Weird, I am on the 1st January 2012, and Darren Gibson has played 7 games, Macheda has none, Rafael played 17 games for Man Utd in two seasons, then went to Tottenham where he is a first teamer, 74 games in 2 and a bit seasons, Baxter has no games, Possebon has played 11 games for United and John Bostock has played 1 game for Tottenham, and 3 games on loan at Championship Charlton.

As for Gibbs, he has 4 games for Arsenal.

Nothing major, but I suppose it is more than some, unless you are Macheda :D

I would like to buy FM in German shops again ;-)

There should be training camps. Every team visits training camps.

When you're a farm team, you should claim a clause, that your loan player plays a minimum of matches at the feeder club.

Training should be more detailed, for example there should be different training programs for different weekdays.

Something like a *scenario mode*, e.g. you take over a team and it says: you'll be fired if you can't prevent this team from relegation within 7 matches.

What about spending a part of your wage for the club, if the club gets into financial troubles? If you spend a part of your salary, your Loyality-value rises and the fans and your players do have more respect of your work.

Second teams like Bayern II etc should be made separate and more like affiliate clubs like the Spanish clubs have been.

Ability to offer your share in a co-owned player in Italy
Ability to offer a team co-ownership in a part-exchange deal.

testemonials. from when a player first plays a league game to ten years past that he should get the chance to play a testemonial att the end of the season, :D

e.g player x has been at the club 10 years and you now have the opption to offer the player a testemonial at the end of the season

First of all sorry for my english, hope this makes some sense.

In general I agree with almost all the recommendations here. The ones about more interaction between staff, directives, players and fans are a must.

The other one that I liked is the one about what you do with the money you get paid as a manager. I believe that if its implemented properly could be great. As an example of this, Manuel Pellegrini (Villareal coach) and Claudio Borghi (ex Independiente coach) were bidding few months ago to buy a little club in Chile to later develop players to sell. This addition would add a new dimension to the game, not a "manager" one but in my eyes a great addition.

Now going more in detail there are some elements that should be taken into account, maybe Im too picky with them but in any case I will give my shout :).... For example if you are managing AC Milan you should receive info about when to play certain players or not. Its well know that Milan have one, if not the best, performance centre in world football and that they reduce the injury risk by studying, according to their fitness, between which dates a player could get injured, stopping them from playing at those times.

Other one would be the importance of the architecture of the stadium and the fans, as is not the same to play in a "tranquil" stadium with "easy going fans" than playing away in the Ramon Calderon, in the cauldron of the Bombonera or Anfield.

Other thing would be to give certain "special abilities" to the coaches. With this I'm not talking if they are 1 or 7 stars, I'm talking about how certain coaches influence the way of playing of a player and a team. As an example I can call the famous Ricardo Moniz. Obviously he is a guy interested about developing the technique, quoting him : "In recent years I have uncovered certain aspects of ‘technique training’ for my vision and my experience working with the Coerver Method. The next time it will be fixed on the views and conversations that I've had with other trainer-coaches, who use the method as their framework" why I shouldnt suppose that the young players he trains wouldn't have a higher technical ability than the usual younger, or the ones that are trained by Pepijn Lijnders to be "extreme in their technical abilities" as he wants them to be, and as result of that the young players he trains would "try more tricks" than the usual.

Obviously this are too fine details but could be a nice addition for the game to see how certain coaches can change the way the team play and which abilities and moves a player develop better.

I would had liked to explain myself better but hopefully this will make some sense.

Cheers

love the idea of the seperate teams.. gives more room for individual matches, which brings me to another point:
another psychological effect on players as i mentioned before.

it's really important for players to react dissapointed when put back to the 2nd squad.
this should be more pointed out.
Also it's a must to bring back the ' move to ... squad for: 1/2//4/8 weeks'

For closing down i think there should be two bars on the same slider. The slider would represent the pitch and the player would close down when between the two sliders. This would make it easier to make forwards and wingers track back or close down the ball in opponent's half but not the entire pitch.

Six ideas for Team-Talks:

- Improve Team Talk Feedback
- Add "Motivation" to the Select Team Talk screen
- Add a "Special Team Talk Available" icon to the Select Team Talk screen
- Rename the "None" team talk
- Add a pop-up indicating in more detail what the team-talk means in context
- Don't provide any team-talk which is nonsensical in context

Discussed in more detail at:

contracts/transfers/loans:
* more options on contracts eg minimum release clause on last year of contract
* contract clauses to extend an existing contract for an additional year
* minimum release clauses for foreign leagues (or higher leagues)
* ai-clubs accepting/suggesting transfers with money for goals clauses or additional money when reaching international competitions and so on
*two-year loans
*more interaction with affiliated clubs, eg an option to ask what kind of player is needed, so i don't have to guess whether the player in question will make many apps during loan

scouting:
scouting is not effective enough i think, there are so many unrealistic and annoying things:
* when i send out a scout to england after half a year i expect him to have an oppinion on all star players and well known talents - maybe not a detailed report but at least a star rating.
* i want an option to scout a certain club, a detailed report on every player
* irl south america produces a lot of talents, not all of these hyped boys will become worldstars, but i want my scouts (even when they're scouting somewhere else in the world) to tell me that there is a talented player and advise me to send a scout
* i want scouting reports to improve in accuracy when a player is scouted several times, instead i always get the same reports and when i check via cheating-tool the pa-scouting is mostly inaccurate (or speaking honestly worthless). on the other hand scout reports a very good in terms of estimating profesionalism, big matches or injury-proneness, which is heavily unrealistic if i think of my scout sitting in the stadium and watching only one game.
* i want my assistant manager to provide undetailed scout reports of my opponent after a match (above mentioned star-rating)

tactics:
it would be very handy to have personal instructions for set pieces, not only for set-piece takers. for example i like to have my strikers swapping positions, but i can only asign special duties (challenge keeper, lurk outside area etc) to a position. so during 50% of my corners i have my oversonic midget challenging the keeper and my ten foot muscle-mountain lurking somewhere.
same with versatile defenders: for example a D RLC who is a right footed natural CB, i dont want him to try crosses from the left side. i wish there was an everything else overriding option to tell him not to cross the ball.

we also need special tactical moves. for example ml/mr aml/amr: it seems to me that the match engine assumes that all wide players have to run to the corner flag an try crosses. if i set my player to crosses: rarely, he then runs to the corner flag and seems to be completely lost. the player has got no plan b. that is where my tactical move comes in: it would be grat if i could tell him not to run to the corner flag but to cut inside earlier or try a diagonal pass. this would make the game better for teams with players like messi or ribery who play on the "wrong" side or just can not cross or for teams without a tall striker or just to try something different when being down by one and only ten minutes to go...

some tactical paterns that came to my mind:
tell a striker to provoke free-kicks and corners - not scoring. when i remember last ac milan champions league final, inzaghi was only on the pitch for this reason. his team played very defensive, some counter attacks by seedorf and kaka but most of the time milan had long balls to inzaghi, who didn't try to dribble through the defenders but to get fouled and to produce corner kicks.

handball-like passing around the ball just outside the opponent's penalty area and waiting for good ocasions for a through ball. like guardiola's barca

passes my players have to run onto (not only target man). like rijkaard's barca

pushing oponents' attacks on the side or into the center of the pitch (as a general tactical option, instead of every game opp. instruction which has to be renewed when a player is substituted)

433 striker positioning: when the ball is on the right side my SR drops slightly deeper and my SL moves up into a second SC position. in game the tactical positioning is way too static.

training:
i find it rediculous that i can only train certain groups of attributes. most obvious is ball control, which increases dribbling and heading. why isn't it possible to train heading only? an easy way to enhance the training section could be to be able to give every player one special attribute to work on along side his normal schedule.

in general it would be nice to have more feedback on attribute development, for example: message from your assistant manager: "players x, y and z have increased their bravery as they were the driving forces behind the great comback of your team in the last cup match..."

- players who want to leave my club because they want to play at a bigger club should really move to a bigger club and not to a club in my league that hasn't played an international match in years (of course it also has a lower reputation)

- players who want to leave the club should not suddenly "want to prove their worth to the team" after being transfer listed

- the left- and right-arrows at the top of every screen should take you to the next item in the list you are currently viewing.
for example: when i view the transfer list, i want to click on the first player and then go to the next player in the list and not the next player in the first player's club.

- the market value calculation seems to have some flaws. one of my young players played a whole season and did well, improved but he is still valued only 40,000€

- in my first season the goal is "title challenge", in the second season after having reinforced the team the goal is only "international qualification". this has happened to me at several clubs.

- the confidence area needs to be improved: the fans are disappointed at my youth signings for 10,000€ although they will be top-players in a few years. the fans are ecstatic about high results in friendly matches and these matches are always mentioned in the Board Confidence Update.

- The AI-clubs should not let go of their top youth talents. Or at least they should ask for a decent transfer fee.

- more interaction with affiliated clubs: you should be able to propose not needed players to your affiliated clubs, or advise them a talent youth you just scouted that is not good enough for you. in return they'd tell you of players they have scouted but that would not want to join their club.

In the Team Tactics screen you can check specific player attridute details pre match, eg the list of 1-11 when showing "Long Shots" for all a number appears next to the selected option relating to the players Long shot ability (many other too like TTB, RWB etc). This saves time jumping between screens when tailoring instructions, however this only works away from a match. An in-match situation will not give you that data for comparison with the exception of set piece key attributes. Its a pain, can SI include the in match view option for FM10 please?

The option to completely hide attributes, so you never see them in a game. Already got the option for attribute masking, but I'd love an option to completely remove attributes, even for players in your whole squad. It's tough at times not to just reduce players to a bunch of numbers, I'd like to be able to have to decide on who I want to buy based on past performances, stats, scout reports only etc.

In other sports sims, sometimes the attribute numbers aren't on such a broad range as they are in FM (1-20). A 1-12 or 1-8 scale might be an alternative. Personally, I like the "stars" in the scouting report, a league-relative measure of the player's quality. It forces the manager to rely more on regular & detailed scouting, player personality & PPMs, and actual game performance & stats to make decisions.

Implement Button. I'd like to see an option that allows you implement your Assistant Manager's Feedback during a match. It would save you from having to flick between his feedback and the Opposition Instructions screen.

Useful & easy new feature building on the assistant feedback feature. I find the most common to be the "We would have better performance if we played so & so to their weaker foot." Maybe the simple option of MAKE RECOMMENDED CHANGES [YES] or [NO] for each of the assistant's suggestions. Take or leave each piece of advice with one-click convenience.

