The Hibs & Romanov thread 06/07

Recommended Posts

After last season's ups and downs and every which ways, here's hoping for some tranquillity down our way. However, Romanov and tranquillity don't seem to go hand in hand. icon_frown.gif

It's also looking more likely that Tynecastle will be out of use come January due to stadium expansions.

Players that seem to be on their way oot:

Pospisil

Skacel

Webster

Hackett

Johnston

Brellier

Players in:

Bednar

Rumours in:

Ahn Jung-hwan - Duisburg

Albert Meyong - Belenenses

Farcical Rumours:

Gudjohnsen - Chelsea

Tristan - Deportivo La Coruña

<BLOCKQUOTE class="ip-ubbcode-quote"><div class="ip-ubbcode-quote-title">quote:</div><div class="ip-ubbcode-quote-content"> Hibernian FC Announce East Mains Training Centre

Hibernian FC today announced that it has secured 36 acres of land to develop a training ground in East Lothian.

In making the announcement, the Club also shared its vision for the East Mains Training Centre for Hibernian FC.

This will eventually include:

• Up to 10 full size grass pitches

• Specialist training areas (eg goalkeeping)

• Gym

• Changing facilities

• A treatment area

• An indoor short-sided synthetic pitch

• Players lounge

• Coaches’ rooms

Once completed, the Club will own its own training facilities in perpetuity. At present, the Club utilises a portfolio of facilities around the city, and each year has sought to improve the quality of training facilities available to the Manager.

The sum agreed between the Club and the vendors - £636,000 – and the purchase is subject to the Club receiving planning permission. The site also includes buildings totalling 2,800 sq metres that can be converted to provide the required accommodation. Car parking and other infrastructure already exists on the site.

A formal planning application is being worked up. The Club hopes to submit a planning application in the next few weeks and with that process expected to take 4-6 months, it is hoped that facilities could be available on site for pre-season training in 2007.

The missives were concluded (a legally binding agreement reached) at the end of March. Tony Mowbray and the football management team have been involved in the development of the plans.

The early phase of works, including the purchase and the creation of a number of pitches and changing facilities will be funded from the Club’s existing resources. The Club will consult with supporter groups about fund-raising activities to help finance the wider project. In the past, at Club Listening Groups, supporters have shown a real willingness to raise funds for a tangible project for the long-term benefit of the Club.

The announcement follows several months of careful negotiations between the Club and the landowners. The land is currently used as part of a working farm. The existing buildings are about ten years old and were designed and built to a high specification.

Rod Petrie, Club Chairman, said: “The Board has made it our top priority to secure training facilities, and we are delighted to have taken this important step in doing so. It has been a long process, but at the end of the day securing the Club’s own training facilities, fully within its ownership, is the ideal way ahead.

“We have secured the rights to a large area of land plus sizeable buildings and an existing infrastructure which offer us a lot of flexibility.

“The Club is in a rock solid financial position, performing at better than break-even. That platform provides us with confidence in tackling this investment. The Club’s financial performance has allowed us to commit to this process at the same time as increasing the budget for the football squad.

“However, while funding for an initial phase of the work is in place, we will continue with the development over the coming few years to ensure that Hibernian has training facilities on a par with anything offered elsewhere. To do so, we will be exploring sources of funding including working closely with supporters in the months ahead to explore ways in which the creativity and ingenuity of supporters can help with future work.

“We know that City of Edinburgh Council have plans to build a full-size indoor soccer barn at Hunter’s Hall at Craigmillar which we will be able to use in conjunction with the grass pitches being created at the East Mains Training Centre.â€

Tony Mowbray, Manager, said: “I am delighted that the Club has taken this major step forward, which is significant progress. I have said many times that training facilities are, in my view, the number one priority. This development will mean that we will have a base to work from in producing better players and better teams. The coaching department has stressed to the Board the need to have grass training pitches and related facilities where we can work mornings and afternoons without interruptions.

“It is a very significant investment, and I am certain that in the years ahead it will prove to be money wisely spent as the Club continues to develop talented footballers.â€

Mr Petrie added: “We fully understand the desire of supporters to know what the Club is doing about key issues, such as training facilities, but it is not always possible to share commercially sensitive information. However, now that we have reached this stage we will keep supporters informed and involved in this exciting project.â€

NOTES:

The 36 acre site is situated in East Lothian twenty minutes drive from Easter Road Stadium.

The Club is being advised by Rettie & Co, Halliday Fraser Munro and Langmuir & Hay.

The Club’s community and youth development activities will continue at a number of locations throughout Scotland, but will have access to East Mains Training Centre. The Club will remain based at Easter Road Stadium at the heart of its community.

Scott McDonald has been rumoured to have said he wants a transfer to either Hibs or Hearts, to boost his chances of getting into the Australian national team.

I would take him at Hibs, but Motherwell would be wanting a fair bit of cash(by Hibs standards)and i doubt he could replace judas Riordan.

I take it none of the Hearts fans would want him at Romanov land?

