so what does defensive positioning actually do?

Recommended Posts

Whenever I use defensive positioning as my match prep focus, it seems my centrebacks go muppet and allow some easy goals, particularly early in the match. "Attacking movement", which I've read improves ball control, tends to yield more possession and, thus, better defensive results. So what does "defensive positioning" actually boost if not, uh, defense?

To take advantage of defensive positioning as your pre-match focus....... you should be using more conservative tactics for the match. That does not mean you have to totally scrap your tactics.. just tweak them a bit. Start the match with the tactics set to Defend or Counter and have your playing style set to "rigid" and player roaming set to "stick to position". You may be suprised at how well your team defends.

"Stick to position" helps your team maintain it's defensive shape.