I want to be able to talk more with my players, individually. As it is now, its very static, and i have to go trough the press. Maybe i wanna say something like "you've been playing very good lately, keep it up, i know you can" or "im expecting more from you". Show me that you want to be a part of my first team the next game" etc, but instead i have to talk to a member of the press.

I've said in other posts that I think the tactics features of the game are too detailed and micro-managing, the player interaction, personality, and communication portion of the game is underdeveloped. Managers spend as much, or more, of their time working with players, talking with them, directing them, managing conflict or personality as they do micro-managing tactics. FM should reflect this.

At the start of the season, i would like to have a meeting with my team and go trough the expectations of the season, what type of football i would like for us to play, what i want to improve etc. For example: Im the new manager at Rochdale. I tell the players at the meeting that this year, we will play 4-3-3, with counter-attacking as our main focus. The players might react confused or pleased, and during the pre-season, i get reports from my ass-man on how the players are improving/or not during the training sessions. "Our three midfielders have trouble keeping their positions, but our wingers look really comfortable with this style. John Doe especially has been looking wery good these past two weeks."

This is another example of how player & staff management could be enhanced. The Board gives you expectations for the season and updates on how well you've been working to achieve those expectations... why not something similar for the team? Individual players? Staff?

I would like to have more time during the pre-season. As it is now, i start the game, and the next day we play Chelsea reserves away. I should have atleast two weeks before the players get back from their holidays.

Just a general "please" to this.

Friendly competitions customised

I've commented in this thread. This would be a nice, small addition to enhance one's personal experience with a career game. FML's user-created competitions could serve as a model.

Mentioned before, but the Arrange Friendlies option needs looking at. I'm tired of arranging a tour of England only to find they're all rejected because those clubs have games either side of my planned dates. The AI rejects it every time, so why do i have to request a Friendly everytime? There should be a pre-check built in: 'Doncaster Rovers are unlikely to agree to your Friendly Game request as they have a game 2 days later". Something simple like that would save constant annoyance from FM07 08 and 09

I agree with Swisso. Surely this is something that could be implemented.

The thing I hate about some smaller nations is that when they go into a big international tournament (e.g. The World Cup) If you have a smaller db, don't have retaintion of some nations, or if you don't use a DDT file then some of the smaller nations from Africa or Asia will have a bunch of grey players for the squad ... This could be implemented by putting an option in the start up screen next to the "retain players from nations:" and have a checkbox called "retain random generated players for national team". I could even see this option expanded to make other small nations manageable for nations with less than 150 players. Something like a "Make all nations manageable" or "Make the following nations manageable" and let the user select the nations (kinda like the retain players from nations option)

Part of the fun of a career game is international management, or at least watching the international football world play out over World Cups and continental competitions over the years. Sometimes in my career games, I like to wander from club to club, but have a long-term relationship with a national team; sometimes vice versa. Providing ample international opportunities would be great. Something like what Phantom1998 is suggesting makes that even easier.

I would like to be able to continue a saved game from FM 2009 in FM 2010. I don't know how difficult this would be to implement but i think it would be great for all those players that usually start a game and reach seasons like 2050 or so.

7. Improving Graphics

First of all, bring back the kits to the match screen. I don't care if they conflict with the 3d kits shown in the 3d match engine and I don't care if the kits I added are pink and the other ones are green. The easiest solution would simply be making them as separate identities and maybe adding an easy way of adding/changing colours, without any template editing, or coding. Until the 3d match engine will show everything crystal-clear, I am quite sure the lack of sponsors on the moving shirts wouldn't effect anyone. I am finding it really hard to understand the reason behind the inability to co-exist between a freaking image and something animated. Kits used to be an important part of our "community" and eventhough we still see artists around, SI basically made their work useles.

Tease our eyes a bit and improve the 3d match engine a bit. Some hate it by default, some say it's ugly. Well, I think it has lots of potential and it could well turn out into something magnificent. Add some stadium art and some simple supporters, maybe jumping around. Coding something like that is not hard at all and I am quite sure the requirements wouldn't be increased with a big amount. I would also like some more type of stadiums added. Currently we have 2. A big one and a small one. Adding legendary stadiums like the Camp Nou would add loads to the gaming experience, especially for people who actually care.

6. Spice to Multi-playing

Don't get me wrong, I don't dislike the current system, even though I rarely use it. I think it serves it's purpose, but there is so much unexploited potential.. How cool would be if my Napoli in 2014 could actually battle Cartman's 2010 Villareal? Maybe my 2015 Amkar against Ali's German national side? I know that there are some arguments against this, like FM knowledge being a process and not just the form of your players in one match, but I really think this could be done. With the current tactical system, you will be more successful if you tweak your tactics for every match and in every match. It's harder to win a single match, therefore this interactive multi-playing experience could actually work.

We could actually create tournaments for us, to test our skills and our teams. Our team is something we created, therefore it could be a nice test of our scouting and business skills. My team is better than yours would no longer be something which cannot be tested. On the other hand, real FM could also have a similar playing mod to FMLive, but until that product is on the market, I am sure we won't see that and we will need to pay for it. We can always dream though..

5. Recording System

We already have a topic about this, but this is really something I would love to see. Recording goals, matches is pretty damn hard these days and this is a real curse for lazy people like me, but people who actually want to show their achievements to others, in order to interact with other FM loving members. Not sure whether SI will ever do this, but it would add a new dimension to the community and would single-handedly revive the old and unpopular Goal of the Month/Week competitions. Imagine a goal being saved by one click and uploaded to youtube by another. Youtube would be filled with people from the scene and by becoming popular, we could actually advertise the game and our sites to others, who never been on an FM site.

SI could use this for comercial purposes too, but as once, someone who is now in Greece said, they are too stupid for it. Another thing I have been thinking about, related to this of course, is a possible ability to easily create a compilation, or a resume of your match. You press a button and your goals are shown automatically, without being forced to search for them manually. This, alongside the recording would yet again open up new mines for us to exploit. Rate my Match, Match of the Week or Show me Your last Match. Maybe a Match of the Day, FM style? Ha, I'm touching myself over this..

4. Pre-Season

Again, an interesting subject that has been debated here on LW. It has all started with a topic about pre-season tournaments.. They don't get enough attention and they are seriously neglected. At least in my opinion they are. Why can't I created the Perm version of the Amsterdam Tournament? I freaking want to! I would call it Cupa Perm and would invite all the best Eastern teams. Of course, in theory I could do this every year, but no one would give a damn about it. It would just be another pre-season tournament, created by a human manager, with no history and of course no interest from the media, therefore no interest for big teams. Something similar goes for tours. In real life MU or Real get loads of attention for going to China and we even know what did Ronaldo have for breakfast. In FM you just go. Play. Return.

Another thing related to pre-season is the lack of options regarding pre-season training. I don't create my own schedules, but I do have a few set out for some of my key players. I don't know much about training and I don't even know what does the "Assistant to handle training" option does. All I know is that I don't have a seperate schedule for pre-season and I think that would almost be as important as one for GK's. In real life we hear about teams visiting the mountains to gain stamina and similar things. What can we do on the other hand? Get off every player from the schedules they were assigned to, put them on the one created by us, called "Pre-Season". Wait 2 months. Add players back. I know what Caesar would do with his thumb now..

3. Interact here, Interact there, Interact everywhere!

A subject which is a broader than the previous ones, I think. I want more interaction. I want more interaction with players, with my boardroom, with other managers and with nosy journalists too. For example the press conferences are really bad the way they are. You get asked the same questions 4 times a month and sometimes you need to tell the journalists 3 times that you won't freaking answer that question! I would love more questions and a bigger spotlight on journalists. If you already met one of them, they will actually memorize you and know what will you answer and what will you just gently skip. If you have been rude with one of them, you could even read it in next day's newspaper. Now that would be cool..

Interacting with the board now. They say what can you do and you listen. They say you can't do anything, you don't do anything. This is another subject which was already discussed here on LW and I know that some of you don't agree, but I think it could work out quite well. You tell the board you need a new staff member, give reasons, then they give. You promise that rather than finishing 5th, you will get a podium and suddenly, they come more understanding. Other things would be like asking them to let you scout in more places. You show them the money, they praise your name and stop being cocks. Also, how cool would it be, if you could ask them for the requirements for a new stadium, for example? "When will you build me a new stadium?" "When you'll get 200mil in balance." "Ktxs"

2. Dynamic League Reputation

Something that many disagree with. Does not matter, I want it. Again, I am not here to discuss whether a country like Romania could became the biggest footballing nation in the World. Probably not in the next 50 years. Then again, a club like Steaua won't win the UCL either in real life. In the game it might. The thing I am questioning is the effect of a club's success to the reputation of the league and it's representation in FM. If in real life a Romanian club would win the UCL, wouldn't big names go there? Maybe not at first, but what if this team would actually start dominating World football and would bring in loads of money to the country, therefore other teams would become big too? I think SI are exaggerating a bit with all the precautions put into the game, to stop these nations becoming too big and I think I won't change my mind even if my theory gets no support from any of you too.

Of course, we can also consider that FM and SI are spot on with their idea. Why so strict then? The fact that when managing in small leagues, you will probably never be able to get the biggest stars, is something that puts many people off managing there. Everywhere we can see people managing in England, or in other top leagues, but we rarely see games from Hungary or Croatia for instance. Let's face it, people like winning and if SI gives a damn about the usage of these leagues, then something should definitely be done to help people manage great success in these countries. I am not saying that things should be made much easier, as they shouldn't. I just think that some brakes should be left a bit softer..

1. Revamp the Youth System

My biggest wish. Add more to our youth.. Youth development is not what it could be and I think it needs a serious revamp. I wouldn't want to talk about the way I feel about the current system, as I already did so in "Using Children: Bad?" , I just want to express some of my wishes regarding this aspect of the game.

First of all, youth academies are way too unused. In real life every respectable big club has a few of these in South America and in Africa. It gives you a status you know, a reputation. I think this should definitely be introduced to FM. One day the board would announce that they are building an academy in Costa Rica and next season you would get 2 decent Costa Ricans at your team. Then in Kuala Lumpur, etc.. This could also indicate the improvement of a club and for example, if you are a small-ish club at the beginning of the game, you get some money and build an academy in Brazil, you would already be considered as a World Class team. I am not expecting to be able to build these myself, I just want them to be more important in the economy of FM.

