You were taking advantage of having a parent club and signing Championship standard players earning £40,000 a week on loan which would never happen in real life.

We've actually signed someone in a fair way so no-one can complain.

I have a feeling the £40k p/w was a result of using fake players, I just don't think it would have happened with a normal game.

If we go down that road I'd be willing to download the save and run it on holiday, ready for elf on Sunday.

Does anyone have any strong feeling on the matter?

I think you should do that, it means elf_30 can then make a start on his new season in the same that everyone else has. He also said he might start later on this afternoon so it would be nice to get the Softies back on the go again.

Ran it on holiday last night to the last game of the League 2 season.

Southern Softies end of season 2014-15 - League 2

With Spc1485 unfortunately unable to finish off the season he'd started, I've run the last 2 months of the season on holiday, using his tactics but letting the assistant pick the team.

The Softies were in 10th after his last game, and in a little bit of poor form that left a play off spot looking unlikely. Over the rest of the season, they showed mixed, very much mid-table form, winning a few, losing a few ulimately leaving the Softies in 11th place.

Results (http://i290.photobucket.com/albums/ll247/bermybhoy/softies/results.jpg)
Table (http://i290.photobucket.com/albums/ll247/bermybhoy/softies/leaguetable.jpg)
Club information (http://i290.photobucket.com/albums/ll247/bermybhoy/softies/overview.jpg)

In terms of playing staff the Softies are looking pretty decent. The media predicted a last place finish, so the performance by this bunch was excellent.

Average ratings (http://i290.photobucket.com/albums/ll247/bermybhoy/softies/squadselection.jpg)
Assistant reports (http://i290.photobucket.com/albums/ll247/bermybhoy/softies/asstreports.jpg)

Top players are of course Blackburn (http://i290.photobucket.com/albums/ll247/bermybhoy/softies/blackburn.jpg) and Driver (http://i290.photobucket.com/albums/ll247/bermybhoy/softies/Driver.jpg). Spc also made an excellent addition, bringing in an experienced league 1 campaigner in the form of 32 year old Russell Lucas (http://i290.photobucket.com/albums/ll247/bermybhoy/softies/Lucas.jpg), whose legs should hold out for another season. From a glance at the squad I would say it's weakest in defence, especially at goalkeeper. There's also a few guys on big money (>£1,000/week) who probably aren't worth it at all. There's also a young Mexican stiker, Martinez, who is being paid well and scored over a goal a game for the reserves, who could probably do a turn next season.

Good luck to elf_30 for next season.

The players that were signed offered minimal improvement to the squad and he somehow manged to get roughly forty points more than me showing how much of a bearing this 'super tactic' had.

I don't why he couldn't of just played properly.

bermybhoy
09-06-2008, 05:12
What are the thoughts on this? NepentheZ in particular because he is down to take over.

I do tend to think we should probably re-do it, as it's completely against the spirit of the whole thing. To be honest I wasn't aware until recently there were any 'game breaking' tactics for this version of the game hence no mention of it in the opening post.

The whole difficulty so far has been taking a team where you might have signed only a handful of the players, and getting them to play a way that you favour that is probably completely different from the last person.

Lesson learned in that people should only really take part if they've been following it and know what's going on.

GazTheDoood

Is there a file from before Frazza's season available, then Nep could do it from there.

Firstly, what tactic did he use? I couldn't spot it personally. Although I was a little bemused as to how he could have such a great season.

Secondly, I'm also under the impression there are no "Diablo" tactics for this version, but I am aware of 4 gaps in the AI that can be exploited. If all four are exploited game after game, I'd assume winning would come easy.

If he did straight up download a tactic, whats the problem? Sure, its against morals, but, theres nothing stated in the OP, and its not an actual "cheat" since, the tactic is within the boundaries of the game.

I'll check back to see what he actually used, and let you guys know what I think

It's a downloaded tactic from the Forum.

I know its not against the rules, but he should have used his own tactic, as this one clearly gave him an unfair advantage.

NepentheZ
09-06-2008, 06:18
Which tactic?

Frazza actually says, in regards to bermybhoys question that he's using my tactic, since "it was there". Don't know how thats possible, as aab and bermy both played a season after me (IIRC) - And I don't leave my tactic there for other, to encourage them to build there own.

One thing I did notice, is how good Dunn was. He's far, far too good for a player in that division, and I don't remember his attributes being that good when I had him in my season :/

bermybhoy
09-06-2008, 06:41
Nep, here is a discussion about that tactic (http://community.sigames.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/521102691/m/8822059304). Seems to be that it gives a pretty big advantage.

Regarding Dunn, he's young and has been improving. This (http://i290.photobucket.com/albums/ll247/bermybhoy/ten%20ton%20year%20end/dunn.jpg) was him 4 years ago. Paul Hartman also had a screenshot of him from 2014 but seems to have deleted it. I don't think that's suspicious tbh, you could compare though.

I agree with Frazza. He hasn't technically done anything wrong, as there was nothing specified at the start. Downloading a tactic, at any level, I also don't see as cheating, or wrong. (otherwise, whats the point of having the tactics forum to even discuss your winning tactics?)

Dunn is a 50 goal a season kinda guy too. After looking at the 2012 view of him, he's actually a lot better than I gave credit for, (and possibly didn't utilise him enough in my season)

Personally, his season stands. But I'm not the sole factor in deciding this, so I'll leave it up to you guys http://community.sigames.com/customicons/icon14.gif

bermybhoy

I hate the idea of using downloaded tactics for this. In large part it's because I've really struggled with FM08 at times by virtue of always trying to figure out my own. Equally though, I can also see that some people have no issue with it whatsoever and more to the point, I never said at the outset not to do it. Frazza, sorry if the criticism has been overly harsh, the situation just wasn't expected.

From now on though, I think the rule has to be that you use your own tactic. Otherwise we could all have used this Kimz thing and been in the Premier league by now.

So all that said, I think Nep should carry on from where we are.

dafuge
09-06-2008, 10:18
I think people who have come from a 'challenges' background would have considered using a downloaded 'cheat' tactic a big no-no, especially in a community based story like this one. Saying that, since there was nothing in the rules about it you can understand why someone might think it is ok to do so and can't really discount the season. Perhaps an adjustment to the rules could be made so it doesn't happen again?

I think the updates were pretty poor though, 'We won the F.A Trophy' as a single post says it all. bermybhoy managed to post more screenshots when he holidayed the softies for just two months, something seemed a bit suspicious with the lack of effort going into them.

dafuge
09-06-2008, 10:19
bermybhoy, if you want to rewrite the opening post in the light of recent events feel free to post it in the mod requests thread and I'll replace the old one.

aaberdeenn
09-06-2008, 10:21
The reason the use of downloaded tactics wasn't mentioned in the opening post I'd say is because you wouldn't expect to come across someone using one of these tactics.

Sure in theory there's nothing wrong with using them but this game was just about members of this forum pitting it's managerial skills against each other in trying our best to take our respective teams to the top. This just removes the whole point of the game.

I don't see what the issue with Dunn is though as he's now scored over 50 goals in each of the two seasons before this so there hasn't been any advantage gained in that respect, just for the team as a whole.

Using a downloaded tactic has meant that we've done better than we should of. Why do you think no other challenges allow the use of these tactics.

I think that the season should be voided and re-done as I don't want a quick way to the top. It'd be nice to do it 'properly' so to speak and feel proud once/if we manage to get to the top.

bermybhoy
09-06-2008, 10:39
Dafuge, will do. Your point about the reporting is also valid. I think there is a statement in there somewhere requesting updates a couple of times a season, it would be nice to get back to that, and seeing plenty of screenshots etc. I appreciate not everyone has/is willing to (I guess mostly the latter) spend the time on it but it would be nice to think you could flick back through this and start to get a feel for the history. If you know what I mean.

aaberdeenn, I understand the frustration, but without doubt the promotion wasn't far away. It probably did need a couple more players, but that serves to make next season all the more challenging.

