechella update: our form is largely dependent on this guy, it seems, so with him recovered from his injury, I tried to re-acquire him on loan before the Coventry game. But it turns out there's a stupid limit of 3 months any player can be at loan elsewhere, so it was a non-starter. Gutted. However, we have previously signed another forward, Galloway, on loan who has a bit of pace so should fit the system well and gives more options up front.

So after an appalling slump in January and February, the month ends on a high and the fans can once more dream of a play off berth. Automatic promotion is now gone, having been a possibility at the end of December, and the play offs are no more than an outside bet, unless we find a bit of consistency. The good news is we're still in the hunt despite a mediocre league record, so there's hope of a miracle yet.
Some bad news is that Heath (http://i290.photobucket.com/albums/ll247/bermybhoy/ten%20ton%203rd%20season/february/heath.jpg), who has been brilliant on the right wing and scored some vital goals, is refusing a new contract, being desperate to move. He's out of contract at the end of the season, so it would make sense to transfer list him soon, to make sure we get some cash for him; he's leaving anyway.

Ok Dava, will see what I can do. I doubt they'll go lower than 650k, and don't want to haggle too much and encourage other teams into a bidding war.

At the minute we have a transfer budget of around 5m remaining, but I suspect that will drop next season as I'm hoping the board will give a nice big stadium expansion. Therefore, it probably makes sense to do business like this while we can.

Thought I better check as I'm aware I've done a lot this season and don't want to take over completely. As we've seen from past efforts, you're a bit of a tactical whiz anyway, I'm sure you can get more out of this group than I'm doing currently, with or without a mountain to cash to spend.

Dava
04-08-2008, 19:57
ha, first time I've been called a tactical whiz, I just had a good team in a bad league, all those players you sold for megabucks this year (except robinson) I had at my disposal in the BSP! although I am been very very modest!

Just a quick note I don't like to play out and out fullbacks (only on away tactics), so please avoid buying any DR/L with no other positions I just don't rate them on this version of FM.

Feel free to blow as much of the budget while you can, it's a bigger and better era for the club.

I finally mastered the art of making my full backs overlap, so I always make sure they can play wing back as well, or retrain them to do so, so no worries there.

In any case, doubt I'll make too many signings, will just do it if there's anyone providing real value who crops up.

Ten Ton season 2021/22 - March update

March fixtures:
Wycombe 2-4 Ten Ton - another outstanding performance. Wycombe didn't deserve their two goals, but might have snatched the draw but for a long range Burns free kick and another great, late goal from Heath. Burns is playing out his skin, having been restored to the side recenly after being dropped for £500k signing Mark Perry, who hasn't lived up to the price tag yet, and scored twice in this one. This puts us back in 6th...
Ten Ton 2-3 Walsall - just as I thought a corner had been turned, this happens - defeat at home to relegation fodder. Cook was in goal for the second game in a row due to injuries, and was dreadful.
Grimsby 2-2 Ten Ton - on the face of it a decent result against the 2nd placed team. But again Cook sold the jerseys, losing a couple of poor goals, and our centre back missed a chance of a winner from literally 2 yards. Galloway was excellent, getting both goals.
Ten Ton 3-1 Brentford - This is a potentially vital win, against play off rivals. 2-0 up through Heath and Miles, Brentford laid seige to the goal and pulled one back. With Brentford still threatening, 3 minutes from time the youngster Miles picked it up and curled home from 25 yeards. Starting to look like £675k well spent.
Millwall 3-3 Ten Ton - 2-1 up at half time, Millwall came back with all guns blazing and went into the lead 3-2, before Miles yet again was the hero, again netting from long range from his attacking midfield position. Our first goal from Galloway was probably a mile offside - love it when that happens.

A decent month for the club, after that we lie 8th, 4 points off the play off spot. We need to pick up mostly wins in the remaining 6 games, starting with Barnet, who are truly appalling and already relegated.

There some good new and some bad news: first off, Mark Menechella will be a Ten Ton player next season (http://i290.photobucket.com/albums/ll247/bermybhoy/ten%20ton%203rd%20season/march/goodnews.jpg). I think the deal is £300k up front and the same again after 50 goals, on less than a grand a week. Hopefully he can replicate his form. The bad news is that Heath keeps going missing from training and is now the subject of a contract offer from Rangers. Pity he won't be around longer (and that he'll leave for nothing) as he's having a storming season, having previously been in NepentheZ's shade.