More youth teams and more youth leagues.. This is something we have recently discussed and to be honest, I really like the idea. Why shouldn't teams have more youth teams? U14, U15, all up to U19. Not sure whether this has some legal obstacles in front of it, but seeing 15 years old players in FM makes you think not. Even if you won't have teams for each of these age categories, why couldn't we have something like the trial day, but for youths. Every season, there is a weekend where youngsters play. Greyed out players at first, but the better ones could actually turn into real ones and if clubs have scouts sent there, they could actually get some of the good stuff. Something very related to this and to my 2nd wish, is a country arranging leagues like this, even though they have none at the start of the game. For example, Romania wants to start leagues like this in the near future. Why shouldn't they do it in FM too?

Wouldn't it add to the realism of the game if you could instruct your players to choose to play towards your own supporters in the first or second half (depending on what you prefer) after the coin toss, therefore slightly influencing your team's motivation?

When my team Feyenoord play at home for example, they always choose to play towards their own supporters in the second half, therefore having a small advantage during the second half.

Just a minor detail though. It's not the most important thing in the world.

I'd like for you to be able to set a transfer status to "reject lower offers". atm you can only have "reject lower, but accept equal".
Would be so minor and easy, but I would really appreciate it, as I like to decided whether to accept any bid, but filter out the ridiculously low ones.

I would like an options to scout players at once in a kind of 'hold down 'S' and click on the players names and it will automatically scout the players.

In doing this I can select 10 players from a search list and do not have to click on each player individually (if that makes sense).

Also, when the game starts the pitch is always on display on the screen. I would like the beginning of the game screen to reflect the end of the last game. So if I have a slit view (with no 2D/3D match selected) it will not show the pitch at the start of the game.

Player Interaction:

This really needs looking at imo. It's so irritating, when your player becomes unhappy, and the only way to address it is through interviews with the media. Any manager would take a discussion with a player feeling "treated unfairly" or "dissillusioned". Why is it not possible to say e.g. "Iwant to see the team improve to match your ambitions" or "you're in my first-team plans" directly to a player, without going through the media?

Even commenting on a players performance is to the media rather than the player himself. Obviously both options should be possible.

Would defo like a "manager's player of the year" award. We should choose our own player of the year. IRL clubs have a fans award, a players' player award and a manager's award for who is the player of the year at a club. They could all come together, and as a news item say how at the club awards evening, who got what awards.

You can already do this by holding down either control or shift while selecting the players.

Shift - Hold down and select the first & last player you want to highlight to create a group then right click on the group and select your option.

Control - Hold down and select multiple random players from a list then right click and select relevant option.

I'd really like to be able to add managers jobs to my shortlist so you can get updates if the job comes available. Just like if you have a player on your shortlist you get to know if he becomes available, refuses a contract or if someone else goes for him.

People may have mentioned most of these, but here's some things I haven't seen mentioned:

Improved staff search: you can't shortlist them, there aren't many parameters you can filter - it wouldn't be much effort to make it a little more extensive (or alternatively, to make the job centre worth using).

The ability to play a training match: when I want to try out new tactics, or to see what my players do in certain situations, I have to arrange a friendly against my U18s. Like IRL, I should be able to split my squad, play 20 mins of a match to see how a new formation pans out, and then wrap it up before my players get tired or injured.

Some interactions stuff: there seems to be little impact that I as a manager can have on a player's development. If he thinks himself too good to be mentored, I pretty much have to put up with his attitude - there should be the option to have words with young players, set them straight if possible. Some players have always been and will always be difficult, but Giggs, for instance was not so professional until Ferguson intervened. In short, we shouldn't only be able to comment on a player's on-field performance, but also on how he does in training etc.

Favoured personnel should actually be friends: if my CM really likes my CB, it's weird that my CB doesn't also have my CM on his favoured personnel list.

There should be the sense that things are happening without my instigation: for example, Fletcher of Man utd says that he always really respected and wanted to be like Roy Keane - and he modelled his work ethic on him. Keane always used to slag off Fletcher and Richardson and clearly didn't like them. Nevertheless, his position as captain made him a default mentor, in effect, to the younger players - my senior players should likewise have an effect
(so that teams like Arsenal, without experienced influence, might suffer, unless they have very professional youngsters)

Basically, players are together all the time: they shouldn't only learn habits, good or bad, off the players that you direct them to, they should be learning off each other all the time.To go back to the Giggs example - he was great friends with Lee Sharpe, who wasn't very professional and was leading him astray - one of the reasons Lee Sharpe was sold. Perhaps a "really looks up to [older player]"/"spending a lot of time with [contemporary]" feature, with the same effects as mentoring of mental stats (not PPMs necessarily).

Players that don't get along can still play together: Gallas and Toure hate each other, Yorke, Cole and Sherringham didn't get along (everybody loves Solsksjaer). If they are professional, they should be able to play despite dislike

Training ground bust-ups shouldn't be the first that I hear of trouble. If I have a good hands-on rating, then I should be able to nip this stuff in the bud, spot potential trouble.

In short, we should know more about our players mentally, and to be honest, probably less about the mentality of players we don't own - you could probably spot a model professional from seeing him train, but until you've seen him in a big match, how do you know if he'll crumble or not?

I should be able to avoid controversial signings - I know that Bellamy would probably have a high controversy stat: I should also know if a regen has a high controversy stat: the whole point of controversy is that it gets people talking - I should be able to see that stuff coming, and decide whether to take a gamble.
There's nothing worse than siging a player who turns out to be an ass that the fans hate.

About this point;

Favoured personnel should actually be friends: if my CM really likes my CB, it's weird that my CB doesn't also have my CM on his favoured personnel list.

That isn't always true. Theo Walcott may love Thierry Henry and want to be like him, but Henry may find him an annoying little suck up.

Two things I would like:

1. Being able to interact with your chairman like you can with players, and having him interact with you as this happens with real managers a lot.

2. Being able to copy and paste player attributes in text form. If I want to tell my friend on MSN about this great youngster i just found, I don't want to have to make a screenshot and send it which can take time, I just want to show him stats quickly.

In the real word, a director of football can be appointed to be a manager. If we can see this feature in FM2010?

When we begin a new game, several friendlies have been arranged. We have to manually cancel them if we dont like them. I really miss what FM 2006 did, that is no friendlies exits at the very begining of the game.

How about Players that are up themselves not mentioning any names... christiano.. come back to the squad hotel late from a night out on the town etc and you have to deal with all that crap. Just alot more media and team talk options I think is only really needed weve had the exact same team talk options since 06. Also improve the 3D match and an option to change the graphics settings on the 3d for the slower computers.

I think the comparing of players need to be expanded. I suggested a visual comparison of attributes (with training exercises using the match engine) in a separate thread. Also, I think we should be able to compare several players or the whole squad to see where your overall team strengths and weaknesses are.

For example, say I want to see how good my four strikers are in the air. I would then be able to pick my four strikers, and choose to summarize for attributes "Heading" and "Jumping". I might get a result like this for my mediocre 2nd league team:

Heading: 35/80
Jumping: 28/80
Total: 63/160

That way I can easily and in a summarized form see that my strikers stink at these attributes and need to train more on them.

Also, include a "traffic light"-system for the attributes with a gradual color code of red-orange-yellow-green to reflect the skill in each attribute. That would make it easier to see what your player is good/bad at a glance...

I have no idea if this has been posted, (i havent gone through all 40 odd pages) but on a personal level I am getting annoyed with the league cup as being a so called "big" team I don't want to play my first team (gives my youth players a chance to shine and get first team experience). I think we're all agreed on the media needing overhauling, however I would like to see the following tweak.

When there is a major international championship (World or European) I'd like to see a media item like this.

"You have been invited by a national TV station to comment on the Group Stage/Second Round/Quarter Final (etc) clash between x and y. Will you accept?

It'd be like scouting a match as you'd have to watch it then say what you thought at the end.

Perhaps along the same lines, if you scout a game, you get interviewed as to why you were there (I was running the rule over future transfer targets/opposition/just out for a game)

There are so many things i would like to see :P

- More influence and an expansion with team talks and maybe ingame shouting during the game.
- Shouting tactical hints to your players in the match or motivate them. Now players get nervous or complacent and we as managers just sit there en be pretty
- For the true realists an option to turn off the player and staff search option so the only way to get players and staff is the hard way
- A way to pay exact amounts and not only 25k or 50k but for LLM every penny counts.
- That you can tell a young player he is bought for the future. Now they get cranky after half a season, dont want to go on loan and the board describes him as a terrible buy
- Make it known to your own board you wont extend your contract. Now they just keep offering you a new contract. even when you decided to join another one :P
- More options in player communication like 'Start performing or ill drop you' 'Get your act together'
- More training options. Now you get a report once a month. I want more details about the training. Who made progress and who was picking the daisies on the pitch. Give us more to work with.
- Team talks for subs
- A way to tell possible new signings what your intentions are. For examble 'We want to build a team around you the next few years' That way Robinho signed for City

I'm a fan of including lower leagues into the game, right down to Step 6. I know there are issues on number of leagues and research and such, but I wouldn't even mind if my local club (Redhill - in the Sussex County League) didn't even have correct player names, it'd just be really nice to be able to take over as manager there and see how far I can take them (Maybe even reach the FA Cup 1st round!!)
As for too many leagues, I also wouldn't mind getting rid of half the leagues currently available, I NEVER start a game in any country other than England and sometimes another UK country.
How about releasing an "Upgrade" or separate disc for the rest of the pyramid?

Hey all

I know its a bit early and we wont hear anything official from SI yet but i think its about time to start discussing. What do people think we need for FM2010? What needs to be tweaked? What needs to be added? What could SI spring as the one/two stunning new features they tend to add each year (3D last year for example)?

My thoughts so far (will add more over the next few hours/days/weeks but keep suggesting):

3D engine - was a really good start but it still has a long way to go, hopefully this will be stepped up this year
Press conferences - didnt quite come off, for me, i tend not to use them. I hope this could be improved. More variety would certainly be nice.
Assistant Managers - nice ideas but again didnt really come off in 09, would love to see this feature expanded (partly because i find 09 much much harder than previous games and its nice to have a balance between difficulty and potential for success through hard work)
League/World View - Not quite sure what can be done about this, but I've noticed that unless you want to spend hours trawling through match reports or worse still watching every game in every league, you have a very sketchy view of what's going on outside your team, and more still outside your league - perhaps more reports on who is playing really well, who perhaps is underperforming, big things that are going on in the world of footy? (e.g. this season IRL - the surprise performances of Aston Villa who did so well for the first half of the season and the players who did well there, Stoke City's overachieving etc.). Also could be good for teams lower in a league who are looking to buy new players, perhaps from the league below (e.g. Beattie for Stoke this season IRL...).