Incidently, Dunn is a non-issue. I was very, very lucky to find him and be able to sign him, and since then he has improved greatly and has added the club to his favourites, so doesn't want to leave. Sure, he's better than we should have, but there is a logic behind it.

aaberdeenn

Sorry about using a downloaded tactic but I just can't make a tactic myself.

NepentheZ
09-06-2008, 10:54
Dafuge - I do see using a downloaded tactic as a no-no, if it were in yours or Gundo's challenge, or the likes of them. In this case however, Frazza chose to use a downloaded tactic, (I'm assuming it was Kimz) - and I don't see a problem with it. Frazza could always re-do his season, based on his own tactic, and peraps provide screenshots throughout, (which I didn't even notice he didn't, but on that note, its a good point.) If the rules are changed in the OP, that would be great, and save confusion for future attempts.

I'd just like to state, that I didn't, and never have used a downloaded tactic, but when building my own tactic, I do spend a lot of time reading the T&TT forum, for new techniques and ideas, and often stumble upon some "exploits" (Of which the only one I "use" is the corner cheat, because I refuse to change something I built into a tactic in FM06, due to the incompetence in the FM08 ME)

Frazza - After reading Daf's post, I do find it very peculiar that you've failed to provide a single screen shot for anything. Why is this the case? Even a slow computer can upload a screeny in about 30 seconds, So I don't see what the problem is.

Also, I didn't even realise we'd won a trophy, or that you did the EOS Update, due to your lack of creativity in the updates. Its not good.

To put it bluntly, the more I find out about Frazza, the less I like about how he's gone about completing his season. for future players, we need to be sure that they appreciate the importance of this thread to those that are heavily involved.

I now have no problems with the season being scrapped, re-done, or if we just move forward and carry on. I say we have a vote. http://community.sigames.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Now you're just confusing matters http://community.sigames.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

I'm willing to guess Frazza won't want to re-do it. Therefore it would largely be up to you whether you want to start from the most recent point, or from the season before. I think we've established that opinion is pretty much split on whether it should count. Any other opinions welcome, but basically, I'll let it be your judgement call.

PaulHartman71
09-06-2008, 11:15
I'm not sure, I'd be against it if we weren't promoted, but I agree with the lack of screenshots being a bit off.

I'm against it though tbh, allowing it to pass once, would just encourage others to do it in the future.

Robert_296
10-06-2008, 08:44
So what's happening then?

bermybhoy

Good question. Basically I think we have established that using an downloaded tactic was not against the rules as they stood, though clearly against the spirit. Therefore I've left it up to Nep to make a judgement call on whether he wants to replay that season, on carry on from where we are.

In terms of the Softies, if elf_30 pops back in soon hopefully he can get to work on their next season.

I have also asked Dafuge to update the rules in the second post.

Essentially what I've done is try to make things a bit clearer for everyone, therefore downloaded tactics are banned, I've clarified rules on making Bosman signings, and so on.

Also, I've changed the wording regarding doing updates...I think it's in the interests of the thread to encourage everyone to update frequently and in a bit more details that we sometimes get, given that this is of reasonably wide interest. It's one season at a time so it's hopefully not too much to ask, most of the contributors to the various challenges do it in a lot of detail already anyway.

Finally, I've taken a hint from some of the sign ups and asked anyone who wants to take part to quote something from that post just check they read the rules...

Forgot to add here, Nep made a suggestion previously that didn't take off regarding nicknaming of players. I liked it though, so have added it to the rules. Basically, if you want to name a player who you have just signed or who came through the youth set up, you can do so.

Thanks for the changes dafuge.

Just spotted this. I think everyone has voiced an opinion or two already.

But, a vote it is.

So to everyone:

In view of the last season being done using a downloaded and evidently very useful tactic (which wasn't specifically against the rules):

should it be replayed?
or, should we carry on?

Hey all,

Sorry I havent been on in the past few days, I will be withdrawing from this game for a while. I have gotten a bit sicker and some personal things, broke up with my gf, have made it a bit harder for me to get on here and play, havent touched FM for almost two weeks now and just dont feel the need right now.

I will be stopping by from time to time and may want back in later, but for now, sorry for any inconvience I have caused. It has been fun.

See ya around

Cheers for finsihing my season off bermy and doing the end of season review, shame we couldnt get in the playoffs but i would have taken 11th at the start of the season.

Seems to have been have a been a bit of controvesy recently with the old formation debate. Happy to go with what everyone thinks on this although i personally dont think it should stand as picking your formation is the main part of the game for me.

Good luck with the softies next season Robert, if youu can get a good gk and pair of centre backs you should be ok for a good season. Lucas and blackburn are quality up front although lucas is getting on so may need the odd rest throughout the season.

As far as the voting goes, looking back at past comments (not sure anyone else will respond):
jackyb1989 - replay
Spc1485 - replay
PaulHartman71 - replay
NepentheZ - replay (I think?!)
aaberdeenn - replay

Well, IMO, you have.

Why you couldn't of just used your own tactic or asked for advice in here is beyond me.
It's a tactic that clearly exploits weaknesses in the match engine, as it gave you a huge advantage over the previous without you actually bringing in much more quality.

I don't think its hating on you dood, its just, you've JUST said you're an "Independant Person" - yet you've used someone else's tactics, how's that independent?

You were very basic in your reports, and didn't generally follow what everyone else had set as an example in terms of updates and end of season information.

I still don't think what you did regarding the tactics was "wrong", mind.

After all sorts of dramas and controversies, both sides are about to embark on their 9th seasons. The Monkeys are still in the BSP, while the Softies are looking to improve on last season's impressive 11th place finish in League 2. Good luck to NepentheZ and Robert_296.

Incidently, I've sneaked newcomer jackyb1989 in before PaulHartman71, but his position doesn't change from 11th. Helps mix things up a bit. I'll go after both you guys. I hope that's ok.

I will hold my hand up for that one Robert although I felt it was needed to make sure relegation wasnt on the cards. Shouldnt be a problem as you will be able to increase your budget when you get the chance in june and im sure there are players you can release or sell on.

I brought in martinez as a reserve striker as i thought he would improve but he got an injury early on and never really got a chance, he was prolific for the reserves so might be worth a try when lucas's legs give in.

Whilst i was at the club i pre signed a New Zealander youth player, has he arrived yet as he looked pretty decent from his limited stats?

Ten Ton FC - Update

Ok, so I've not done more than a week in the game yet, so theres not THAT much to update. Just some general inquiries on transfers.

I'm looking to spend almost all of the budget, to strengthen the squad for a promotion push, and have the following deals lined up, so long as the group are happy....

Scott Smith DC/DM (http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a385/NepentheZ/TenTon/Transfers/Season%203/ScottSmith.jpg)

£50,000 upfront
£180,000 over 24 months
50% of next fee.

In my opinion, smith would instantly be among the best in the squad, and can play both Centerback and Center Mid. I think for a player of his age, his mental stats are fantastic, and his Technical attributes are more than average for the league we are in. I personally think he'd be an asset to the squad.

Dale Russel AM C (http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a385/NepentheZ/TenTon/Transfers/Season%203/DaleRussel.jpg)

£26,000 Upfront
£75,000 over 24 months

Another who could have massive potential at this club. Great technical ability, and would better quit a regular MC role, over the AM C role.

- So basically just wanting some thoughts here. I'd really, really like to get Scott Smith, and opposition of this would be ludicrous. Dale Russel isn't a "must have" - but could play a great role in the squad, although I understand his fee is rather large for a player of his ability.

bermybhoy
11-06-2008, 18:28
Both look good to me. Smith in particular could be fantastic. Russell could potentially be retrained as a defensive midfielder.

