What stats are taken into account for corner/free kick takers?

Recommended Posts

What stats are used when taking corners or free kicks. I usually try and get one or two people with high stats in corners or free kicks, but my staff often tell me that the person shouldn't be taking them. Either they are complete idiots, or my other thought is that other stats may be used when the match engine processes set pieces (crossing, long shots, technique?).

Anyone know?

Thanks.

edit: Same question for penalties too...

2 things. the attributes of free kicks, corners, penalties etc AND some mental attributes (as in real life) but mostly the first one. don't forget that the problem may actually be your staff. the staff also has attributes, and if they are low, they can't judge correctly

no no no crossing is for crossing and long shots is for long shots. don't confuse irrelevant things

A little cut n paste from the fm2011 online manual.

A good corner taker will also have good Crossing, naturally because they’ll be using these crossing skills to put the ball into dangerous areas. Also consider the footedness of a player – do you want your corners to be in-swinging or out-swinging?

Before you go poo pooing other peoples advice, please do a little research.

Thank you.

oh my God... you were so eager to tell me off that you didn't actually realise that what you wrote is proving your mistake! read the word "naturally"... this means that of course someone who is goo at corners has a good crossing attribute. it is natural. it doesn't say that you NEED the crossing in order to kick corners...

No but it says it is a good asset to have for corner taking which is waht the op asked and what I advised.

A good free-kick taker will also have good Crossing if the attempts are not direct at goal, since the free-kick will likely be put into a dangerous offensive area. If the shot is direct on goal, Long Shots may come into consideration depending on the distance, and a good Technique may be required. High Composure and Concentration are often seen in the best dead-ball specialists, so try and piece these attributes together as best you can to find the ideal free-kick takers.

Another cut n paste.

Care to comment?

i will say it once more and i hope you get what i mean. let's see Beckham. he had a killer free kick correct? he also had a killer corner, a kill through pass, a killer crossing etc. These assets in a player are always (almost) together. it would be extremely weird to see a player that can cross greatly and not being able to kick a proper corner kick. so my point is, that YES you will find all those aspects together in a player but you DO NOT need good crossing in order to have good corner kicks in the game. i hope you got it.

Oh my god. You actually won't admit how incredibly wrong you are. Irl, this may apply yes but in the game I've had many players with good corner taking etc who can't cross and good free kick takers who can't shoot long. The op asked what stats to look for in the GAME for a good. Set piece taker. I told him and you said my advice was irrelivant. You were very very wrong. But, if you can't admit it then that's up to you.

Yes you do...

NSD just quoted directly from the manual where it was implied that those attributes are significant. You should be thanking him, not arguing against him.

To sum it up:

Both: Composure and Concentration are important for dead-ball takers, as is the footedness depending on the side/position where the FK/corner is being taken from.

Free Kicks: Free Kick Taking (obviously); Crossing is important if the taker opts to cross it; Long Shots is considered if the shot is from some way out; Technique is accounted for to some extent.

Corners: Corners is intuitive; and Crossing for obvious reasons.

you DO NOT need crossing for corners and long shots for free kicks. they are there. you DO NOT need them. if you don't want to learn, it is your problem, not mine

I'm not claiming to have personally looked at the code, so I can't say with absolute certainty myself, but would you not agree that the manual (which is surely a credible source for such information) appears to indicate that the attributes I've mentioned above are taken into consideration to some extent?

Vangelis, I can see that the quote about corners in the manual is ambiguous and could be interpreted differently. But the free-kick quote explicitly says that Technique is sometimes needed and that long-shots play a role. That is pretty indisputable.

Is English your native tongue? I don't mean to be critical, but I'm not sure you're picking up the nuances of what the manual is saying.

It's also not true that players in FM who are good at corners or free-kicks are also always (or even mostly!) good at crossing. It's generally the case in real players whose attributes are set by researchers, but it's not true in newgens who are generated by the game.

I think what the OP was asking for was a good corner taker and free-kick taker, not just what is required to take corners. So, no those stats are not required to take a corner, but they do enhance the corner-takers ability to take a good corner.

So Vangelis21, you're right, you don't NEED those stats for a corner taker, but those stats will make players BETTER corner takers, not just because they will generally be better players, but because the ME does take those stats into account at set-peices.

Vangelis-

I understand what you are saying, and whilst it is usually true in real life, it is definitely not always the case in FM.

For example, consider these two players:

Player 1 has 18 for Corners and 2 for Crossing. Player 2 has 17 for Corners and 15 for Crossing.

I understand what you're saying in that Player 2 is the more 'realistic' player (ie. that Corners and Crossing generally go hand in hand) but players like Player 1 do occur from time to time. You seem to indicate that you would select Player 1 based solely on his Corners attribute, but I would argue that Player 2 is the better option because he has more attributes relevant to corner taking.

To go back to the OPs question, I think I recall reading that the Shoots with Power PPM can be useful for penalty-taking. At any rate, staff members in backroom advice would recommend that players with this PPM should take penalties, assuming they had a good Penalty Taking attribute as well, of course.