Squad (http://i290.photobucket.com/albums/ll247/bermybhoy/ten%20ton%203rd%20season/march/squad.jpg) - Miles is picking up some form, doing well when he starts.Galloway has also done well, and might be worth looking at for next season.
League table (http://i290.photobucket.com/albums/ll247/bermybhoy/ten%20ton%203rd%20season/march/leaguetable.jpg) - Sitting poised to strike, or will it be glorious failure?
Run in (http://i290.photobucket.com/albums/ll247/bermybhoy/ten%20ton%203rd%20season/march/results.jpg) 2 games against relegation fodder in Barnet and Crewe, but some very tough games against Middlesbrough, Mansfield and Bradford.

Going to try and push through and finish this tonight, updates to come...

Ten Ton season 2021/22 - April update

April fixtures:
Ten Ton 4-2 Barnet - Almost a disaster, what with being a goal down at half time and playing poorly. Galloway then came to the rescue, netting all 4 before Barnet pulled another back. Galloway was then sent off for handbags with a Barnet player that aw him red carded too, so an eventful game for the on loan hero. Hopefully the ban is only one game, or we have ourselves a problem.
Mansfield 0-0 Ten Ton - Went gunning for the win in the first half, but it was to open for my liking so shut up shop for the second, and literally nothing happened. Leaves us 3 points off 6th place, with inferior goald difference. Galloway missed this one and will also miss the next.
Ten Ton 3-2 Crewe - Again, close to disaster. Crewe were 2-1 up at half time, and on top. Jim Miles scored his second of the game before we exchanged 3 disallowed goals - 2 for us. By the end we were playing 3-2-5 and Miles proved the hero, sealing his hattrick, and the win, in the 88th minute. Now a point behind Brentford, who are 6th.
Hull 3-0 Ten Ton - Unbelievable. Two goals from corners. Schoolboy stuff. The third came with everyone thrown forward. Played ok, just couldn't score.

Still just a point behind Brentford, but with the two hardest games remaining :(

Ten Ton 2-0 Middlesbrough
Wycombe 4-2 Brentford

A great win with goals by Miles and Galloway. Their goalkeeper STILL got man of the match, which tells it's own story.

But the big result is Brentford's defeat - it puts us 2 points ahead of them, in 6th place.

In the final games, we play Bradford away, who're already promoted and lost their last game. Brentford, the only team who can deny us, take on Wallsall who are 22nd, but on a better run of form than Brentford, who've lost 4 out of their last 5. A draw only suits us if Brenford fail to win, as they have better goal difference.

Grimsby 3 - 3 Legend FC
Swansea 0 - 1 Legend FC - League Cup 1st Round
Southampton 1 - 3 Legend FC
Legend FC 3 - 0 Dag & Red

A good month, stayed unbeaten.

Swansea are from the championship, so it was nice to get a deserved win there.

League 1 Play-off Final - Oldham v Ten Ton FC

7' - Oldham's Nick Warner finds space in the box and ha a simple finish, to make it 1-0 Oldham.
27' - A deep left wing cross is met by the head of Andrew Johnson - poor defending again - 2-0 Oldham
29' - Almost from kick off, Miles finds HEath running down the righ wing. He cuts in side and hits an angled shot into the far corner - 2-1 Oldham
63' - Ben Gordon gives away a penalty to Oldham. Kevin Brown makes no mistake - 3-1 Oldham. Ten Ton are going to have to go for it.
75' - Johnson is first to the ball 6 yards out - 4-1 Oldham, Ten Ton look down and out.
77' - Or maybe not - stright from kick off, Heath scores again, to pull another back - 4-2 Oldham
86' - Gleeson comes on for Gordon, as Ten Ton go 3-2-5
87' - Oldham's Perry concedes a penalty. Young Galloway steps up and cooly slots home - 4-3 Oldham

It's all too little too late for Ten Ton. We were chasing the game from the very start, and Oldham are a good side. They've been on form, and deserve the win. :(

Ten Ton season 2021/22 - summary

It was a season of major upheaval for the Monkeys, with a vast number of players coming in and out. Some of those who left were sorely missed, but have put the club on a sound financial footing. It ultimately ended in disappointment when an unexpected play off final appearance ended in defeat.