Big fees mind you - might be stupid to ask, but I assume you've negotiated them down as far as you can? Perhaps reduce the sell on (sometimes it just the principal of a sell on clause they're after).

Oher than that, I have no issues.

NepentheZ
11-06-2008, 18:41
canceled the Russel transfer, as after much inspection, and 2 free signings, I felt that area of the team was complete enough, and £100,000 was a lot of money for him.

I negotiated a lot for Smith.

I offered £80,000 initially, (He was valued at £22,000) - and thought that would be more than acceptable.

Billericay then asked for £250,000 up front. I offered £80,000 + 35% fee. They wanted £230,000 upfront. We went back and forward for a while, and they eventually asked for something like £50,000 upfront + £210,000 over 24 months + 50%.

I offered what I did, and their board accepted the offer. My first actual negotiation in FM \o/

After getting the scout report back for Smith, he feels -

CA = 7*
PA = 7*

"Lee believes Smith would be a good signing for most Coca-Cola Championship sides"

I thought the fact he and my other 2 scouts agree on that comment, Smith can only move on to greater things, with or without Ten Ton. So the 50% sell on may seem hasty now, but if sold for £1,000,000 +, it would easily recoup the original outlay, plus more. And I never ever ever sell any player without some sort of sell on fee. So if he makes an even bigger money move, we'd reap the benefits.

Francis (http://i117.photobucket.com/albums/o46/robert_29694/PaulFrancis.jpg)

Out of those four signings of which all were on frees I think my favourite is David Howell, who was loaned in last year and I jumped at the chance of signing him on a free. I was also glad to sign Francis as I think he can be my number one this season.

Pre-Season

I am pretty pleased with my pre-season as I was all but 3 games. I lost ot Lyon 5-1 but I had just been getting peoples fitness ready when it was 2-1 so I was delighted about how we had done. I drew wih Heybridge 3-3 and Chester 1-1 and in my 3 wins I conceded no goals and scored 16 goals.

I'll do a mid season update and an end of season update rather than monthly updates.

Ten Ton FC - Update

Ok, so after a LONG period of assessing the squad, developing a new tactic and setting up my training, I finally managed to hit "continue" last night and start pulling off some of those transfers. As usual, I spent a lot of time looking at players from all over the place, and even hired a new scout (better ability than the current scouts), to add to the two we already have, giving us a very balanced scouting team.

Transfers

Ben Matthews GK (http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a385/NepentheZ/TenTon/Season%203/Transfers/BenMatthews.jpg)
Coach Report (http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a385/NepentheZ/TenTon/Season%203/Transfers/BenMatthewsCR.jpg)
Initially signed as back up, but could end up making a claim for a first team spot. Only the 1 goalkeeper when I took over the team (cook) - so could prove vital in our push for promotion

Lloyd Joynes AM LC / FC (http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a385/NepentheZ/TenTon/Season%203/Transfers/LloydJoynes.jpg)
Coach Report (http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a385/NepentheZ/TenTon/Season%203/Transfers/LloydJoynesCR.jpg)

A little different to the scout reports, but Joynes has massive potential. Very young, and signed on a free transfer to bolster the some what shoddy left side of midfield. Would have had a lot of first team football this season, if it wasn't for the loan signing of out-of-favor Aston Villa AML James Easton

James Easton - Joined on loan from Villa until the end of the season, and he's exactly what we've been missing on the left side of midfield. When he joined on loan, he was delighted and "hinted at making the deal permanent", which would be a great asset to the squad, and further fill Ten Ton's group of stars in the BSP.

Scott Smith (http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a385/NepentheZ/TenTon/Season%203/Transfers/ScottSmithPro-1.jpg)
Coach Report (http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a385/NepentheZ/TenTon/Season%203/Transfers/ScottSmithCR.jpg)

Arguably the best player at the club, this guy should sure up our lacking defense instantly. A fantastic acquisition for Ten Ton.

Nathan Taylor - Coach Report (http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a385/NepentheZ/TenTon/Season%203/Transfers/NathanTaylorCR.jpg)
(can't find his profile screenie http://community.sigames.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_frown.gif - Will add it in later)

A great player, with fantastic mental and technical ability, the 22 year old Left and Central midfielder will prove a massive hit at the club.

Pre-Season

A very good pre season for Ten Ton FC, Winning all 5 friendlies, including a rather impressive 3-2 scalp of League 1 outfit Bournemouth. James Dunn was his impressive self during the pre season games, scoring 6 goals in the 5 games.

Results

<pre class="ip-ubbcode-code-pre">
Kendal 0 : 2 Ten Ton FC
Eastleigh 2 : 3 Ten Ton FC
Ten Ton FC 3 : 2 Bournemouth
Bracknell 0 : 4 Ten Ton FC
Mossley 1 : 3 Ten Ton FC</pre>

Some very promising results there.

Season Opening

Now 3 games into the season, and Ten Ton FC sit 10th in the BSP, with what was a very promising, yet ultimately disappointing trio of games.

Game 1<pre class="ip-ubbcode-code-pre">

Darlington 4 - 3 Ten Ton FC

Barrett (40, 67, 69) Dunn (12)
MacFarlane (84) Mulholland (30)
Scannell (50)</pre>

After taking a 2-0 lead, and a 3-1 lead, I really felt that the game was sewn up, only for Barrett to fire a double inside 3 minutes to level the game up, and MacFarlane to wrap up the game for Darlington late on. A game that saw all 7 shots on target hit the back of the net.

Game 2

<pre class="ip-ubbcode-code-pre">Ten Ton FC 3 - 0 Histon
Dunn (7,19)
Roche (17)</pre>

3 goals up inside 20 minutes, and a rout looked on the cards. However, despite pressing for the rest of the game, and hitting the woodwork a few times, the 3-0 scoreline could not be added to, and the game petered out. Dunn scoring 2 more taking his league tally to 3 in the 2 games.

Game 3

<pre class="ip-ubbcode-code-pre">Ten Ton FC 1 - 1 Wrexham
Bannon (37) Lowe (90+4)</pre>

After 2 games, Wrexham were sat atop the BSP. But on todays performance, you'd never believe it. Totally out classed, and outplayed by Ten Ton, and snatched a smash and grab equalizer in the dying seconds of the match, coming from a Ten Ton FC Corner..!!

So only 4 points form the 3 games thus far, but could have been much more. Still sat in 10th, only 4 points behind the leaders, and 2 points behind everyone else. A long season ahead, but if the boys keep up this forum, theres every possibility of finishing in the top 5

Ten Ton FC - Update

3 more games have passed, and despite Ten Ton's average position in the league, things are going very well.

Match Day 4

<pre class="ip-ubbcode-code-pre">
Kettering 1 - 5 Ten Ton FC

Charlton (51) Dunn (22,34,46)
Smith (31,63)</pre>

New boy smith scores his first goals for the club, and hot shot James Dunn scores an impressive hat-trick against Kettering, who were sat atop the table prior to kick off. Overly impressed with the teams performance.

Match Day 5

<pre class="ip-ubbcode-code-pre">
Ten Ton FC 4 - 1 Crawley

Dunn (16,35,64) Sherwood (68)
McDonald (31)</pre>

A second consecutive hat-trick for Dunn, and another fantastic scalp of a decent team. Crawley were in the top 5 prior to kick off, and demolishing them saw Ten Ton rise to 2nd in the table after just five games.

Match Day 6
<pre class="ip-ubbcode-code-pre">
Cheltenham 2 - 2 Ten Ton FC
Child (6) Marsh (50)
Oates (70) Dunn (64)</pre>

Dunn scores yet again, taking his league tally to Ten in 6 games - but ultimately it was a disappointing result. Cheltenham managed to walk away with a point, with 13 shots (7 on target) compared to Ten Ton's 21 shots (only 4 on target). Had the midfielders been a little more potent, we could have been seeing a much wider margin here, and 3 more points, but it wasn't to be.

