Injuries preventing players not reaching their potential.

Recommended Posts

Ok so I have just signed a potentially world class 19 year old and of course in his first pre season game broke his arm. He was out for 6-7 weeks and when he came back the physio said 'because of the serious nature of his injury he may now not reach his potential' So firstly, how much do injuries affect PA? and secondly surely being out for only 6-7 weeks with a broken ARM should not affect him at all really should it? It it does then it surely should be changed.

Injuries do not affect PA itself but long term injuries can have a negative effect on the player progress, causing him to miss an integral part of his development and even losing some physical attributes depending on the injury as well. All this means he is likely to have trouble developing into the kind of player he was projected to be before the injury.

Mm, I would agree that six weeks with a broken arm shouldn't have this effect. Should be injuries such as broken legs/ankles, seriously torn hamstrings/calves/achilles, tendinitis, fractured skull, damaged spine, ruptured cruciate ligament, lower limb dislocations that should have such an effect.

I don't think the game contains enough niggly recurring injuries, actually. Something that could maybe be looked at? Also players suffering a setback when coming back into training after an injury.

If he has a low Bravery attribute, he might be mentally affected, thus hampering his development. Serious injuries can result in the PA being lowered.

You could argue that Michael Owen as just one example, never reached his potential due to injuries. It's fair enough.

Is this a fact, if so what is your source?

6-7 weeks would not really have an effect but a longer term injury could

If he's out for 7 weeks, add another 2 on to it before he is match fit and not being worried about going into challenges with his iffy arm. In total thats 9 weeks missing out on progress, so it could very well mean it would take longer for him to reach his full PA
