Making media interaction more fulfilling

Recommended Posts

Media interaction is definitely an integral part of football management but I feel it could be done a little bit better. As it is right now, you can be fresh out of managerial training camp and have a whole arsenal of responses up your sleeve. What should really happen is you, as a manager, have you learn to get better at interacting with the media.

You should start out as level 1 in all areas of media handling but as you use more and more responses your experience increases and eventually you level up and can say more things. It could be further improved to have not just one skill level but different ones depending on what you want to say. For example if you talk up your players a lot you gain more experience in that, but you still only have a lesser experience level in trash talking the other manager. Every couple of levels you should be able to get a bonus perk that can be used in certain situations or after a certain period of time. Such as when you reach level 3 in Praise you can automatically bring up one of your player's morale up to full every couple of months.

Very high levels should give some very good benefits such as almost always successfully appealing a ban or shaking up an opponent so badly he refuses to play against you.

I feel this implementation would make the game a lot more realistic and would encourage long term games. Would even be good if you could save your manager from one game and import it into a fresh game.

Well, it's not the worst idea in the world (see the managers spending their wages on gambling thread for that), but it's something that sounds more suited to an RPG than a simulation game. When playing FM, we are all using our real world skills, knowledge and abilities to progress in the game. Media interaction levelling is just putting artificial constraints on the player.

If this is included, the same argument could be used to justify formation levelling (you have to use 4-4-2 until you've played it enough to level? No thanks), board interaction levelling, tactic levelling, training levelling, and so on.

Again, not a terrible idea, but very unsuitable for FM I feel.
