I have a young Congolese keeper called Makoundou Wamoubi Man (Regen). Interesting young player, developing rapidly, but still not quite good enough for the first team. After a league match his agent came to me and asked me for a new contract after his fine performance for the Congo.

It turns out he came on in the 87th minute and got man of the match with a 7.9 rating! These matches are simmed, but not played of course and as such you can't watch the highlights. I'm trying to think of what he as a keeper could have done to get that kind of rating.

Maybe the rest of the 20+ players played rubbish giving him the MoM after he pulled of 2 or 3 great saves? Seems a bit weird though, because my subs often dont get a rating if they play a small amount of time.

Does injury time count towards the minimum for a rating?

In the 102 minute he saved a penalty, then booted the ball over everyone for the striker to run on and score. Clean sheet + assist + penalty save + 100% pass completion.

He was apparently not man of the match by the way, 0.1 off it. Damn agents!

Looks like a standard match from the rest of his teammates. Not an assist or a key pass to his name...he must have made some stunning saves at the death.

AFAIK, players who come on after the 75th minite do not get any match rating in live games- maybe it is differwent in background matches.

hmmm. Interesting. I get this often for my young players after a new contract. I usually just reject the contract, then they may say they are unhappy because of this. if thats the case I tell them to prove it on the pitch they deserve a new contract and it shuts them up. On the rare occasion I get the odd one saying I shouldnt be challenging them. But it usually works.

Still the rating thing does seem a bit strange indeed.

usually when a player does well they'll get a rating but otherwise they normally won't. Seems a bit biased but i suppose they deserve the rating if they do so well with such little time left.

What's actually confusing me now as well is that he had 85% condition after the match when he a) started at 100%, b) came off the bence in the 87th minute and c) is a goalkeeper!

Puzzles me also. For the 7.9 rating maybe he was doing some pretty good back flips to cheer up the crowd.

Seriously though the game should not give him any kind of rating so late in the game. Maybe he did save a few shots, and Congo was under pressure so that's why he got such good notes.

I wish they had something like that.

I guess from that that he made a last-ditch save at the feet of the onrushing striker and got clattered for it... hence 7.9 for the bravery aspect of it..
