Contract Expires - Player Doesn't Leave Club (Month-to-Month contract)?

I've found that any player already at the club when starting the game doesn't leave the club once his contract expires - instead he remains on a month-to-month contract.

Does anyone know why this is? And can I just terminate their contract, or will that cost me some dosh?

After my first season, four of my youth team players who I deemed not good enough and didn't offer a contract are all still at the club on a month-to-month deal, and one first-teamer who's contract I let wind down (demanded too high wages), although the latter did eventually join another club.

However a couple of players I signed on short-term deals have left after their contract run out.

Some players stay on and you pay them on a monthly-basis - it should cost nothing to terminate their contracts.

Just free transfer them as they're surplus to requirements. It won't cost you a cent.

I'm still curious as to why some players stay on though. Do you know why this is? Is it just to give them a club to train at whilst finding a new club or something? Doesn't seem realistic to me.

They could have a high loyalty stat, or could have the club as a favoured club.

It's partially to do with reputation I think too, the players that stay on are usually in my experience low-reputation youngsters that fear they'll never get a club again if they leave. Sometimes it's also older players or the likes, I suppose there's numerous factors, like ambition, loyalty, reputation differences, etcetera.

I guess as long as you are paying them a wage they have no reason to go anywhere else...

terminating a contract with less than a week to run or that has expired shouldn't cost you anything..