Any thoughts from anyone?

Overhaul the media aspect of the game. Introduce better questions or scrap it completely. Simply being able to say thats not something i particularly agree with to a comment you want to answer much more extensively is something that really bothers me in press conferences.

Would be good if you could ask the players at your club more questions about there mood. Example , keane goal drought you can say dont worry mate you wwill score soon etcc. If a player is left out of the international squad you can go on record and criticise the decision or say that if he keeps playing well he will get it. If a player has interest from other clubs you should be able t sit down in a meeting wiith him and say do you want to go? or i wont stop you oving in the hnext transfer window but please stick it out til then etc.....

All these media aspects should be able to effect morale just like current ones.

Confidence still not quite right needs improving

Next point is about interest. Alot of my games i end up getting most of my team wanted by other clubs and then about 100 bids come in every trannsfer window . Its too much in my opinion. Furthermore if you stop a transfer by getting the player to secure a new deal. then that coontract should mean alot more than just preventing the player from wanting to leave in that transfer window. One example of this is when i offered corluka a new 4 year big contract he was happy in january then wanted to leve in june.

In general something needs to be done about players wanting out too much. Especialially when they are at a successful club anyway. Perhaps the balance of player ambition is a bit iffy at times i do not know the cause personally, but tweeked it would be better.

Training is an area ive always wanted to see overhauled. Ithink that it should be more difficult to do right but offer great reards when done so. I think that we should be able to use a mouse and pointers or slide players about on a 2d pitch to simulate set pieces if u see what i mean. I want to be able to tell king to play a screen on the defender on the penalty spot freeeing up space where he came from for woodgate to swivvle into.

I think that tactically the game is very very good. That is not to say it could be better. Am unsure whether or not i miss the side arrows as it did help with narrow formations off the ball and wide on. This is something that does hapen in football but it cannot be replicated on the game. Setting wide , to me only effects the amount of goals you score or conceed not the shape of your team.

Id love some commentary and better stadium sounds. (dreaming)

Id like to see more goals from corners and set pieces

Dont like the way the computer always gets one more chance to attack late on but that is good i guess coz otherwise id win too many matches ;)

Oh also when you get a great result away from home in say the chmps league then you go home play a similar style but maybe have two up top and give fullbacks more freedom you somehow lose 5-0 . Crazyness

Hello Everybody,

After many years on this forum of just 'viewing from the sidelines' I have finally plucked up the courage to make one little suggestion for future versions of FM that may improve the gameplay experience somewhat. I would like to see a review of the way that every action you take, no matter how trivial, requires confirmation.

I hope that you know what I mean? For instance when you want to add a player to your shortlist or make a new contract offer to one of your coaches. It's like when you confirm to your mum that maybe yes you would like sugar on your cornflakes today, and she asks you earnestly 'are you absolutely sure about that?', like whatever your decision is may have some Earth-altering effect. I feel that is all just a little over the top and that the following are three alternatives that might improve this aspect of the UI:
* Remove the confirm prompts completely and replace them with an "Undo" option for any time you make a screw-up (only where the action can be 'undone' of course !).
* Include a 'Configure Confirmations' screen in Preferences where the player can decide which of all the actions he/she wants to have to confirm and which he/she doesn't, e.g. maybe you feel that you don't want to have to confirm everytime that you want to extend the time a player remains on your shortlist so you would untick this option, but maybe you do want to have to confirm every time you make an offer to buy a player so you would leave that option ticked. This way you can customize the game to 'flow' more how you want it to.
* A combination of the two: customization of the confirm options with the 'undo' option for hastily made or erroneous button-clicks. For what it's worth this would be my personal choice if I had any say in the matter which of course I don't so hardly worth mentioning then really was it?! ahem.

Anyway that's my tuppence worth: not in any way connected with the actual gameplay, but I hope that it would help players enjoy the game just a little bit more in the future.

Cheers!

Good call there, that would save me a lot of time IMO. I'd go for the "UNDO" option rather than a complicated routine of confirming some things but not others.

Expanding on the point of telling a new player you mean to build the team around him, I'd like for you to be able to - providing your board trust you enough - ask the board to perhaps take out a loan to provide funds for a big signing. You could say that you mean to mould the team around him and it is crucial you can afford him. Would be a great touch if you're a mid table side

1) better use of assistant manager, e.g. reports to you every week saying how training is going, general morale of the team, tactical suggestions etc basically to have a better relationship with your assistant like in real life.
2) to make the board more intelligent e.g. when you ask to expand the stadium and they expand it by 45 seats, bit of a joke really and also when they say the council wont allow planning permission then they take out a loan and build a new one etc
3) for the board to be more involved with transfers e.g. you have to communicate with the CEO to go and negoiate a transfer with a players agent and you send him a wishlist. this is exactly what happens in real life. Plus for the chairman to buy players without your permission every now and then like Abramovich did with Shevchenko, SI did do this is Champ Man but have taken the feature away but i would like it to come back!
4) to have a 3d stadium option for expanding the stadium so you can see what it looks like and maybe have the option to choose what stands to put it, this could be a brilliant new feature that is a lot of fun!
5) the board are aloud to take out a loan for a new player to make sure you get him and not another club
6) being able to talk to a player you hope to sign to tell him what your plans are for the club and where he fits in with those plans
7) an overhaul of press conferences as they are completely useless and very annoying and also repetitive
8) being able to communicate with players better and more options to do so not just 5 options to tell them they are playing bad or good
9) the whole business aspect of the game sucks, football is not just about football anymore, its a business and needs to be ran properly therefore a revamp on the business/finances section needs to be done
10) the ability to design new kits or have a say in a new kit design

how many away fans attended the game

Simple idea:

ROLLING STATISTIC SUMMARY

Basically, sums up any statistics of note. Could be placed anywhere but I think it would be good if it appeared while the game is processing (rather like the 'hints') and also on the news screen or somewhere by the inbox.

Could include the following examples of team stats:
St. Albans City have won 23 points out of the last 36
... not won at home for 3 games
... not scored away for 2 games
... only have one win in 6
... have not won for 5 games
etc. etc. etc.

Then for players, it could be the following examples:
Paul Hakim has the best strike rate in the team this season, with a strike rate of 0.53.
Ben Martin has played the most amount of minutes for the Saints so far this season, playing for a total of 1890 minutes.
Jonathan Hunt has converted 2 out of 2 penalties this season so far.
Gary Cohen has picked up the most amount of yellow cards, having been booked 4 times so far this season.

Then perhaps even a miscellaneous rolling summary too, with information such as:
St. Albans have used a total of 30 players in the league so far this season.
The Saints have kept 3 clean sheets so far at home this season.
The highest attendance at Clarence Park so far this season was 623 against Chelmsford City.
The lowest attendance at CP so far this season was 373 against Thurrock.
The average attendance this season so far is 482.
A total of 5,305 fans have attended games at CP this season.

Even an overall league version might be good, with information such as:
Any hat-tricks scored so far that season. Or penalties, missed penalties, own goals etc.
The number of games won by one goal or some such obscure but interesting stat.
Average attendances.
Recent sequences by other teams in the division.

My other idea is for:

GOAL TIME DISTRIBUTION

Essentially, a graph split up into segments for each half and showing when during the game goals are being scored, conceded or both.

If it was possible perhaps to include a stat such as this in the game that would be rather good and could also feed into the rolling stats summary with information such as:
St. Albans have scored most of their goals just after half-time this season.
St. Albans have a habit of conceding goals just before half-time so far this season.

Just thought I would throw these ideas out there. All of this would just add a bit of colour to the game and provide something interesting to read whilst processing. It would mean that some of these interesting or obscure statistics were available in clear English without the user having to make an effort to find that particular stat out. It might provide some moments of amusement that the user might have otherwise missed.

So, in other words, an accessible rolling summary which translates interesting statistics about your team, players, league &etc. into English as an interesting fact to read.

Little addition to player interaction: Option to negotiate about the player's future in team. I suppose in IRL it happens quite often that the player and the manager sit down and talk about the future. This could be in a way where you make "road maps" together with the player. You tell him that "You have 3 years left in your contract. In the following season I'm going to loan you out, then if all goes well, you're going to be a backup to first team, and on the third year you're going to be a first team regular."

Sounds:

* The crowd sound should be different depending on the level of the game. If you play with an obscure team in a lower league game it should be eerily quiet. The top games should be incredibly noisy.

* More songs, drums and other fan sounds

* If the away team scores a goal it should become quiet, and some booing and catcalls

This is an enormous thread so if someone from SI Games is still reading this far then well done!

I think massively-multiplayer games would be a great addition, in the mould of OOTP Baseball. Instead of having to arrange lots of people to be online at the same time, you all do your team lineups, transfer offers etc offline, then send in your updated files by a certain deadline and the league commissioner sims ahead the next week/few days or whatever is agreed.

Obviously this would need a few changes to the format, e.g. games would only played on Saturday / Wednesday, and each 'Continue' takes you from Sat to Wed without pausing for manager interaction in between. Assistant Manager would have to control matches, but you could leave in-depth instructions for him, for example "If losing after 80 minutes change to All-Out Attack".

I appreciate SI have tried to address this with FM Live, but for me the addiction to FM has always been the realism, so I'm not really interested in creating FC Polar Bear with Ronaldo & Messi up front and playing a bunch of friendlies against other randoms. Playing in a league where all 92 English league teams are human-controlled would be great fun. SI could make a bit of money by hosting the leagues themselves and charging each manager as they do with FM Live.

tweak the options when if i chose to go on holiday if i was testing a tactic.you only get the option to choose "current" tactic.which kind of comes unstuck if i'm playing an attacking tactic at home and a more controlled one away.

Not have to reputation of players decrease so drastically, or even at all, as they get older. David Beckham is a classic case in point; his rep drops to a meagre Continental just a few months into the game.

* Attributes should be from 0-100 for a better scope between lousy and brilliant players

* If you hover over an attribute with the pointer, you should get a tooltip explaining the attribute

* If you hover over an increase/decrease in attribute, you should get an explanation why the value has changed, and the exact numerical value

Just a random idea...
At a World Cup or European Championships etc. you should be able to be invited to a TV show like MOTD then have questions put to you like the press conference way! What you think?

Right, this is going to be a mighty long posts, so prepare yourselves. I’m going to divide this post into several sections, so I will start off with the less important and gradually build by way up to the suggestions I feel would make the biggest impact.

