My new notebook: Is it good enough?

Recommended Posts

Now I'm not too good on computers so could someone please tell me if what I bought is good enough?

It's an MSI CX640

Intel Core i5-2410M

NVIDIA GeForce GT 520M 1GB DDR3

15.6" HD 1366*768

500GB HDD

4GB DDR3

Should be OK right?

PS: when I check dxdiag why does display tell me I have "Intel HD Graphics Family" chipset? :S

I don't know about computers either, so I asked on another thread if a laptop I've just ordered will play FM12 well. It has an i3 processor and lesser specs than yours and was assured it would be fine. So I'm sure yours will be good enough to play the 3D ME well, load up a decent number of leagues and run pretty fast.

Install the latest drivers for the Nvidia Geforce GT 520M.

You can get it here: http://www.nvidia.co.uk/object/notebook-win7-winvista-64bit-280.26-whql-driver-uk.html

I did download and install them but even after that and a restart it still says the Intel HD Graphics Family.... Isn't that an onboard GPU ffs? dxdiag should be showing me that I have an NVIDIA card :|

Any idea?

Yes, Intel HD Graphics is onboard GPU. Go to My Computer - System Properties - Device Manager

Look under display adapters and see what it says.

It has both...

Intel HD Graphics Family & NVIDIA GeForce GT 520M

Does that mean since dxdiag displays Intel etc that my NVIDIA card is faulty? If so I can go get my labtop replaced since Im under warranty?

No, it probably means that your laptop has switchable graphics - ie it'll automatically switch between using the Intel and NVIDIA GPUs as needed. What make/model is your laptop?

Edit: whoops, just noticed it's an MSI CX640. Yeah, it has Optimus switchable GFX.
