New laptop for FM12

Wouldn't go for that one mate

With Windows 7 "64 Bit", the Windows 7 wants to use about 2GB of RAM. With the one you linked to it only has 3GB RAM, which means only 1GB RAM left over for running FM - which means you won't be able to multitask as well. And you'll think you got a raw deal as the computer will be less responsive when switching between programs or even having internet, itunes, fm, email etc. open.

This is a better make - imo and it has more RAM and a faster processor. Having MORE RAM means you can multitask BETTER. Like play iTunes, emails, internet and things like that.

A bit over what you wanted to spend. But I think it's a lot better and you'll get more mileage out of it and a BETTER experience.

It's actually worse, because it uses a last-generation processor. More RAM is good but not at the expense of the processor.

It also has 4 GB of RAM, which is more than enough.

Sorry had the wrong one linked - http://www.dabs.ie/products/toshiba-satellite-c660-1zn-core-i5-2410m-2-3ghz-6gb-640gb-15-6--windows-7-home-premium-64-bit-laptop-7L4Z.html?refs=54950000-22

And I disagree with the 4gb RAM is enough with 64 bit. More of a personal preference I suppose. You can have more RAM added later though, but could cost you a bit more later on down the road.

I think getting more RAM now would be beneficial for the longevity of machine. I think it's worth it.

Not sure what you are talking about here... It's old RAM and its price is likely to fall several years down the line. Plus RAM is really cheap nowadays anyway - getting a stick of 4 GB RAM isn't going to set you back a ton.

4 GB is more than enough. Most of the pages of RAM that you use are not going to be active anyway and will be swapped to disk as necessary. In addition, Windows Vista and beyond actually use more RAM for caching the more RAM you have (i.e. RAM usage for idle 4 GB machines > RAM usage for idle 2 GB machines).

4 GB is more than enough for today. As long as the laptop supports more than 4 GB of RAM, you leave yourself in good stead.

Heck, the highest-spec Alienware (rip-off, of course), only goes up to 6 GB of RAM (http://www.dell.com/uk/p/alienware-area51-alx/pd) - that's right, anything above 4 GB is ultra-high specification!

In addition, I suspect the 6 GB is 3x2GB which is the most beneficial for triple-channel memory (you need three modules of exact size). Since 4 isn't divisible by 3, 4 GB isn't suitable for triple-channel memory, whilst 3 GB is too little.

I have no idea what your point here is.

If you find a better system for around the same price let me know.

The one I pointed to in my second link is a better machine than the OP linked to in their opening post.

It's also miles over his budget. :)

OP: Get that laptop - it's a nice deal. I can't match it with UK prices.

AMD Llano laptops are the only ones that could offer more value, but reviews on laptops using those processors are hard to come by.