Section I:
A.
Club Customisation

Yeh, so, clubs in real life have agreements with different sponsors and businesses to bring in money for things like kits and facilities. Well, I think it’d be a cool idea to be able to agree different deals with different companies so that we could change our income. As a result, we’d be able to decide how much goes into different areas of the club. I’m not sure it’d work really well, and I’m positive I haven’t made myself clear, but I think it could work well as a minor adjustment to the club and its funding.

B.
Secondly, club kits. Once every 5 – 10 years, the club is going to need a slight adjustment to the kits, and, as the manager, I feel the board would take the managers creativity and artwork very seriously. J Anyway, designing club kits or adjusting them slightly would probably make more money, due to fans wanting new kits and such.

Section II:
A.
Press Conferences

Just a short one. More questions in press conferences and a bigger variety of coice of words for questions. I don’t want Bill Chamberlain from BBC news saying exactly what Bob Samsy from the News of the World said last week about a different match. It minorly ruins the continutity of press conferences and you get the feel you’re In a time warp every time you go to one. Personally, I see press conferences as one of the most fun parts of the games, and I feel this is the only addition it needs.

Section III:
A.
Player Interaction

Currently, there is only a limited amount of things you can say to a player. These things range from “I hate your recent performances” to “Are you sure you’re not a reincarnation of Jesus? Because that’s how you’re playing”. I want to say more things, like, “Play well or you’re dropped”, or “Make sure you do well next game”. Things like that. It adds more deph to the game.

B.
Next, I think you shouldn’t have to say things in front of the press about a player. Sir Alex Ferguson doesn’t go to a press conference and say, “Rio, I am very disappointed with your recent performances”. Ferguson would speak with the player privately. But, and I think this was a feature on FM Handheld, you should have the option of saying it in public or in private. This would affect the impact of what you say.

Section IV:
A.
Manager Profile Screen

I take my manager profile very seriously, indeed I do. But I don’t want it to vary much from other managers. I want to select different people as my favoured personnel, I want to have the opportunity to do that. I also want to be able to put my full name on the manager profile screen, rather than just my first and second name. It’s these tiny things that make your profile more accurate.

B.
Secondly, a new addition to the manager profile screen I feel would work well. A rivalry section, where rivals and people the manager isn’t fond of are listed. As a result, they would be seen bickering via press conferences and such.

Section V:
A.
Youth Setup Interaction

In what could turn out to be absolutely useless or unbelieveably useful, I want to be able to interact with the very young talent, the players under the age of 14. There has been no interaction with that side of the game. I want to be able to attend a game between the local junior teams. Eg; the Whitby Boys U12 squad vs the Shaunby Boys U12 squad. This means we can gurantee future prospects and bring them into the youth setup. We could also assign scouts to go to such matches.

Section VI:
A.
Reserves and U18 Management

It’s something I’d really, really love. The opportunity to manage the Reserves and U18’s of a club, rather than manage the first team, too. Eg; say you are unemployed. The manager of a low-profile club may approach you to lead the U18’s to glory. If you have a better reputation, a higher-ranked club may ask you to become their Reserves coach or something like that. That way, we could build our way up through the clubs managing ladder. Of course, we could still be offered the role of manager, but also coach of U18’s and Reserves.

Section VII:
A.
Tactics

Not much to suggest, really, except a few things for Player Instructions and something to do with forward runs. So, first off, for Players Instructions, I think we should be able to tell our players how wide they should play. Eg; if we want to bring our wingers inwards and put our central midfielders to the sides.

B.
Now for Forward Runs. If I remember rightly, in FM08 you could make players run to certain areas, which was removed in FM09 for forward, mixed and backward runs. I don’t think this new idea was very good. I much preferred the prospect of central midfielders running back diagonally, or wingers running into the center. It added more depth and control to the tactics.

Well, thanks for reading. Got to go massage my hands now that they’re old and crippled. SI, please consider my suggestions carefully, because I’ve thought really hard about them. :) Thanks.

I would like to have a facility to highlight players in my squad.

For example; I have a load of youth players I want to play every now and again, and a load of old and past it players just in my squad to make up the numbers. It would be nice to highlight all the youth players in one colour, and the old players in another, this way I can see at a glance who I want to play. The facility could be used for many other reasons, I just feel that I would use it for that reason. (ie: when a player is on loan/trial etc he is a different colour, I would like a few extra colours that I could specify players being to highlight them to me).

Hope that makes sense, would love to see it. Yes I know you might argue I could just check the ages/stats/info or simply remember the name, it'd just be nice to do it at a glance. (Especially in a foreign league with similar player names and many regens.)

I think this is a great idea!! and would love to see it in FM2010!

Like others have said, its really annoying when an 18 yr old wants a lot of first time action even when the player starting in his position is a lot better than him (Kroos, Sniejder). And, again like others have said, in the Spanish Super Cup, the board and fans should be fine if I play my 2nd team.

When setting Manager Experience, you have limited options with daft outcomes.

EG: If I select the past experience of a Professional Footballer, I could be anything from Steve Bruce to Mickey Lewis and FM will always give me a reputation of 6000. And an Ex-England International could be anything from Alan Shearer to Anthony Gardner.

It'd be nice to have your own player history (with multiple clubs) at a level of your choosing and the ability to choose your own manager reputation to suit the game you want to play.

i must say i would love the whole manage a u18/ reserve side to get your reputation up.
but the thing is on fm09 reputation plays a massive part ie stoke and hull ALWAYS go down so obviosly you cannot judge how good a side will be but looking at their players etc could help. also it would be good to see things like boardroom arguments which affect your team ie hicks vs gillet or ashley wise and lambias vs kevin keegan

Taking the backroom staff with you seems very good feature, not revolutionary but will fix having to getting a whole new backroom staff roster every move. I also think should be part of the contract negotiations so like basically when I get moved to a new club I try to cancel contracts of all the dead wood but some of them get blocked because of too much money to pay. So in orignial contract negotiations:

Sign for this much.
Sign for this long.
Take backroom staff yes/no.
How much budget you get.
Expectations now, 3 years, 10 years.
Key players the club wants you to get or if they want to be stingy with money.

What about it? Am I being ********?

this is just a thought, but why not have the board messing with team affairs like telling you to play a certain player or certain formation (which has supposedly happened at qpr), and you can either roll over and oblige or you can give the board an ultimatum to stop messing with team affairs which can end in several outcomes, they back down or they fire you etc etc

For international management: As it is now, there´s players who "sees no benefit" in gaining a 2:nd nationality. I´d like to see a feature under "Player interaction" where you can ask those players to gain that second nationality so you can add them to the national team.

For example: I have this really great uncapped swiss goalie in a MLS-team that would fit perfect in my Team USA, unfortunaly he "sees no benefit" to get that american passport.

i would like it, that when you sign youth players, the fans dont moan cause they havent played... so when signing a player potentially an option to stipulate when you expect him to properly make his 1st team, or an option to say "youth team player" etc... also the option to tell the fans/chairman that you will be playing a weak/youth team in certain games/cups etc...

probably has already been mentioned tbh...

Big clubs have scouts all over the world, bringing in youth to their academies, some how this could be a good feature, although I dont know how. Also when scouts bring back reports, have an option with, "this youngster might be a good investment to sell in a few years....

I would like to see some kind of fan response when selling a fan favorite, icon or legend. I mean if I took over Chelsea and sold Terry and Lampard I don't think the fans would be too happy with me no matter how many wonderkids I bring in. Signing good players affects the confidence level of the board and fans, selling good players should too.

I agree with that.Right now it doesn't appear to be any downfall for selling club icon.

I am sure if that there would be all kinds of downfall if someone tries to sell/release players like Maldini or Raul out of their clubs, for example. That should be better represented in FM somehow.

i think that if you had the option to request training camps to be built around the world e.g. you went in the board room tab and requested a new training camp to be built and the board came back and gave you a list of countries and you reccoment what country. like how you do with feeder clubs. this would then mean the whole scouting knowledge feature will have even more of a positive effectand it will help the whole scouting system and mean that youth will have more of a chance on the game.

* Official logos for each club in the game (not just the big ones)

* Nicknames for clubs mentioned in club info, example. Halmstads BK = HBK

* A red spot on a map indicates the geographical position of the club

* Graphical representation of the club stadium. Let´s make for example 20 different 3D-models for stadium from the tiny to the biggest in the world, and let these models represents the stadia for the clubs in the game. It would feel like more of an accomplishment if you manage to expand your tiny village stadium with 200 seats into a sprawling complex later on if we could actually see it!

Voice commentary!!! Performed by Andy Gray or any old person hired to read out the text! Now that would be revolutionary!
Would put SI right up there with Infinity Award, Rockstar...for ground breaking achievements.

Graphical Display of the club trophy cabinet at the end of each year.
Like other graphical aspects of the game (logo-packs, face-packs etc...) their could be the option to also create fan-made 'trophy-packs' to further enhance the displaying silverware.
Include other awards too with graphics such as golden boot of the year, Ballon d'Or' etc...

The transfer/contract page and system could do with a face lift.

A lot of wording throughout the game need's sharpening from team-talks to manager interactions.
'Kick over tea trolley' would maybe feel a bit more real then just clicking on 'Show anger at team'.
Manager interaction : A bit of Mourinho mischief, Ferguson mind-games, Rafa's 'fact' rants...wheres the wit and sense of humor!

At key stages of the season instead of just 'Title Race Hot's Up' how about an actual analysis of the season to that point? would make every season seem that much different.

I don't know if it's been mentioned but here's my big wish for FM10:

Tempo, width, time wasting & defensive line should be located directly on the match screen, so you can change them on short notice, without going into the team instructions in the tactics section. Also, team passing, team mentality and team closing down (team instructions) should be relative to the individual settings you've already given your players; if your FCd has got a mentality of 10 and your FCa has got 14, and you move team mentality two notches above normal, they should have mentalities of 12 & 16 respectively!

These small changes would help the tactics interface becoming a more pleasant experience. They way it's now, changing tactics takes really many clicks if you havent created multiple tactics beforehand.

This should be a fairly easy implemented change, that really makes the tactics (arguably the most important part of the game) easier to control. I'm not after making the game any easier in itself, only making it more accessible and user friendly.

The CM series used to have commentary - i believe it was Clive Tyldesley? - but it just gets too repetitive. One thing i would like to see is a more realstic player ratings system. Currently, the performance of your players seems to be too much based on previous performances - i know its only one factor but it seems too important. And yet the match engine has it so that a striker who has a stinker and is playing at, say, 5.4 until the 90th minute when he scores a penalty, often ends up with something like 7.6 which means he gets a boost for the next few games despite having had a total shocker. Needs looking at.