If there's one thing Hearts are desperately needing, it has to be a goal scorer. I just think we relied too heavily on our midfield last season and it's never a good sign when 2 midfielders are the club's top scorers (with one of them offski).

With Brellier out of favour and looking to be on his way out, Hartley might not be as effective next season. it was Brellier's presence that allowed Hartley to drive forward.

Hello icon_smile.gif

Shopping list

Central defender x 2

Goalkeeper x 1

Striker x 1

That would do for me, although perhaps a experienced midfielder in there would be nice too.

Goalkeeping wise the boy Andrew McNeil and Alistair Brown should be given a shot, the other 2 should be punted.

Over to you Mogga.

Hearts chairman Vladimir Romanov is yet to announce whether interim coach Valdas Ivanauskas will stay on next season, but then, the coach's identity doesn't usually stop Hearts buying players.

With Michal Pospisil and Rudi Skacel on their way out, goals will be a priority and they may return to the Czech market to sign Tomas Jun, a former Sparta striker who is now a Besiktas substitute. Sporting Lisbon's Middlesbrough target Rudolph Douala is another option. Others include Rapid Vienna forward Marek Kincl, Steaua Bucharest's Victoras Iacob and, most impressive of all, Bruges's former Real Madrid forward Javier Portillo.

Romanov can at least look forward to next term with the inspirational Paul Hartley still there. The 29-year-old was named player of the season and, along with Steven Pressley, forms the heart of the side. </div></BLOCKQUOTE>

I'd be delighted if we manage to get Tomas Jun icon14.gif

Well I want Valdas to stay to be honest , he has guts to drop a player when he is playing badly for example Fyssas got dropped and came back and he dropped Rudi a few times. Apparently Scala is in the pipeline to become Director of Football with Valdas as Head Coach or there is Billy Davies is still available and Hearts seem interested in him . I hope its Valdas and Scala to be honest . Apparently there will be an announcement next week on Vlaldas whether he is staying or going ( to be a coach as he is guarenteed a job here)

I think you'll find most Hearts fans want Valdas to stay. The guy came in having to sort out the shambles that Rix left behind, and did an excellent job in doing so. However, I think the only stumbling block is Romanov and the Lithuanian FA want him as their national team coach.

It's also a bonus that he isn't fazed having to work under Romanov.

It would surely make sense to keep hold of Ivanauskas now.

In addition to the relationship he has with Romanov that you alluded to ER, a sustained SPL effort would surely require a skelp more managerial continuity than you guys had last year.

Precisely. Heart's chance of winning the title took a massive hit when Burley was sacked.

Although i agree with that to a certain extent, you can't really slate what Romanov has achieved in his first full season at Hearts. He achieved what he set out to do this season, and more if you consider the fact that it was never his intention to win the Scottish cup. His sole aim this season was for Hearts to split the OF and get a crack at the CL. However, Burley's sacking did affect the team and there's no denying it, but for some reason or another Romanov wanted things done differently. No one in the public domain really knows for sure what happened between the both of them, so there's no point dwelling on it.

Sure, it's been a good season for Hearts fans - but it could, and perhaps should have been even greater.

Celtic were in transition and turmoil for a lot of the first part of the season, and we were an absolute shambles until March. The title was up for grabs, and Romanov blew it. How badly you blew it was shown by how close we ended up running your mob for 2nd spot - at one point we were 16 points behind. Instead of scrapping to fight off us, you should have been battling down to the wire with Celtic. The fact that you weren't is solely down to Romanov in my opinion.

5-0 thrashing to Artmedia, shipping 4 goals at Fir Park and losing 3-1 in the first Old Firm game of the season - I'd say that was quite a bit of turmoil.

Hearts dropped 12 points between sacking Burley and the New Years' Day fixture, yet still went into the fixture 4 points behind. Had they kept things together, instead of self destructing, then I don't think it's unfeasable to suggest that Hearts could have won the SPL title this season.

4-0 thrashing of Artmedia, Motherwell was a better result than the last game of the previous season and 10 men v Rangers for three quarters of the match puts a slightly different slant on those games.

There is however no doubt that Hearts under Burley were going strong at the start of the season and they would have been unlikely to have finished 16pts behind if he had stayed.

You lost because your team didn't have the necessary savvy nor the bottle to close out the game.

But that's one game in a 38 game marathon. You can continue to suck Romanov's c*ck over the good you perceive him to have done - but the bottom line is that Celtic really ought to have had a medal struck for him.

I'm trying not to make it look like I'm taking credit away from Celtic - but the bottom line is that Romanov's ego and his meddling in team affairs made things a lot easier for Celtic than they should have been. He'll continue to get away with it though, if pulling the wool over the eyes of the Hearts support proves as easy as it's been for ER.

Who the feck are you to judge me or any other Hearts fan for that matter? Because the Weegie media or some bitter OF pundits tell it like it is?

I've had this out with others in the past and given my reasons for and against Romanov, so I'm not going to waste my time justifying myself to yet another OF glory hunter. Isn't it strange that the only people that really have a problem with us are those that are in some way attached to either Rangers or Celtic?
