Custom Tactics

Recommended Posts

I'm a fan of the old adage of building the formation to fit the players, not the other way round. I've ended up with some fairly creative looking formations over the seasons with that mind, but they normally work out OK. Obviously, over time, you do need to start adapting them towards whatever level you're competing at.

My experiences have been that a back 5 (with or without wingbacks) just doesn't work for me. In my main save, I currently have a narrow 4-4-2 diamond for regular use; a narrow 4-1-3-1-1 for when I'm trying to hang on to a lead; and a 4-2-3-1 for when I'm aggressively chasing a game. They seem to be working out OK.

I am a lover of odd shapes!

My current tactical shape looks like this

------------------------ GK -------------------------------

------------- CB ---------------- CB ------------------ LB

RWB ----------------------------- DM ---------------------

------------- CM ------------------------------------------

----------------------- AMC -------------------------- AML

------------- ST ---------------- ST ---------------------

I have a mirror version. Depends on the strength of the opporsitions fullbacks and/or wingers.

I've pretty much settled on a 4312 at this point, occasionally switching to 451 when I need wing play. Usually wins us the midfield battle which tends to translate into winning the games, assuming I can keep opponent counter-attacks in check.