But yeah, the commentary is very unlikely to return any time soon - it just gets repetitive.

As you are all aware, there was much speculation of what team Alex Ferguson would pick to play against Hull in the last game of the season, Ferguson picked a capable side, but left out a few key players, now as we know, Villa beat Newcastle, but what if Newcastle beat Villa, and Hull beat this weaker United site, imagine the stick that Ferguson would get from all of the Newcastle fans, and it is very likely, that Newcastle boss Shearer would criticize Ferguson for his tactics.

I played with Millwall this year on FM, and won promotion with 6 games to go, one of my remaining games include Leeds away, but since i was still in the FA Cup, i wanted to rest all of my first 11. Leeds needed to win to keep their promotion chase alive, so when i fielded all of my youth team, Leeds not surprisingly ran out winners 3-1. Southend could do nothing about this, as they slipped down to third. Leeds eventually won promotion, by winning all of their remaining games. Now, southend also won all of their remaining games, so if i would of picked my strongest 11 (No boasting) i would of beaten or at least held leeds to a draw, this would of gave Southend promotion. The southend boss couldnt criticise my tactics, as this feature is not in the game. I would love to see this feature in the game, where managers, along with already being able to praise and criticise managers via the manager interaction link, be able to criticise managers tactics/squad selection for their previous game.

What do you think?

Updated odds.

My team is now on top of the leagues, unbeaten for last 13 games, winning 10 of it. And media prediction in information screen keep saying i will finish 9th. They even already doomed me on the ninth before transfer windows ends :D And my opponent alway get fav odds, eventhough i almost always win comfortably.

If only the bookies are as stupid as the AI.

- More leagues. Preferably lots of African ones and some of the more obscure European ones.

- Quicker regeneration of players in leagues that don't start with any (i.e. in unplayable leagues).

- Complete overhaul of player regeneration, with new crops of more balanced players better reflecting their real-life counterparts.

The ability to buy clubs with your earnt money! After a successful managerial career, you could retire and become chairman of a club you could afford to buy, and then appoint a manager or manage yourself.. This would of course make you unsaccable, and you would be in total control of the club..

And to people saying this can already be done in fifa manager or some other game, I want to do it with the real game, FM.

I think that the tactics interface could be improved. For the setpieces, I propose that you have the 2D-pitch and could manually place out the players where you want them to be in relation to the setpiece-taker. Also, you could with this interface give more detailed instructions to your setpiece-taker. For example, if freekicks are near penalty area, you want your freekick-taker to try to get it into the net. From a more distant angle, you could instruct him to aim a pass/cross to a player of your choice.

This interface could also be used when choosing man-marking. You have the two formations against each other on a 2D-pitch and could then click directly on the pitch on the opposing player you want to man-mark.

No need new features. Improves the existing one

a) Make the 3D match look better
b) Scouting and assistant report can improved
c ) Don't ask same question in press conference. The tactical approach should only been ask at the start of the seasons. Look at the team goals and conceded at the end of the seasons whether they follow the tactic they told at the start

How about FM introduce a feature whereby instead of player pictures you can get a graphical version of the back of their shirt? Surely it would be a good way for users to avoid downloading facepacks, and it would be better than a plain screen. It would surely be pretty easy to implement, and would mean i didn't have to get rid of Jordan Tabor from Chelsea on a free to avoid seeing his monstrous face! It would also mean that you don't go through your squad and see players in barcelona shirts etc when your playing in the premiership...

How about the option to go on a course to learn a new language? say for example I have been managing my whole career in england but decide that I want to go manage in france it would be good to be able to have an option to go on a course to learn french (or what ever language you require) you could have the media ask you a question about it matchday or a rumour appear that 'x' has been taking french lessons fueling reports he is primed to take over at 'french club with either no manager or underpressure manager', lots of ways you could go with it as well.

Imo its the little things that make a difference, my only other suggestion is that the media interaction is expanded, instead of 5 answers have say 7 options.

I would like input from my coaches on training schedules.
At the moment there is a lot of luck/trial and error to find a balanced schedule, I think if coaches could tell you what would work better it could make the training side of the game a lot less frustrating.
Thoughts?

Apologies if this has been suggested already, there is a massive amount of posts here and I simply don't have time to read all of them, but after skimming, I think these suggestions might be worthwhile:

I would love it if there were interviews with magazines and/or other media. It would really add depth to the media side of the game, that isn't there in Press Conferences. For instance if you are playing as a League One team, and you are building a team which is progressing nicely, perhaps a magazine might be interested in interviewing you etc. Similarly if your managing a big club, obviously you will be asked to do more interviews. It would be a nice feature if you were to get paid for such media appearances.

Similarly I think there should be the aim of broadening the depth of questions posed in press conferences. It can be a little tedious answering the same questions.

I'll post more when I think of them. I was just playing and I thought that maybe these additions to the media might make a little difference :)

This has probably been said, but i think it is is an essential feature.
I would love to interact with a potential signing at the contract stage - especially when 10 other clubs want the same player. Managing Luton, I constantly lose out to bigger teams when trying to buy or loan players. It would basically work like the press conferences, and we would tell the player where he would fit into the team (key player, rotation, bench-warmer, future star etc) why he should join us (challenging for promotion, european qualification for top tier, etc).
IRL many players would be happy to be a regular for a lesser team, rather than backup to a big team

Here in Greece, the former coach of AEK Giorgos Donis came out and said after he was fired 1/3 into the season that he had an impossible task, as he started the pre-season with a different squad than he ended it off with. Essentially what happened was that all the transfers of players in and out took place late, so 7 players he started off the campaign with were sold, and were replaced gradually taking up time all the way until the end of August.
Olympiacos was also late in making its key signings, and it probably cost them their lack of qualification to the Champions League group stages for the first time in 13 years.

If you observe now, squads want to make their key signings as early as possible, so the new signings can be part of the ENTIRE pre-season campaign, where a coach works on tactics, gets to know players etc. Thus, I would like somehow for managers who are astute and make their signings immediately upon the end of the season, before the next season starts, to have some sort of advantage, since technically they would have spent their entire pre-season with the squad, rather than have players come and go in between... Pre-season needs to be given a bigger emphasis and there should be some sort of added tactical bonus you can do during that period, where you watch the training and criticise players, offer them suggestions to change their playing styles etc.

I've been playing the cm/fm series since cm2-3 and I have to say I like how the game has developed since then. I think the including of the 3D match engine was a good thing, although I still stick to 2D classic.

Sub team-talks
1. As previously mentioned I'd like the ability to give instructions (team talks) to players being subbed and brought onto the pitch, like during half-time talks.

"Make available for reserve team"-option
2. I don't know if it's been mentioned before, or If I'm the only one struggling with it, but after installing the 9.0.3 patch, I suddenly lost the "Make available for reserves" option when right clicking my players. I remember it was an option with: Make available for reserves: 1) until match-fit
2) for 1 week
3) for 2 weeks
I'd also like a 4th option for players I'd like to have ready for a certain 1st team match, say I want Ronaldinho to be match fit to my match against Barcalona, then with that option you force the reserve coach to use him. Taking control of the reserve team takes too much time.

Now the only way to define which players will be set for the reserve team is through the newspost on the matchday of the reserves, which is extremely annoying.
Having a huge squad and only 18 selected players (11 field+7subs) means I have to first select my match lineup. Then press "Make selected players unavailable for reserve match" and "Make substitutes unavailable for reserve match." I also press "make all unselected players available for reserves."
Then I have to give the people in my A squad which I don't want to play either A or B squad match selections and go to the newspost again and press "make selected players unavailable for reserve match."

Some people might think "why not just let the players you're not gonna use in your first team match play your reserve match?" - Well, sometimes players are recovering from an injury (orange inj icon) and I want them to fully heal before being matched. Aswell as during tight match schedules I want several options on each position if injuries were to occur to key players.

Your own managerial stats
3. They just don't make any sense. I want to be able to compare myself to other managers. Financial control and club/player lojalty could still be there, but I want stats as other managers have. F.ex you could have working with youngsters read off your youth team and your youngsters/younger players. If they like you, the stats would be high. Social attributes, motivating and disciplin linked to how the team responds to team talks and comments to the media, tactical how your tactics work with the players etc.
And the other ratings from how well gk's and defending is from the training improvements of your players.

This way I feel it would be more interesting and easier to read off how you perform and where you could improve, when comparing yourself to rival managers.

Able to pick favorite players/clubs/staff during games
4. While players and staff bond and connect with eachother during the seasons, I think you as a manager should be able to make players and staff on the "Good relationship" tab.

Inspect contract offered to players waiting for transfer completion
5. During the start of the game I often find myself offering contracts to many players at the same time, and re-assuring yourself that you didn't offer a player a rediculous amount of money for sign on fee f.ex, could help out. Not a big issue just for overall feel of control.

I know theres more ideas I've thought of before but forgotten, but Its late and I'm getting ready for work so I'll have to edit/make a new post with the rest of my ideas.
If anyone bothered reading through please comment on the ideas, if I'm twisted or If I'm onto something.

Thanks for a great game

In light of the recent debates of Messi vs. Ronaldo etc etc, it got me thinking about how players are rated potentially in FM. The fact that if a player gets faster, it impacts on his ability to improve technically is pretty unrealistic. What if all players had 3 potential ability numbers, one for technical, one for mental and one for physical? That would allow for greater freedom with player creation.

I know the work to re-evaluate every player in the game would be colossal, I just wanted to see what other people thought of this.

I only play FM 06, so maybe this has been changed by now...

Can SI please obtain license from UEFA to use the actual names and logos of the tournaments? We should have "Champions League" and "UEFA Cup" instead of some invented "Champions Cup" ans "Euro Cup"...

If SI get license, maybe they can use the actual logos and that cool CL-intro with the impressive title song?

Also, the list of attributes are definietly a staggering and bewildering thing to overcome for a newcomer to the game, and SI definietly has made little effort to help.

My suggestion:

If you click on an attribute (for player or staff) in their profile, you will get a new screen, which contains:

* A picture with a simple graphical representation of the attribute (for instance, a player tackling for the "tackling"-attribute)

* An in-depth description of the attribute and its role in the game

* A classification of the attribute (based on the training categories already used in the game), for instance "composure" should be classed as "Mental, Attacking"

* An advice for which type of players or positions this attribute is essential for

Also, on the squad screen you should be able to pick out whatever stats you like and also summarize them borth horizontally and vertically. I might just want to pick my penalty-takers and sort out the attributes essential for this. Then I may want to summarize the stats for each player in these attributes to get an overall score. The vertical score would be useful for example to see how good your entire squad is at "stamina". You could then get an overall score for the entire squad, making it easier to see what your team must improve upon.

