Fm2009 installation problem

I kindly ask for help in understanding how to install FM2009. This is the first time I am installing a brand new version of the game. The message after trying online activation is:

"We're sorry, but this installation of Football Manager 2009 Certificate could not be activated for the following reason: The application was unable to connect to the internet. Please check your connection."

- Internet connection is ok, and have tried 2 different PCs.

- I have checked keycode on Sega website and it is authentic.

- I have followed instructions regarding certificates (uninstalled game, deleted Certificates folder, and reinstalled).

- I have tried patch 9.3.1 both before online activation and after trying activation. Still same message.

Please help since this is really stupid that I bought a game and can't play it when obviously I do have internet connection.