Top Scorers

Ten Ton

<pre class="ip-ubbcode-code-pre">James Dunn - 10 Goals
Scott Smith - 2 Goals
NepentheZ (Mulholland) - 1 Goal
5 other players - 1 Goal</pre>

BSP

<pre class="ip-ubbcode-code-pre">James Dunn - 10 Goals (Ten Ton FC)
Krystian Charlton - 9 Goals (Kettering)
Dominic Curran - 8 Goals (Torquay)
Darren Barrett - 7 Goals (Darlington)
Aaron Marshall - 6 Goals (Kettering)</pre>

So Dunn leads the pack in the way of goals in the division, and even earned himself Goal of the Month - Runner Up "Showing his class, by scoring a curling shot"

In other news, the finances are down £91,000 so far this season, but largely due to the impeccable capture of Smith, who the board believe will become a great player for the club.

BSP - Table caption

<pre class="ip-ubbcode-code-pre">

15th TEN TON FC 6 11
16th Cheltenham 8 11
17th Billericay 8 9

24th Whitby 7 0</pre>

As you can see by the table there, although we're down in 15th, with two games in hand, just one win will propel the club back into the top bracket of the table.

With Dunn being that good, we're gonna need to be very lucky to keep him.

Personally, I think we're only a few good bids away from him leaving, probably via the chairman accepting one of them.

As a 16 year old he looked great but didn't really improve that much in the year I had him.

Mid Season Report

August started off well with a 2-1 win over Hartlepool coming back from 1-0 down. We then lost 4-2 to Southampton in the league cup first round which I was expecting but we played well in it. Next was a bore draw with Hereford where we were more likely to win it. And then a thriller where we were 3-0 down at halftime and in the style of Liverpool against Milan in 2005 (http://community.sigames.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_razz.gif) we got back to 3-3 only to find Stockport take the lead again but Lucas scored a last minute screamer to get us a point.

September started with an unlucky finish to the first game as we were playing well for the draw against Luton when they scored deep into injury time. We then got knocked out of the Johnstone's Paint trophy in the first round to Crystal Palace where we lost 3-1. We lost for the third time this month to Port Vale in a close 3-2 encounter where we were the better team. We then convincingly won against Woking 3-0 with a brace from new signing David Howell. I then beat Northampton in a game where we were the underdogs where Driver and Hunter scored the goals. Hunter then scored his second goal in two games as we beat MK Dons 2-1 putting us in the playoff places.

For most of the game against Tranmere we were ahead and they scored a late goal to beat us, morale was very high after the last few games and we were around the playoff places. We then played Yeovil and lost in a resounding 2-0 defeat which I will want to forget quickly. We then lost in a fairly even game against Stevenage 1-0 after their goal in the 50th minute. Next was Walsall where Howell scored to give us the lead but then he got a dubious red card and they scored two goals in quick succession only for us to equalise from the penalty spot to draw 2-2. We then beat Oldham 2--1 with two late goals from Russell Lucas and Jon Williams. In the penultimate game of the month we beat York 1-0 with a Steve Wright goal. To end the month we drew with Bournemouth after coming back from being 2-0 down after 36 minutes.

Our 4 game unbeaten run came to an end in the first game of November where we lost 1-0 to Shrewsbury. After that we drew with Macclesfield which I am pleased with as I expected to lose. In the FA Cup 1st round we had drawn Stevenage away and I knew it would be a tough tie as we had already lost ot them in the league but I was confident we wold be able to get through, but the result was the same as the league match where we lost 1-0, but on the bright side we can concentrate on the league. We then destroyed Billericay 3-0 with Howell scoring two and Driver scoring the other. We finished the month in a bad way with Rushdenscoring the only goal of the game in the 18th minute.

A very bad month started with a 2-0 loss to Barnet where they scored twice both from the penalty spot. One of the penalty decisions I thought was very dubious so I complained and I got a touchline ban, the team missed me as they lost 7-1 to Bristol Rovers at home with it being 6-0 at halftime. It didn't get any better as we then lost ot Carlisle 3-1 and Gillingham 2-1.

After 23 games the League Table (http://i117.photobucket.com/albums/o46/robert_29694/SoftiesTable.jpg) looks like this

THe Squad (http://i117.photobucket.com/albums/o46/robert_29694/SoftiesSquad.jpg) looks like this

The two best players have been David Howell (http://i117.photobucket.com/albums/o46/robert_29694/DavidHowell-1.jpg) and Jermaine Blackburn (http://i117.photobucket.com/albums/o46/robert_29694/Blackburn.jpg)

After the Gillingham game Danny Roberts gave an interview:

Roberts: Hello and welcome, who wants to ask first?

Reporter 1: You have been in charge of Legends FC for 8 and a half season. You were a very succesful footballer but did you think you could ever have achieved this when you first walked through the doors at the Softies stadium?

Roberts: Well, as I player I was always confident in my ability and as a manager I am no different. I always knew that if I stayed here for a while I could achieve great things with this club as we are now in our second season in league football ever. But I am not going to rest here, it may seem my aims are very much out of reach but my aim is to take this club up to the premiership and win both the premiership and the Champions league.

Reporter 2: After your brilliance challenging for a playoff spot last season and finishing 11th in the end, what are your aims for the rest of the season?

Roberts: Well we are 19th in the league at the moment but still 11 points above the relegation spots so my aim is to get as far away from the bottom of the table as possible ready to build for next season.

Reporter 3: After you reached the 5th round of the FA cup last season, how dissapointed were you when you got knocked out in the first round to your league rivals Stevenage?

Roberts: We weren't very dissapointed to be honest, a good cup run would have just been a bonus for us as we are really concentrating on the league to get a good mid table finish. Thank you for coming but that is al for now.

Also this isn't really related to our season so far but has anyone ever seen a pitch snowier than this (http://i117.photobucket.com/albums/o46/robert_29694/snowypitch.jpg)?

Excellent Nep. Reports are brilliant.

I think it is going to urn into a successful season. As long as morale stays high, the quality is there by the bucketload to take us up.

Astonished as how good Dunn is. Go me for spotting him. I just checked back at an old save, 2012 the scouts rated him as good enough for a League 1 side, but unlikely to get better. Fools...

Ten Ton FC - Update

10 games into the campaign now, and things are still looking pretty good for Ten Ton FC

Match Day 7
<pre class="ip-ubbcode-code-pre">
Ten Ton FC 3 - 2 Weymouth

Smith (17,22) Davidson (39)
Dunn (52) Hewitt (69)</pre>

A fantastic victory against a club we've only ever beaten once before in many games. New boy smith adds to his goal tally and Dunn keeps up his impressive goal to game ratio.

Match Day 8
<pre class="ip-ubbcode-code-pre">
Ten Ton FC 5 - 2 Billericay
Smith (26,65) Moore (20,70)
Dunn (78,84,86)</pre>

Another superb performance, with Dunn capturing his 3rd hat trick so far this season, so early on. The game looked to have gone, when Billericay nicked an equalizer in the 70th minute, at which point I was cursing due to Dunn actually missing 4 guilt edge chances earlier in the game, finding myself saying...

"Dunn could've had a Hat-Trick this game"

... and then he did.

Match Day 9
<pre class="ip-ubbcode-code-pre">
Whitby 1 - 2 Ten Ton FC
Vernon (78) NepentheZ (p17,p89)</pre>

Another game dominated by Ten Ton, despite yet again almost throwing away the 3 points. Saved by a very "dubious" 89th minute penalty, which NepentheZ (Mulholland) calmly dispatched, giving Ten Ton a vital win against bottom club Whitby, giving them a 7 game unbeaten run.

