Load game failed

I was into my tenth season with Hartlepool and after selecting to see the match information of the previous match the entire game froze for around 30 seconds before a clicking noise and the psp turning itself off. Once I turned my psp on again and tried to load the game file it came up with the message "load game failed". Is there any way to salvage this game file and can anyone explain how and why this type of bug/game failure happens as its quite frustrating to get 10 seasons into something and for it to break in such a way.