Also, in the training screen, it would be nice if the assistant manager had some advice on what your players should train on.

For example, you pick out your Attacking Midfielder, and your Assistant Manager will say something like:

"Player X has a lot of talent, and may develop into a potential playmaker. I suggest we focus on training tactics and ball control on this player"

another thing that i think needs to change is board takeovers, there too brief! a new feature should be brought in where some members of the board buy more and more shares in preperation for a takeover e.g. arsenal's situation atm. this would then give you extra funds and a realistic approach to how board members take over a football club. they take their time waiting for the right moment. plus another feature should be that every now and then shareholders put in money to help the club progress an example would be at sunderland with Short putting in an extra £50m to help with transfers. i think therefore adding this little feature to the game would add abit more realism. i know that there is a feature that when your bank balance is below a certain point then the chairman steps in and puts in £xm to bolster it but this is only for teams like man city. im saying that board members should be more active in board takeovers or just helping the club progress.

well, i'd like to see on new features of the game the possibility to be a player (with the possibility to be a coach/manager in the future), a simply coach (only turned to the tactics and training and including youth teams coach), a sporting director (only turned to the financial strategy of the team) and the both two that is what actually happens. it could be like a career that starts as player only having games and training sessions and answering questions to improve the mental atributtes. next, with the experience and graduations, the player could become a coach/sporting director/manager by choose.
the chairman/sporting director could also buy players by himself without consentiment of manager/couch having questions of press to warm up the relationship between them. (not my idea, but i liked)
it could also have a way to spend the money earned (on family or buing a team in case of earn too much money). (idem)
in case of the frame, tactics and market transfeers i've seen ideas that liked, but i don't have a based idea for that.

There are some great ideas on this thread however a lot fo them seem to be edging towards the fifa manager style, the whole reason I love Fm is because it isnt like Fifa manager.
I would love to see;
1 - youth camps all over the world like chelsea are doing in india now,
2 - more youth leagues maybe just under 16s and under 14s so you can watch players progress.
3 - Press conferences need more questions, i cant be bothered answering the same questions week in week out.
4 - When joining a new club being able to bring your backroom staff and setting short term and long term targets.
5 - Bring back board choices in players, i.e clubs will give you extra money for a big name signing and chairman bringing players in like at hearts.
6 - Players are happy to go on loan even if you have just bought them, especially if they are young players.
7 - Not have to be at a club for years to choose the type of feeder club you want.
8 - Tell players your view on their performances in private rather than blabbing to the papers.

On a side note I always wanted a game for the whole of the premier league, you start in 1992 and the players generate as they did in the real world. how cool would it be playing a couple years then being able to buy a 17 year old shearer for peanuts. Imagine the players you could manage at your favourite clubs, trying to keep cantona from retiring. the players would start at the clubs they originally did.

Just one off of the the top of my head. Players going through a scoring drought just happen to find their form against your team. Has happened 11 times this season to my team. Some of the players were going through as much as 10 hours of not scoring only to find the net against my team. The best one was Theo Walcott who hadn't scored in 13 hours, but no problems scoring 4 against me in the CL final. Perhaps this kind of thing should be toned down a bit, just a thought.

I haven't read all 40 odd pages so forgive me if I've repeated any suggestions here.

I think that the whole personality thing is a really good feature of the game and would ultimately like to see that expanded meaning that your actions can have long standing effects on what you can do in the game.

I'd like to see myself appearing as favored member of staff after taking the likes of Bristol Rovers to the Premier League - and possibly for this to be reflected with a rival side, such as Bristol City, hating me.

Much in the same way as modern managers take their coaching team with them when changing clubs I'd like to be able to do the same. This could provide opportunities to strengthen and weaken relationships with other members of staff. Similarly you could give your blessing to assistants taking over and your old club or taking a higher position elsewhere.

On a smaller note it would be nice to know how much compensation was paid for me when I take over elsewhere.

As far as transfers go, I can understand the complexities involved may stand in the way but offering players on loan as part of an overall transfer fee, ad similarly joint player deals would be a good idea.

On the loan side of things though I think a lot more could be done in actively encouraging players to go out to club X. At the moment it seems a bit strange that a decent player in my reserves consistently refuses to go on loan to a Championship side.

triskaedekaphobia

Oh, and sending/exchanging coaches to and from feeder clubs could be an option to help staff progress. Sending a 1st team coach out to Spain could give him knowledge of the Spanish game and maybe increase his technical coaching stats.

Similarly it could be an idea to share scouting information with your primary feeder club and help draw their attention to better players etc.

Another one, that I thought of is the ability to petition the board to clear your debt. I know it isn't directly linked to how you can manage the side but it really annoys me when I have a balance of something like £350m, am in debt by £20m and nothing is done to service the debt.

Dont know if it has been mentioned but the option to loan a player back out to a club you sign them from.

For instance if i sign a 18 year old who is gettin the odd game for the club i want to sign him from, would be nice to give them the option have loaning him straight back, think Arsenal did this with Ramsey?

Another thing is what Liverpool have done with Leto's loan IRL, if he didnt play X amount of games for Olympiakos then they would have to pay a certain fee to Liverpool.

As a Milan fan I would like to see MilanLab be mentioned when managing milan and see its effect on prolonging players' careers and not be told by the board to only have three physios when the game at Milan starts with 7/8.
I would also like to see players decline at different rates based on individual attributes and club medical quality. I would also like to be told by my coaches and physios that a player has started to decline in tests such as VO2 max so that I can sell him before it becomes obvious to other clubs, and conversely that a older player is still in physically excellent shape.
At the moment every club feels the same, more effort should be made to recognise the unique characteristics of each club and different challenges of each league, pace of play, tactical emphasis etc
Also more reference should be made to previous seasons, previous players, previous trophies and managers etc, so that at the start of a new season, having won the world cup you dont get told that the fans are ''cautiously optomistic'' about your reign etc. Fans should reminisce about former favourites and great teams/managers comparing them to the current teametc

this is a personal request but other people might like this suggestion.

i often play FM with my brother and obviously we put our names in when creating our manager profiles so our surnames are the same, as we are brothers. And i would like it if there is an option in FM to say that you are brothers and then in the news when you are going to play each other the press can build the match up by saying that "brother a is facing brother b in what should be an exciting match. This is the first time the insert surname brothers have faced each other and they will both like to get the upper hand in there first encounter. The match could be an open ended affair which could be set to be the most thrilling match of the season etc etc"

It would be a nice touch and will add another angle in the game. Alot of you might think that is unimportant but from my point of view i would like to see it in FM.

I would like to see more realistic compensation for staff, especially managers. Not sure why it's capped at £1million, but it would be nice to see the board bartering with the other club, as they do in real life.

I agree with the loaning players back option. I'd also like to see an option to loan a player to an affiliate until he has both enough days, and has decided whether to take the wp or not. It's frustrating to be able to loan player x for two seasons to a Belgian (say) affiliate, only for him not to want to go back for the third and final season.

I'd like AI managers to get the point about transfers, two major bugbears here. a) Managers will keep saying how good they think a player is, and make numerous bids, even when you state you don't want to sell. B) to know that an asking price is exactly that, so not offer £20million under it (regardless of how extortionate it may seem!).

Just an idea but people say that they struggle to feel immersed in the game world. How about within the game having a kind of virtual newspaper where you say click the page to see the next one and this could cover Good new talent/transfer rumors/Takeovers/Country performances/ Manager moves ect. It would be similar to the news screen but could have other things in it such as more news about regens so we can familiarize ourselves with the unknown players.

Just an idea:D

Edit: Of course i realize the programming problems with this so maybe do not make it daily but weekly or monthly with all the news and football related news.

3.No ridiculous transfers, i.e Arsenal signing Mutu for £24 million or Man Utd signing Steve Sidwell or Giles Barnes...

Another thing is more playable countries (especially African)

I've always assumed real life accuracy and the sheer size of the game have been big selling points for the series. So to that end:

- More playable leagues.
Particularly, as has been said before, in Africa - plenty of options there with Egypt, Nigeria, Ghana, Tunisia, Algeria, Cameroon, Ivory Coast; CONCACAF, such as a couple from Central America, plus I'd say Jamaica and another Caribbean one; the more obscure UEFA nations - Cyprus, Malta, Faeroes etc (if you can justify Wales, you can justify Cyprus); some of the better leagues from the AFC - Saudi Arabia, Iran, Qatar, and if possible Japan; and perhaps even one or two OFC leagues.

- Independent competition evolution within the game.
Mostly to do with international tournaments, but also for domestic football. Eg, European Championships/MLS expanding further, relegation/promotion rule changes, leagues changing size, number of substitutes, home-grown rules etc. Obviously SI can't release a patch for every real-life change that goes on, but if the game and the tournaments within it evolve independently it won't be an issue.

- More depth in non-league/amateur football AND/OR league creator tool.
I can't be the only person who buys this game every year wishing that I could go a few steps further down. For example in England I'd like to see as far down as Step 4 or even 5 playable (although Step 5 would mean an extra 23 leagues). I always start at the very bottom and for me at least this would add a whole new dimension to the game. Plus the LLMs would be all over it.

- Non-FIFA football!
Not to a ridiculous level, but at least an acknowledgment of the NFB would be good. This is more of a frivolity than an actual enhancement of the gaming experience. It would almost certainly not affect the game in any tangible way, so I could probably live without it. Still, it'd be nice.

- Better press interaction.
Okay, this one is probably in the pipeline anyway. But I can't be the only person sick of having the same journalist ask me the same question five or six times in a row, or asked about my plans to sign the same 17-year-old Chilean goalkeeper I've never heard of ten press conferences running. A greater variety of questions and conversation threads are needed as well, otherwise this feature grows rapidly tedious.

Well that's my say anyway.

I fully agree with more leagues. When you already have most of the top tier of a league for a country for continental competition purposes, why not just include the top tier as a league? I think I've found that this is true for Lithuania, Morocco, Egypt, as well as many other African countries. I would also like to see Trinidad and Tobago's top tier included as IIRC their clubs are often big players in the CONCACAF club competitions.