Final league table (http://i290.photobucket.com/albums/ll247/bermybhoy/ten%20ton%203rd%20season/final%20update/leaguetable.jpg) - we finished 6th, against a prediction of 20th
Board confidence (http://i290.photobucket.com/albums/ll247/bermybhoy/ten%20ton%203rd%20season/final%20update/boardconfidence.jpg) - they are more than happy
Season summary (http://i290.photobucket.com/albums/ll247/bermybhoy/ten%20ton%203rd%20season/final%20update/seasonsummary.jpg) - Ten Ton FC ranked as overachievers
Finances (http://i290.photobucket.com/albums/ll247/bermybhoy/ten%20ton%203rd%20season/final%20update/finances.jpg) - further boosted by the play off final, and in a very good way, with over £5m in the bank.

Unfortunately, despite being promised a stadium expansion at last, it was blocked by the council. We're stuck at 3,000, and it's no-where near enough. However, it looks like training and youth facilities are being upgraded.

Players
We now have a decent, if large, squad.
Average ratings (http://i290.photobucket.com/albums/ll247/bermybhoy/ten%20ton%203rd%20season/final%20update/squadratings.jpg)
Assistant reports (http://i290.photobucket.com/albums/ll247/bermybhoy/ten%20ton%203rd%20season/final%20update/squadasstreports.jpg)

Goalkeepers - Danny Cook is probably the best of the bunch, but wants to leave, kept missing training and played badly when called on. Should be sold, but no-one's willing to pay a fair price. Dixon played most games and is pretty decent.

Defenders - No real stand outs here. We have too many centre backs, with not much difference between them. Allen and Gordon was the usual partnership, and Scott Smith is also solid at centre back.

Midfield - Rlipscombe looks promising, but I preferred to play club captain Scott Smith (http://i290.photobucket.com/albums/ll247/bermybhoy/ten%20ton%203rd%20season/final%20update/scottsmith.jpg) at defensive midfield. A top, top player. Peter Pacinda (http://i290.photobucket.com/albums/ll247/bermybhoy/ten%20ton%203rd%20season/final%20update/peterpacinda.jpg) is also excellent in central midfield. Bermudian Dale Russell (http://i290.photobucket.com/albums/ll247/bermybhoy/ten%20ton%203rd%20season/final%20update/dalerussell.jpg) (whose place of birth, Smiths, is the same parish I live in - hurrah!) was surprisingly good, having stepped up from the BSP this season.

On the wings Heath (http://i290.photobucket.com/albums/ll247/bermybhoy/ten%20ton%203rd%20season/final%20update/tonyheath.jpg) (boooooooo) was brilliant, but there's no back up there for him, that's a priority. On the left I signed Mark Perry for a lot of money, but reverted to Derek Burns, who was very effective. The assistant manager reported that the veteran Lien is now past playing at this level, he should be punted if possible.

Forwards - Top performers were loan signings Menechella, who is joining permanently next season, and John Galloway (http://i290.photobucket.com/albums/ll247/bermybhoy/ten%20ton%203rd%20season/final%20update/johngalloway.jpg), who scored more than a goal a game. If he can be re-signed, we'll be deadly. The youngster Jim Miles (http://i290.photobucket.com/albums/ll247/bermybhoy/ten%20ton%203rd%20season/final%20update/jimmiles.jpg) is our most expensive ever signing, but looks worth it already. Possibly better at attacking midfield and likes to score spectacular goals. The new Dunn?

Note to Dava: There's a few transfers been lined up, both in and out - you might want to check that before you go buying anyone. Also, I did sign quite a few youngsters who were left in the reserves, and they absolutely stormed their league, winning it easily and kept racking up massive wins. Might be worth seeing if you fancy anyone there.

If you're curious about any of the big name departures, James Dunn (http://i290.photobucket.com/albums/ll247/bermybhoy/ten%20ton%203rd%20season/final%20update/jamesdunn.jpg) predictably had a great season and was ranked as second best signing of the season. NepentheZ (http://i290.photobucket.com/albums/ll247/bermybhoy/ten%20ton%203rd%20season/final%20update/nepenthez.jpg) also looks good at Championship level, while Robinson (http://i290.photobucket.com/albums/ll247/bermybhoy/ten%20ton%203rd%20season/final%20update/dionrobinson.jpg) was a bit disappointing for Rangers.