Match Day 10
<pre class="ip-ubbcode-code-pre">
Hereford 2 - 1 Ten Ton FC
Winter (41,83) Bannon (10)</pre>

The first game this season we we're actually outclassed in, and Hereford stole a deserved win late on. I felt a bit gutted, as it was another late goal undoing Ten Ton, and despite Bannon's rocket of a goal, we couldn't pull off another victory.

Top Scorers

Ten Ton
<pre class="ip-ubbcode-code-pre">
James Dunn - 14 Goals
Scott Smith - 6 Goals
NepentheZ - 3 Goals
Ross Bannon - 2 Goals
4 Players - 1 Goal</pre>

BSP Scorers
<pre class="ip-ubbcode-code-pre">
James Dunn - 14 Goals (Ten Ton FC)
Dominic Curran - 12 Goals (Torquay)
Krystian Charlton - 11 Goals (Kettering)
Ken Walker - 10 Goals (Cheltenham)
Earl Neville - 9 Goals (Crawley)</pre>

Dunn still leading the pack comfortably by the way of goals, helped massively by his 3 hat-tricks. Ten Ton also have a game in hand over all the rivals.

BSP - Table Caption

24th Whitby 11 0</pre>

Very close at the top of the table, and a few wins could see Ten Ton hit the Top of the Table.

Hi Guys,

I have read the entire thread with great interest, I have never seen an idea like it and it seems to have re-ignited my want to play FM08.

I would love the chance to play with the Monkey's (as I am from the NE) but have no qualms of giving the Softies a shot.

Are you permitted to use the 'player search' facility and filter?

Can you play a few games on 'holiday'? as for some reason I find once I have my tactics and my team choice set, my assistant manager often gets better results than me, I must have a 1 stat for motivation!

Excellent. Glad you want to take part. Will add you to the Monkeys list.

As for holidaying, personally it's something I never do, but if you waned to go down that route I don't see a huge issue with. On the assumption you're talking about the odd game here and there, and not holidaying a whole season, that would be somewhat pointless http://community.sigames.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Ten Ton FC - Update

So, 10 more league games in, and things have started to take a turn for the worse.

BSP Games

Match Day 11

<pre class="ip-ubbcode-code-pre">
Macclesfield 1 - 1 Ten Ton FC
Sturgess (72) NepentheZ (45)
Reeves S/O (81)</pre>

So not a great result, but away from home, and with ten men for 10 minutes I feel its not too bad.

Match Day 12
<pre class="ip-ubbcode-code-pre">
Ten Ton FC 2 - 2 Cambridge
Easton (2) Morris (12)
Dunn (61) Glover (87)
Gray S/O (90)</pre>

Another red card. Again, late on so didn't have too much of an impact on the match, but still not good as its first teamers getting suspensions they shouldn't be. A late steal from cambridge in a match that Ten Ton dominated.

Match Day 13
<pre class="ip-ubbcode-code-pre">
Ten Ton FC 2 - 3 MK Dons
Dunn (30,75) Ball (9)
NepentheZ (INJ) Kay (23)
(1 Week) Hancox (41)</pre>

4 Games now without a win, and title challenge is slipping away. Now finding ourselves lower mid-table, but with a few games in hand.

Match Day 14
<pre class="ip-ubbcode-code-pre">
Droylsden 2 - 1 Ten Ton FC
Harper (55) NepentheZ (48)
Cartwright (87) Dunn INJ (83) 1 Week</pre>

Now 5 games without a win, and a loss to a lowly side. Poor showing here from ten ton, with Injuries and suspensions hampering the squad. Dunn gets injured for 7-10 days, but it'll be 2-3 weeks before his back on top form.

Match Day 15
<pre class="ip-ubbcode-code-pre">
Ten Ton FC 3 - 2 Ebbsfleet
Bannon (39) Bell (57)
NepentheZ (48) Scannell o/g (75)
Reeves (72)
Easton INJ (2-3 weeks)
Bannon INJ (1-2 Months)</pre>

Yet more injuries, and it seems the gods are conspiring against us in a bid for promotion. Despite the win, the injuries really rocked the club, as Bannon was the perfect replacement for Dunn's absence. Controlled the game, and despite the scoreline won it comfortably. Loan Signing James Easton, who has been forceful on the left wing is also injured.

Match Day 16
<pre class="ip-ubbcode-code-pre">
Rochdale 1 - 0 Ten Ton FC
Courtney (6)</pre>

A game with little incident. It literally flew by with only about 4 "highlights" (something I've never seen before..!! )) A loss, but 4th place Rochdale were in good form, and Ten Ton far from it.

Match Day 17
<pre class="ip-ubbcode-code-pre">
Ten Ton FC 2 - 5 Forest Green
Smith (7) Holland (2,14,22,58)
NepentheZ (p55) Burns (60)</pre>

completely humiliated in this game. despite the stats showing it as even, we were completely outplayed.

Match Day 18
<pre class="ip-ubbcode-code-pre">
Dag & Red 2 - 4 Ten Ton FC
Bennett (19) Smith (2)
Deeney (49) Thorne o/g (51)
Marsh (85,90)</pre>

At last, our class is shining through again. A deserved win, Smith really excelling in his attacking midfield role, and Marsh filling the void left by Dunn and Bannon.

Match Day 19
<pre class="ip-ubbcode-code-pre">
Ten Ton FC 2 - 1 Halifax
NepentheZ (p60) Norton (11)
Dunn (84)</pre>

2 wins on the trot now, and starting to climb back up the league. Dunn wasn't performing to his best, so with 10 minutes to go, I switched him with the other ST and he scored almost instantly. A deserved win against a poor halifax outfit.

Match Day 20
<pre class="ip-ubbcode-code-pre">
Torquay 3 - 2 Ten Ton FC
Kelly (10,45) Dunn (65)
McKinnon (42) Smith (88)</pre>

Dunn returning to form, but this was the poorest first half of football I've ever seen from Ten Ton. 3-0 down at HT, and some harsh words at half time kicked the team into shape, and within 10 minutes of the second half, we had 2 dissallowed goals..!! we scored 2 goals, 1 being late on, and was unlucky yet again to have a goal disallowed in the 3rd minute of injury time, which would have salvaged a point.

F.A Cup Matches

F.A Cup 4th Rnd Qual.
<pre class="ip-ubbcode-code-pre">
Ten Ton FC 1 - 1 Worcester
Marsh (37) Furlong (3)</pre>

Marsh still playing in place of Bannon, and scored a cracker of an equilizer. A game that should have been straight forward against non league Worcester, but they made it difficult infront of the Ten Ton crowd.

F.A Cup 4th Rnd Qual. Rep
<pre class="ip-ubbcode-code-pre">
Worcester 0 - 3 Ten Ton FC
NepentheZ (41)
Smith (60)
Marsh (68)</pre>
A better performance against a team not worthy of Ten Ton. NepentheZ is really chipping in with goals from the right wing, and Marsh is holding his own up front.

F.A. Cup Rnd 1
<pre class="ip-ubbcode-code-pre">
Walsall 3 - 1 Ten Ton FC
Duffy (p2) Dunn (15)
Wilkingson (41)
Warren (53)</pre>

Despite the scorline, We held our own against this team. Dunn scoring a nice goal, but unfortunately it wasn't to be our day.

Top Scorers

Ten Ton FC
<pre class="ip-ubbcode-code-pre">
James Dunn - 20 Goals
Scott Smith - 10 Goals
NepentheZ - 9 Goals
Jeff Marsh - 5 Goals
Ross Bannon - 3 Goals</pre>

Krystian Charlton - 20 Goals (Kettering)
James Dunn - 19 Goals (TEN TON FC)
Steve Kay - 18 Goals (MK Dons)
Dave Sturgess - 15 Goals (Macclesfield)</pre>

So Dunn's injury wasn't the best in terms of him scoring, but he only missed out on a few games, and will be raring to go for the rest of the campaign. Still has 19 league goals in 18 league appearances, so I can't really complain too much.

