Game freezes

Every so often, when I am playing a game the screen just freezes and I have to reboot my computer, meaning I lose everything from when I previously saved the game. I now save before every game but is annoying when I'm in the middle of a game.

I take it my graphics card or whatever isn't good enough to properly play the game then? I have no idea how to update things on the computer so that's no good.

Anyone else had an issue with this?

Go to Control panel, System and on he left pane click on Device Manage. C lick on Dispay Adaptors and expand to show the graphics card. Then click on drivers and there is an option to search for a newer version.

I tried just playing with the 2D pitch and it still crashes alot. Surely it's not the graphics card then.

Could be your running something in the background that is conflicting with the game or Steam e.g. AVG. Updated drivers are a must though.

You might need to look at some of the options re FAQ thread on gaming issues.

Yeah, only ever crashes during a match.

The mode it's played in probably won't affect whether it crashes or not to be honest.

Always worth updating graphics card drivers and directX if you're struggling with crashes as these are the most common cause.

do the players legs only move and nothing else?!

No. Nothing moves and I can't even move the mouse around. It just freezes the whole computer.

When that happens if you ctrl+alt+delete to get he task manager you can see if the game is "running" or "not responding". You can also end the game to avoid a reboot.

Ctrl + alt + delete doesn't work. The keyboard and mouse stop working altogether.

Load up your game

click the FM sign at the top right

click preferences

then 'display and sounds'

look at the section called 3D settings at the bottom

set graphic detail to low

untick show stadiums, outside scenes and wheather effects

do you hae the internet up while playing FM?!

after you do all that restart pc/laptop

Does this happen only with FM? If so, the post above re the settings might be the solution?

If you've updated the drivers etc - can you post us information from a dxdiag so we can check into the problem?

If the computer has frozen completely then it tends to be a hardware fault - it's often the first sign of overheating.

Once you've ruled out driver updates, I would download a program called Speccy from Piriform to see how high your component temperatures are getting.

The whole computer freezing is normally done by the motherboard to prevent damage to other components.

hmm. I have exactly the same problem and after updating drivers and optimising the system it was still happening. I also assumed my graphics card was overheating so I gave the inside of the PC a good clean removing a LOT of dust from inside (BTW Don't use a household vacuum cleaner to do this you will zap your components with static) The problem is still happening but seems less frequent so this was probably the cause. I include my dxdiag in case there is something in common between our systems.
