AcidBurn
If he is a key player then offer him the contract he may want 60k but if you offer his agent a decent amount of cash then you could get him down to 30k-40k a week.
b_raven
I would wait until year will remain, then offer. That's my advice ;-)

StevoRobbo
Its another poorly thought out 'feature' from SI IMO. A team bids for a player, you reject it. Players agent comes along demanding a new deal, you reject it. Player gets unhappy, you have 3 options. Either 'no theres time on your current contract', 'Yes i'll look into it' or 'prove you deserve one'. Where is the fourth option 'I'LL REVIEW CONTRACTS AT THE END OF THE SEASON!!!!'. You tell a player that and they should leave it till the end of the season. So far you say 'prove you deserve one' and after 3 games they come back moaning again. Or if a few days later a team bids again and you reject, you need to go through the whole process again despite already giving the player an answer a couple of days before.