BSP - Table Caption

11th Cheltenham 22 32
12th TEN TON FC 20 31

24th Whitby 21 6</pre>

So WHITBY finally get off the board after 14 long games, but Ten Ton couldn't be further away from where they need to be. Winning the 2 games in hand would see them just a point off the Play off spots, but thats not really good enough for a team with this quality.

Match Day 21
<pre class="ip-ubbcode-code-pre">
Ten Ton FC 3 - 1 Burton
Taylor (41) Doherty (71)

So back on winning form, and moving up the table nicely. Dispatched lowly Burton with relative ease.

Match Day 22
<pre class="ip-ubbcode-code-pre">
Braintree 1 - 3 Ten Ton FC
Williams (69) Dunn (12,40)
NepentheZ (62)</pre>

Another lower team, another 3-1 win, another brace from Dunn, and things are looking good. With 1 game in hand, we now find ourselves back in with a serious shout of Play Off hope.

Match Day 23
<pre class="ip-ubbcode-code-pre">
Ten Ton FC 3 - 4 Darlington
Smith (3) Sheridan (6,87)
Dunn (13,90) Barrett (26,49)</pre>

3 more Ten Ton goals, and a third consecutive brace from dunn wasn't enough to see off a rampant Darlington. Despite holding an early 2-0 lead, Darlington fought back, and took hold of the game in the second half. A late Ben Sheridan goal finished off the game, despite Dunn pulling one back in Injury Time. (BTW - Ben Sheridan was formerly a Ten Ton FC player, On loan from Prem outfit Leicester.)

Half Time Reports.....

So, the first half of the season has had its ups and downs, but over all, I'm a little disappointed with the teams performance. I really feel we should be 6-10 points better off than where we are, and Automatic Promotion should have been a realistic target for the club. Play Offs now looks like the only chance here.

Squad Stats (http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a385/NepentheZ/TenTon/Season%203/Half%20Way%20point/SelectionScreen.jpg)

Top 3 players

James Dunn (http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a385/NepentheZ/TenTon/Season%203/Half%20Way%20point/JamesDunn.jpg) - by far the best player in the squad, and often carries us through games.

David "NepentheZ" Mulholland (http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a385/NepentheZ/TenTon/Season%203/Half%20Way%20point/NepentheZ.jpg) - another superb player, and also another that the coaches feel could play for a Premiership club. (1 of 3 players)

Scott Smith (http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a385/NepentheZ/TenTon/Season%203/Half%20Way%20point/ScottSmith.jpg) - Spent some time at center half, but mostly plays in the center of midfield. A great player, a fanstastic find for us this season.

Match Day 24
<pre class="ip-ubbcode-code-pre">
Ten Ton FC 0 - 2 Dorchester
Davis (81)
Mortimer (90)</pre>

An embarrassing defeat to the hands (and feet) of Dorchester. The game literally flew by, with no highlights until the 75th minute, which was a corner. Dorchester, although winning 2-0 were hardly worth the win, stealing 2 lucky goals in the final 10 minutes of the match.

This result really puts pressure on Ten Ton FC to put a run together now to get themselves back up in the play off area, but after 24 games played, currently sit 7 points away from where they ideally need to be.

(Again, sorry for this taking so long. Don't get to play much recently - but am working through it. Hopefully I'm not holding up proceedings too much)

No worries.

Another good update, shame the news isn't better http://community.sigames.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_frown.gif

We still seem to be shipping a lot of goals, seems to be the problem everyone's had. Doesn't help the defence, but I see the Turkish guy hasn't played much, is it worth sticking him on the right and NepentheZ/Mulholland through the middle?

NepentheZ
17-06-2008, 07:20
The Turkish guy, although Coaches give him 7* for P.A, I don't think is very good. All of his Technical attributes are under 10, he only has 5 menthal attributes at 10 or better, (3 being at 10, and 2 at 11) and physically isn't great, due to his age. A player of his age should have advanced mental attributes, which may have seen him get some games in the team, but I just don't rate him as a player. He's fast enough to play on the wing, but doesn't have the stamina to play more than 1 game at a time, and his crossing is only 6, with Dribbling at 5, and Passing at 7.

The defense is OK. I'm going to keep Smith at CB, and look for a decent partner, because the players we currently have just aren't good enough. They all seem to be lacking in 1 set of the 3 categories for attributes. If we could combine them all together, they would make a legendary CB http://community.sigames.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

I signed the Turkish lad as someone who could come off the bench and cause trouble late on with his pace. Despite the admittedly poor stats he was great and became a first team regular scoring quite freely from the right wing.

Hi bermybhoy, I think I'm actually going to have to pull out of following on from Nepenthez for Ten Ton FC because to be honest I've got a bit bored of Footy Manager atm and my laptop can only handle one big game on it so I am going to uninstall it for a while. I apologise that I couldn't take part at all in this challenge, but I will still be watching avidly from the sidelines!

Good luck to whoever takes my place - make sure you beat those Southern Softies!

Second half and End Of Season Report

The second half of the season started well where we were still mid table but after a decent start we then went on a ten game losing streak which left us fighting for our football league status. After our remarkable 2-1 win over Rushden we put together a few victories and draws and pulled away from the relegation zone to give us league two football for at least another season.

The performances of all the players were really dire during hte second half of the season as we kept on leaking goals and we couldn't score any. My best player, if I had to choose one would be my top scorer Jermaine Blackburn with an average rating of 7.11 and 15 goals.

I normally played a 4-4-2 formation like this:

<pre class="ip-ubbcode-code-pre"> Francis

Peel Holgate McMaster Dunning

Sawyer White Driver Williams

Howell Blackburn</pre>

Screenshots

Table (http://i117.photobucket.com/albums/o46/robert_29694/SoftiesTable-1.jpg)

I normally swapped the two strikers around with Lucas and sometimes used Steve Wright at right wing.

Roberts earns a new COntract!

On the 1st of May 2016 long serving Legends manager Danny Roberts was given a new two year deal from Legends chairman Alan Watson where he will earn £725 per week. Roberts had this to say after he heard the news about the new contract, "I am delighted to stay at the Southern Softies. I now we haven't performed up to the high standards of last season but we managed ot avoid relegation and now that I am atill here for another tow years at the very least I think we can build on this and maybe challenge for promotion to the COca Cola League one.

Legend FC - Update

Spent some time assessing the squad and I think it's in pretty good shape. A media prediction of 24th being a tad harsh to say the least, I would even go as far as saying we could be dark horses for a promotion bid.

My assistant think that the defence needs strengthening and I couldn't agree more! Really struggled to find anyone who was better than what we had, then stumbled across this gem (http://img249.imageshack.us/img249/223/romaniankj5.jpg) . My assistant rates him as a decent premier league signing! I think he could be a rock for us this season.

The team was boosted by 6 more arrivals (who I will introduce to you in due course http://community.sigames.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif )

Next was the tactics. I decided to plump for one that I had created previously as the team was well set up to use it. This tactic has worked well for me at every club I've been with so I see no reason why it wont work at Legend FC.

We will be playing like this. (http://img265.imageshack.us/my.php?image=tablefg4.jpg)

Legend FC - Update

Pre-Season

A very successful pre-season for Legend FC. We won all 5 of our friendlies, conceding in only one game.

Results were as follows;

Redditch 0 - 2 Legend FC
Stafford 0 - 2 Legend FC
Garforth 0 - 2 Legend FC
Legend FC 3 - 0 Legend FC U-18
Hitchin 2 - 4 Legend FC

Ok, not the strongest of opponents http://community.sigames.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif , but I only use pre-season to get players fit and to get morale high, which is precisely what we did. bermybhoy
18-06-2008, 03:07
I see...