On to Dava - good luck with it. I think we have a solid base for the future financially, and a decent team. A couple more good signings and promotion should be achievable.

unlucky bermybhoy. so close to Championship football. however you more than deserve to hold your head high, considering the overhaul you made of the squad. we look to be in a much healthier position than 12 months ago, and everything seems to be looking good for the future (except for those councillors - good to see they're as irritating on the game as they are in real life... :( )

History so far and order of play

Following in the Softies footsteps, the Monkeys have just 'done a dafuge', and lost in the play off final in season 2021/22. The Softies are underway in the same season.

Both are confident of a promotion push, who'll make it to the Championship first?

If anyone else would like to take part, let me know. Newcomers are welcome.

quick links - edit options - change the bottom one to 'enhanced interface'

That should give you all the posting options but the one you want is the hyperlink function. Just highlight the text you want to turn into a link then click the hyperlink button (little globe) and paste in the image link.

Pre-season up date

Firstly because of Bermy's good work last year Wallace was offered a new 2 year contract on £1k per week. here (http://i305.photobucket.com/albums/nn222/davafish/newcontract-1.jpg)

Had a look on the shorlist and picked up some great free's (in my opinion)

Jackson (http://i305.photobucket.com/albums/nn222/davafish/Jackson.jpg) - I think Bermy had already offered him a contract, but he accepted while I was boss so I will take all the credit

Seynhaeve (http://i305.photobucket.com/albums/nn222/davafish/Seynhaeve.jpg) - This guy flashed up he had rejected his contract and I could only see a few stats but was highly rated by my Ass man.

Then done my usual and had a look at the player search screen for pacey players (one decent find for £300k I thinks)

Thomas (http://i305.photobucket.com/albums/nn222/davafish/Thomas.jpg)

Nothing left at my disposal on the domestic scene, so proceeded to look at the cheapest players in the lowely European national squads & U21's (top tip)

Filip (http://i305.photobucket.com/albums/nn222/davafish/Filip.jpg) - looks quality really happy with him, my assistant manager said he was to be signed at all costs, as I think I could only see one stat!

Lukas (http://i305.photobucket.com/albums/nn222/davafish/Lukas.jpg) - I am re-training him as a centre half, looks good but was a little disappointed when I saw his pace stat.

Melinikov (http://i305.photobucket.com/albums/nn222/davafish/Melnikov.jpg) - it was my biggest gamble as the greedy nobody asked for £5k a week, but a quick trial saw he was excellent.

Petrov (http://i305.photobucket.com/albums/nn222/davafish/Petrov.jpg) - Really pleased with his physical stats and the Ass man thought he was a definite signing, great striker (I hope).

Transfer Summary (http://i305.photobucket.com/albums/nn222/davafish/Transfers.jpg)

All in all very pleased with my dealings and definitely think promotion is within reach (I think the odds were 5/2).

Once again I am not happy with my left wingers but they are dying breed, especially with only the english leagues loaded.

By the way I beat Rangers in my first friendly 4-3 at home, so I think we are just about a little better than League 1 standard!

I hope so Frazza, I am just worried I haven't understood the rules, as at least 4 of those players I had no prior knowledge of, scout reports, trials etc(except my Ass man on offer contract option and the Int experience)

To be honest I have a 3 excellent DM/DC which should keep our team solid, as I like to use 3 DC's and two DM/DC to keep the back tight and narrow.

I doubt it, I just know from my own game what a difference being able to sign players from Eastern Europe makes. I had just assumed that the 'scout or trial' rule was in place, perhaps I could have done a little bit more knowing this wasn't the case.

Right - dafuge I think you're right, it should probably be there. Dava, no worries, it's an oversight on my part not to have put it in, not sure how that happened. If I'm missing any other obvious common rules let me know.

Some really good signings there mate - your difficulty might be picking your best team. A LOT of talent up front now - the young guy I bought last season, Jim Miles, will become awesome if you give him some games. I was going to suggest getting the other fella I had on loan, Galloway, but you might not need him - he had an amazing scoring record though.

Not quite LLM rules - personally I don't like their one about not using player searches, so that's not in there - but I guess the rest is indeed pretty faithful to the LLM guidelines.

Same here, I can't stand that rule about player searches, especially since the player search is determined by your scouting knowledge.

Whatever you do, don't go in there and start asking them. They don't like it much. Fwiw it's all to do with realism - apparently it's only realistic to know of a player if your scouts find him, which might be a slight oversimplification, but that's what I read into it.
