Actually, I might have read about this a while ago. It is a tournament that the winners of each continental tournament play in. It is hosted by the World Cup hosts

Exactly.

Not once has anyone reported someone like Spain being invited (who are probably the most likely Europeans to be invited). It was a bug which was fixed with the patch.

Another person who reads a wikipedia article and thinks they know everything about the competition. Japan are the very reason that it's unlikely anyone outside of the Americas will ever be invited again.