Get them to scout the reserves or u-18 leagues, sometimes a good way of spotting potential loan signings, or identifying players before they're released by bigger clubs.

Other than simply refining player searches and scanning your eye down it for targets to make them look at can be useful. Maybe sort by key attributes first. Not LLM guidlines compliant mind you, and without wanted another debate on it, my understanding is that the player search screens are meant to represent your staff's collective knowledge of players anyway.

davafish
18-06-2008, 03:17
Cheers Bermybhoy, I had two scouts and they came up with 3 targets all season and they didn't want to join.

A very pleasing start to the season, if we had a bit more luck and a bit more quality I dare say we would have won the games we drew and drawn the games we lost. Our defence is weak, especially the full backs, however I am finding it a right pain to find anyone better than what we've got!

The cups were not a priority for me, and I fielded a 'weakened' side. They put up a battling display against Championship side Plymouth but the gap in quality told eventually. They did not however put up a battling display against Dag & Red and went out with nothing more than a whimper.

Star Players thus far are Driver (http://img254.imageshack.us/img254/5066/driverpq6.jpg) and Williams (http://img151.imageshack.us/img151/6836/williamsfq1.jpg) . With Driver running the show from centre midfield and Williams a wizard on the wing. We're scoring plenty of goals and are reasonably tight at the back, despite the aforementioned lack of quality in that department.

The current league table looks like this - Table (http://img169.imageshack.us/img169/202/table2wg9.jpg)

Overall, I think if I can keep this team together and maybe bring in a couple of full backs in at some point we can sustain our promotion bid.

Well that's actually 24 games into the season http://community.sigames.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Things are going great at Legend FC, with the current table looking like this - Table (http://img528.imageshack.us/img528/515/leaguetablewz4.jpg). We've also progressed to the FA Cup 3rd round, where we meet Premiership club Sunderland at the Stadium of Light.

We've had some amazing results up to this point. The 5-1 win at Rotherham was a particular highlight as we were massive underdogs for that game and fought back from one goal down. We've also scored some big wins over our nearest rivals Accrington and MK Dons. If we keep our form up then we've got a great chance of winning the league, which would be a great achievement considering we're predicted to finish 24th. What do the media know, eh? http://community.sigames.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

We tried that at the outset, but for whatever reason no-one could get the game to recognise the database on another machine from the one it was created on. Probably better than having everyone download a database as well anyway.

Sod off http://community.sigames.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif - That only happened once, and I was left with not a lot. http://community.sigames.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_frown.gif

This season, just a quick update as I've not got the time to do the updates as normal, but want to get this finished for Paul so he can start asap...

League

Currently sat 12th in the BSP, but with a game in hand that, if won would see us shoot up to 8th. Unfortunately due to a 5-4 loss to Hereford, and lowly Billericay stealing a late win, Play -Offs are pretty much out of reach now, after 32 games, as I find myself 11 points off, but with a game in hand. Aim for the season is to finish in the top ten.

Cups

F.A Cup we were beaten in the first round, but are currently in the 5th round of the Setanta Shield (Cheltenham) and the 4th Round of the F.A Trophy (Billericay) - so the chance of a trophy winning season is still definitely there.

The Team

Playing well, despite the results, I just really need to find a healthy medium with the attack / defense bias. We're scoring and conceding so many, that with a bit of better tactics, we could have taken the league by storm. James Dunn, has 39 goals in 35 games, and NepentheZ has an Impressive 22 assists and 13 goals in 39 games from the wide right. Scott smith is chipping in too, with an incredible return of 16 goals in 30 games. The biggest problem I feel with the team is the lack of decent back up players, and the team really suffers when Injuries or suspensions come about. I think the laws on transfers and spending will need to be looked at if we are serious about getting a decent team together.

Transfers

I've not signed or sold anyone since the beginning of the season, but the following has happened.

James Dunn - Bids from Rangers (£55,000 + 20%), Burnley (£350,000),

NepentheZ - Bids from C. Palace (£21,000), Huddersfield (£66,000), Aberdeen (£30,000), St Mirren (£66,000), Falkirk (£39,000), Wigan (£29,000), Man City (£29,000), Bolton (£35,000 + 25%), Exeter (£53,000)

Cook - Bids from QPR (£46,000), Cardiff (£29,000), Sheff Weds (£22,000)

So a lot of SPL teams, Lower tabled Premiership teams, and promotion pushing Championship teams are bidding for our players, but Burnleys bid for Dunn aside, nothing is near good enough for the players. My fear is that the board will start accepting the bids on my behalf.

Despite all bids being rejected, only NepentheZ became unhappy about it.

Key Games

TEN TON FC 6 - 2 Histon (Dunn Hat-Trick)
TEN TON FC 3 - 6 MK Dons - took a battering.
TEN TON FC 4 - 5 Hereford - unlucky defeat.

So theres the three key games, and I picked these because the 2 losses are to the teams in the top 5 spots, which are the teams we must be beating if we're to have any shot at promotion next season.

In the hereford game, the score was 2-4 in Herefords favour, when 2 goals in 41 seconds we scored for Ten Ton. James Dunn scored, and from the restart, the player passed the ball back to the keeper, who missed it and it rolled in \o/

Both goals we scored on the same minute (73rd) - something that I've never seen before.

What secifically would you change about the transfers rules? I've felt the main inhibitor to our ambitions is the standard of player we can find, not the rules on signing them.

Happy to change it if there's an issue though.

3 Bosman signings. Now, I appreciate people after me may not want the dross that I sign, but I don't think 3 is enough. The way I personally work in the lower leagues, is by signing a fair few young free players, then seeing how they work in my team. The fact that I can only sign 3, also means that I may miss out on players released or found later on in the season, after my 3 are done.

25% of a budget. The reason I wouldn't be happy with this, is because, especially in these leagues, 25% is not a lot. (Maybe £30,000 if you're lucky). Now the better players in this division are valued at around £15,000 - £30,000, meaning it would be very, very hard to sign these key players on such a small budget.

Not really a massive issue, and a bit late for any changes to effect me, but something I feel should be discussed with the members involved.

I think there's a misunderstanding here - all that is referring to is signing players for the FOLLOWING season. Not the season you're playing. You can sign as many as want then. The point being that if you sign a load of players on pre-contracts (I'm not sure anyone would really do this anyway, but it was just to reuce the risk), the next guy might come in and find he has no room to pick anyone up himself.

Hope that hasn't ruined your season http://community.sigames.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_frown.gif

This has hindered me playing the way I wanted to on each of the three occasions I took the team for a season http://community.sigames.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_frown.gif - I read it as not being allowed to sign more than 3 free transfers, thus making me very uneasy at signing any at all. Now its been cleared up though, Next time I take the club, I'll be able to make massive strides in a season.

I thought only being able to sign 3 was a way of keeping a core of the squad together, and not allowing managers to replace basically full teams when they take over. Silly me http://community.sigames.com/customicons/icon13.gif

That's hugely disappointing, it really is, because I imagine you're usually quite the wheeler dealer.

Is that whole rule unneccesary? Does it just cause more confusion than anything? Because it's really just there to catch a hypothetical situation. I'm not that sure who will spend that long looking at future signings who they will not themselves manage anyway.

It's only an issue if someone makes, say 10 and the next guy is lumbered with a load of new signings he had no say over.

However, it's obviously unpopular or just confusing, so let's take it out.

Ten Ton FC - End of Season update

Summary -

A very poor end to the season meant Ten Ton FC finished in 13th place. This disappoints me greatly, as with a 1/4 of the season left, there was only 5 points between me and a play-off place. I lost a lot of form in the end, and couldn't take the team further.

