I rarely manage national teams, but when I do it's always the national team of the country in which the club I'm managing is located. That way you can develop players and prospects for the national team.

Ditto to this! Rarely do it and then only for a season or so. Find it boring apart from the ability to nurture young talent, that might not be otherwise selected.

You can try an manage an impossible task like I tried, with Cook Islands... IMPOSSIBLE, I couldn't even stand a chance against teams like New Caledonia and Tahiti.
