Johnny Ace
To help keep your team's shape. It's great when defending against a strong team as your team will be harder to break down
Cougar2010
Also when faced with a quick or particularly skilled player. Standing off and having the defender staying between them & the goal is often a better option than attempting/missing a tackle and allowing them a free run at the keeper. DJJOEYT
So it's not completely standing off but, 'not rushing in'? Thanks
jozza800
All of my lower league tactics are based on low closing down and quick long ball counter attacking. Drop off keep your shape and get the ball forward as quick as possible. I am the Roy Hodgson of FM (though slightly more successful!)
kingjericho
It's a good move against specific players, especially fast and good dribblers (Messi, Ronaldo, Navas). Your players will keep a distance of 2-3 feet from him so he can't dribble past you.
Smurf
They should be jockeying the player. Not diving into tackles. Forcing them wide and away from goal etc.
Johnny Ace
So it's not completely standing off but, 'not rushing in'? Thanks All stand off opponents does is reduce the sliders for closing down, so it's just a quick way to reduce your team's closing down. So make sure you check individual player's slider ie you don't want your CB's closing down up to the halfway line Easy Tackling will mean your player won't dive into a tackle & will pick his moment to make it, Hard tackling is the opposite So combining low Closing down with Easy tackling you can hold off a stronger team