Although we did make it to the semi-final of one on the cups, the only good thing about the whole season really, was the fact that we managed to put away so many goals over the duration.

League Table (http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a385/NepentheZ/TenTon/Season%203/Table.jpg)
Graph (http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a385/NepentheZ/TenTon/Season%203/Graph.jpg)

Squad (http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a385/NepentheZ/TenTon/Season%203/Squad.jpg)

James Dunn - Runner Up Total League Goals (http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a385/NepentheZ/TenTon/Season%203/JD2ndTGS.jpg)

Players

Pick of the bunch....

James Dunn (http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a385/NepentheZ/TenTon/Season%203/JamesDunn.jpg) - Another fantastic season, scoring 52 goals. His goals dried up late on in the season, and a few niggly injuries caused him to miss a few games too.

NepentheZ (http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a385/NepentheZ/TenTon/Season%203/NepentheZ.jpg) - Attracting much attention from Premier league clubs, the guy had a great season. So many assists, and chips in with a lot of goals too.

Scott Smith (http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a385/NepentheZ/TenTon/Season%203/ScottSmith.jpg) - Scored a lot of goals from midfield, before being moved to defence to try and sure up the back 4. It didn't work, but he still performed to a very high level.

So, thats it. Sorry the updates haven't been as good as the first half of the season, but I've been real busy (until now \o/ ) - and just haven't had the time to continue them in that manner.

Next Season

Not entirely sure who's after me next, but just some info for you from the season.

Smith, NepentheZ and Dunn are all Prem quality players, and building a team around them would go a long way into getting us promoted. With players like this in the team, I find it hard to see why we've struggled this season, so maybe a fresh tactic will see you dominant.

Staff - I've not renewed any contracts yet, so all only really have about 4 weeks left. I did this so you are free to look for new staff if you wish (something I usually always do when I take over a club) - and personally I think there are better staff avaliable than the ones we currently have.

The save game will be uploaded when I get home later, as my net is faster there. Hope this update is good enough..!!

Goo stuff as always Nep. Shame the season didn't turn out better. The quality of player is certainly there, we just need to find the right tactics to take us over the line.

An incredible amount of goals in that division - how on earth did the top scorer manager a 63 goals haul - crazy stuff.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Sunderland game proved to be the catalyst of our downfall. As you can see we capitulated with some style. . I have no idea why we went from title challengers to play-off outsiders but we did.

Everything went against us and I felt like there was nothing I could do to get us out of this rut.

We went into the Huddersfield game as 9-1 outsiders so I played down our chances of winning and told the players that the pressure was off. Which worked, as we ended our eleven game winless streak.

The table now looks like this - Table (http://img188.imagevenue.com/img.php?image=50630_Table3_122_508lo.jpg)

So, 10 games to play. 10 wins and who knows? http://community.sigames.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

That's a decent season even if you finish there. Hopefully the form will pick up a bit and get us a playoff spot.

Looking at that list of bermybhoy's, does ridleys want to go above me? I've already managed them twice and would rather give preference to people who haven't had a go yet.

Good stuff Dava. Jus a word of advice (if you didn't already know) - Any enquiries for players, just ignore them, and don't click any answer, so people don't get upset.

IF the board do decide to accept an offer, immediately offer the player to all clubs for £0. You will get floods of offers, and if the player accepts one of the clubs bidding £0, you can cancel the transfer. On a similar note, Dunn has 4 years left on his contract \o/

Unfortunately, "NepentheZ" is now in his final year under you, and wants to leave the club (or is at least unhappy about not being allowed to move) - so tying him up on a contract would be a MASSIVE bonus http://community.sigames.com/customicons/icon14.gif

bermybhoy
23-06-2008, 10:56
Beaten to it. All works.

I've been banging on about this previously, but if you're doing any contract negotiations - just check it's set to full time, as it defaults to part time, even for existing players.

Hopefully both of those guys stay. Might be worth offering them contracts to see if it cheers them up. I don't think there's been an instance yet of the board accepting an offer for anyone, so hopefully they don't get greedy.

Good luck http://community.sigames.com/customicons/icon14.gif

Hi guys thanks for the advice, both been offered 5 year contracts (full time) I have signed all my players so far on FT.

The board wern't the happiest at the start but I do think Nep was hampered last season with his misunderstanding of the transfers.

Board Confidence (http://i305.photobucket.com/albums/nn222/davafish/boardconf.jpg)

Staff - signed new ass man & coach, renewed two and renewed the two scouts

I was happy with Nep, Dunn, Smith, Roche & Cook... all excellent players for this league. I have only been able to sign frees, some could be good but no real stand out players.

Harris (http://i305.photobucket.com/albums/nn222/davafish/stephenharris.jpg)

Graham (http://i305.photobucket.com/albums/nn222/davafish/PaulGraham.jpg)

Williams (http://i305.photobucket.com/albums/nn222/davafish/JakeWilliams.jpg)

Armstrong (http://i305.photobucket.com/albums/nn222/davafish/JonArmstrong.jpg)

Transfer Summary (http://i305.photobucket.com/albums/nn222/davafish/transfersummary-1.jpg)

I then set out to make sure our best players stayed, as they are attracting bid after bid after bid...

Good News One (http://i305.photobucket.com/albums/nn222/davafish/goodnews1.jpg)

Good News Two (http://i305.photobucket.com/albums/nn222/davafish/Goodnews2.jpg)

Unfortunately Cook is not playing ball but he has two years left, so the next man can worry about his future (although I shall persist)

Ass man played all my friendlies (badly) and my first home game was Rochdale.

Good Start (http://i305.photobucket.com/albums/nn222/davafish/goodstart.jpg)

I still need a left winger although none are available, nobody will join on loan but I hope some deals can be done to strengthen, just hope my scouts find someone.

All in all its a good team for this level and will be disappointed if I don't hit at least play off's.

Some pretty decent looking signings there. You should have a bit of cash to spend now too if anyone comes up. Bannon was after my time but he looked decent from what I remember, hopefully you can get someone better in.

I think the key thing here is tightening up at the back - if you can avoid shipping goals we should do well. After all, you're guaranteed 50 a season from our man Dunn...

Legend FC - Update

Game 42

Legend FC 0 - 1 Dorchester

Game 43

Carlisle 1 - 2 Legend FC

Game 46

Legend FC 0 - 1 Bristol Rovers

Walsall 4 - 5 Legend FC

Game 49

Accrington 0 - 4 Legend FC

Game 50

Legend FC 1 - 0 Hereford

Game 51

MK Dons 0 - 1 Legend FC

As you can see, as horrendous we were at home was as brilliant as we were away. Destroying 2nd placed Accrington 4-0 and beating MK Dons to deny them automatic promotion, were particular highlights.

All in all, this meant we gate-crashed the play-offs as we ended the season in 6th place. I mistakenly went into the last game believing we needed to finish 6th to get a play-off place http://community.sigames.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_redface.gif , with Stockport (the team in 6th) losing and us drawing 0 - 0, I was willing a goal. Imagine my delight when a 92nd minute corner was converted! Only to find out after the game we would have finished in the play-offs regardless of the result! http://community.sigames.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

In the play-offs we would meet...MK Dons. We showed we could beat them, by doing it twice throughout the course of the season.

For them it was an instant chance for revenge.

Play-off Leg 1

Legend FC 2 - 1

A Jermaine Blackburn brace, his 34th and 35th goals of the season putting us in the driving seat for a place at Wembley.

We went into the second leg as favourites...

Play-off Leg 2

MK Dons 3 - 1 Legend FC

Unfortunately, this is where our season ends. We didn't turn up for this game. One shot on target says it all really. Disappointment.

This is how it all ends - Table (http://img79.imageshack.us/my.php?image=finaltableld5.jpg)
