rafafloripa
From the explanatory text in the game: The Advanced Forward's main role is to lead the line and look to spearhead attacking moves. Basically, I can easily understand that a Target Man is a tall and strong guy, and that a Poacher needs to be fast and preferably a good dribbler. But what are the characteristics of an Advanced Forward? Is it just a role for less gifted strikers? Or there is something more to it?
Sol19
This might help. It's from the PC version http://www.footballmanagerfanboys.net/playbook/positional-analysis.php I find it rather useful when confused with roles. BTW, adding a Trequartista role might be nice. SI Staff Marc Vaughan Posted June 10, 2011 SI Staff Share Posted June 10, 2011 An 'Advanced Forward' is basically a less defined role than most - he's not expected to attempt to 'excel' in any area particularly (ie. not a poacher or target man) but is to take up attacking positions and look for opportunities (ie. not playing as a 'Deep Lying Forward'). The 'Complete Forward' is slightly different in that you're basically telling the striker that he can play in ANY of the roles and should change between them depending on the circumstances, with the right player this will mean he'll take advantage of his strengths dropping deep to pick up the ball when your team needs an outlet while at the same time popping up on the back post to nudge in that last minute winner .... with the wrong player though he might find himself like a headless chicken doing the wrong thing at the wrong time (ie. only use this with intelligent & talented strikers). Ceirdiff
I wouldn't say it's for unskilled strikers, my 16yo strikers Christophe Fanchone plays as advanced forward and has ~130 goals in ~80 games. In league 1 he scored 6goals in one game; and has scored so many hattricks even in the championship.
Vim
So is an advanced forward essentially a more rounded poacher?
SI Staff Marc Vaughan Posted July 16, 2011 SI Staff Share Posted July 16, 2011 So is an advanced forward essentially a more rounded poacher? A poacher is basically told to be selfish and look to score more than an 'advanced forward' who will when given the chance but will also be encouraged to lay the ball off to others - say you've got a striker who is lethal and another who is errrr picking a name purely at random Emile Heskey, you might want the lethal striker to be set as a 'Poacher' and Mr. Heskey either as an Advanced Forward (so he'll pass when given the opportunity) or Target Man (if you think he's good enough to hold up the ball, win it in the air etc.).