EDIT: Also, being able to get hired to manage a squad other than the senior squad. It would be cool to be able to manage the younger or reserve squads, and for national teams would give reason to include tournaments such as the Mediterranean Games.

I would like to see you as international manager able to go to the Nations Federation and ask them to spend more money on youth development in that country and the more they spend the better players that come through over a 5 year period. Which would bring more world class players from differnt nations into the game.

Hovering over the red INJ tab on the team page pops up the time he is expected to be out
Hovering over the WNT tab on a player pops up the clubs that are interested

(so you dont have to do an extra click to find these things out)

well hello guys.
i've an idea.

for examples i've lot of memeber of my staff they are directors etc. so it could be nice if i need to buy a player ask to them what i need for example if i need an goalkeeper i will ask to my staff technical staff about a goalkeeper , they will take time to think some options and then they will tell me in a window : ok we found this player , u can choose on this 1 , 2 , 3 , ....etc player.
it can be very nice and easy to find players and buiy it and also it could be more interesting to have a good members staff of my team. what do u think? sorry for my poor english but i wish u will understand what i mean.

How about the option to adjust wage boundaries? If I'm trying to sign a player for a club who doesn't want to come, I'd love to be able to adjust the maximum wage I could offer to a key player, obviously staying within the wage budget cap. Would be interesting to see Lionel Messi at Manchester City earning £300,000 p/w (I can currently only offer £145k p/w!)

Also, perhaps the different taxation levels having an effect on player decisions? (Apologies if it does already), but players are set to lose 50% of their wages through tax... more likely to move to Spain than England if they're interested in money.

Which leads me on to a player tendancy screen. it would be nice to visually see whether a player is more interested in money/first team football, as it could affect what you offer someone.

Finally, a list of how the assistant rates every position. I know we have assistant feedback, but it would be nice if we could see a list of the order that the assistant rates each player in each position, rather than having to look at an individual's report.

Hope that all makes sense!

You should be able to select languages that you speak. In real life, I'm English, so I select my nationality as that. However, I also speak French to an advanced level and know a fair amount of German. Can we have an option at the "New User.." screen to reflect this?

I'm managing Villemomble (a lower league French team) and I remember at the start of the game, there worries about my lack of French in the media. And no, my 2nd nationality is not French, so I'm not selecting that option.

Also is there a feedback topic/sub-forum for this thread where admins comment?

(Finally, sacking the current Arsenal researcher would be awesome - they've been overrated for years.)

Again, I havent read the 45 or so pages recently, so apologies for any duplication here..!

Im going to repeat the transfer thing - a club's finances should dictate how much they should be able to hold out for moneywise. I just bought Miralem Pjanic from Lyon, but they wouldnt budge for anything less than £110m. Would Lyon ever hold out for more than £40m for a good midfielder? Realistic negotiation too- anytime i try to negotiate, I end up in a stalemate where they ask for more than they originally negotiated. GAH!!

A stat called goalscoaring instinct for Kris Boyd. (so that FM doesnt have to pretend the rest of his stats should be high)

Reaction to transfers: the fans should be outraged and demand the money is outlaid on more quality talent.

Also, players loyalties seem a tad high. Messi always retires at Barca, Ronaldo at Man Utd, Kaka at Milan, etc etc. Maybe player finances (and player career earnings!) should be included. For example: Beckham doesnt need the money anymore, so why care about staying in yankland?

Clubs/boards should be reactive: The year is 2012, SAF retires and Man Utd finish 5th. Do the yanks throw in the towel and resign their plaything to an eternity of mediocrity? No! They react to it! They inject a massive .. umm.. injection of cash and completely rip up the squad. Oust the underachievers, buy new players. No more finding the same Man Utd team in the year 2017 as in 2008 trying to eek out their careers' twilights in 8th place in the premiership.

I'd love to see the ability to directly influence ur club's commercial impact on a region. For example a "reputation scroll bar" per country or area. Sign a Korean superstar and your reputation in Asia skyrockets. Play and win a friendly tournament in America, and your shirt sales over in the US rocket. Sign an Argentinian wonderboy, and schoolkids in Buenos Aires buy your shirts. They say Real Madrid make 1/3rd of their income through commerce. I'd love to see that integrate into FM.

Play beautiful attacking football, people will want to watch you. More money & more bums on seats?

Make ultimatums mean something. Been sacked every time.

The ability to ask for a new stadium, instead of just an expansion. If they say no, the ability to negotiate: "Well how much money do we need to raise for a 70,000 seater? We already have £200m in the bank..."

The ability to save money without paying outrageous shareholder cash.

The ability to pay off debt - I'd love to pay off 30 year loans early.

The ability to evolve a rivalry. Its no fun when you take a small team to the top and they have no derby matches in the premiership.

The ability of a league to evolve- I've been in the SPL with rangers for years. 3 champions league slots, 3 uefa cup slots and i've won the champions league once, as well as the uefa cup once. Still hardly any quality players will come to me or any of my compatriots. Perhaps the Scottish game as a whole should have evolved to compensate for this. Bigger TV deals, better players coming through the youth system, etc.

Finally, the potential for a manager to become a club legend. A statue? Of moi? Yes, right over there by the fountain please. Fantastic. Thanks.

An increase in grass roots investment. You could decide how much you want your club to scour the fields of yorkshire, the streets of london or the pubs in glasgow for 13-14 year old prodigies.

Probably already been mentioned 45 pages is too much to read but I'd like to see the bosman system refined so tht if you sign a player on a bosman you can offer to pay out his conract or a nominal fee to sign the player there and then or clubs to accept much lower offers with players with 2-3 months left on their contract etc.. the way it happens IRL.

Leagues evolving would be a good one and i think they should be able to decline as well like when Serie A was the top league to be before going through a slump would add to realisim.

Maybe on the past meetings screens don't just include the results maybe have top goalscorer, dangerman (Player with best average rating) just little stats like that.

News items on when players have got 50 and 100 caps for their country and when they beat the record for appearences and goalscorer. Also maybe the press commenting on records like my current Chelsea game i haven't lost at Home in all 3 seasons i've done.

Spot on in my opinion, sir. It's so annoying when your bank balance is like 100M and still there's that old 5M loan that's still got 10 years to run..

Also, I don't see the any reason to build a new 55,000 stadium when your last stadium was 48,000.. Only if the old stadium was REALLY old or maybe had running tracks around it..

How about transparent boxes in match view of match stats, motivation or whatever SI? they get in the way and if you have more than 1 or 2 boxes then you cant watch highlights without having to remove the box or move it around the screen usually making you miss goals an stuff. they can be transparent until you hover your mouse over them and then they can become opaque. :)

also how about a new feature every 2 years where there is a europe vs rest of the world match, to be played in the off season. you have to get invited to manage one of the teams for a one off match, you dont get a choice who to manage your lucky just to be invited in the first place and it will give people the oportunity to manage players they may never get to manage otherwise, like if you're man u your not likely to ever have the chance to manage torres or gerrard of liverpool but you will if you get picked to manage the european team.

just a novelty idea but i think a good one :p

I know there are probably 000's of these types of posts but a basic search didn't find any so thought i'd start my own in the vague hope that the guys who implement new things / refine old things might see these posts and consider them.

I have split them up into areas more for ease of reading than anything; some are quite in depth - I have just had a two week holiday so plenty of time to sit in the sun with a lap-top and a few beers to put thought into what I think would make FM a little bit better for the 2010 edition

Histories - Players

This is probably more of a cosmetic change however it is one element of FM that has irritated me for many versions; once you have played more than a few seasons’ player histories start to look like an absolute mess. How about presenting the information using separate tabs for different information; something like:

> A main screen as there is now for the physical stats – games, goals, assists etc – however with the removal of some information and only having one visible line per parent club per season (using a grouping function similar to Excel); time spent on loan at clubs or in B’ Teams is hidden unless the user selects the button to display all

Where a season has more than one line a cross hatch appears to the side allowing the user to click and expand the data; the totals at the bottom of the screen are for all lines both hidden and visible while I would suggest a colour code for lines of data not relating to the parent club.

In my opinion this makes for a far cleaner screen and the information is easier to view however to please everyone I’d suggest having a memory based filter that allows the user to decide both whether the default is all open or all closed and what they consider career stats i.e. to me career stats are League, Cup, and Europe etc to others it might just be League.

> A Transfers Screen (similar to one of the tabs on the achievements page) to identify where and when a player moved on i.e. the date, from, to, how much (with formatting like 24,000,000 to allow all monetary values to be used) plus a highlight of the games, goals, assists, average rating etc for the selling club

> A Loan Screen (similar to the Transfers tab) to show performance for other clubs similar i.e. the season, the parent and loaning club, the duration (season-long, 3 months etc) and the games, goals, assists, av. rating etc during their stay

> An Achievements tab - an evolving article style section (similar to the club histories) maybe something like:

Player X is a 27 year old English Right Winger, capped 37 times by his country he made his debut against Romania as an 18 year old since which he has scored twice.

He is currently playing for Liverpool following a £4,750,000 move from Wolverhampton Wanderers in July 2012; in total Player X has made 276 appearances, scoring 42 goals during spells at Liverpool, Wolverhampton Wanderers, Carlisle (Loan) and Wrexham (Loan.)

In a glittering career to date Player X has won numerous trophies including the Barclays Premiership (twice – Liverpool), the Uefa Cup, the FA Cup (three times – Liverpool), the Carling Cup and the Coca-Cola Championship (Wolverhampton Wanderers). Player X has also received several personal awards including being named player of the season for his club three times (Wolverhampton Wanderers (twice), Wrexham) and was the PFA Player of the year for the season 2014-2015

> A Competitions won tab (possibly mirroring the current style of competition histories for clubs)

> An Awards won tab (again maybe mirroring the current competition histories for clubs)

Histories - Managers

Similarly to Player Histories I believe the Manager Histories would benefit from an overhaul; how about introducing something akin to the following:

> The current Profile Screen showing all the basic information such as stats, wage, reputation etc

> An Achievements tab - an evolving Article style section (a’la player achievements record)

Manager X is a 37 year old Englishman currently in charge of Arsenal where he has been in the hotseat for six seasons. During his time in North London he has steered the club to the Barclays Premiership Title (three times), The Champions League Trophy (twice) as well as delivering success in the FA Cup (four times), Carling Cup (twice) and Community Shield; he is widely regarded as the most successful manager in the club’s history boasting a record of 170 wins, 90 draws and 45 losses in his 305 games in charge

Arsenal is Manager X’s third club following stints at Celtic and Leeds; in total he has been in the manager’s dug out 560 times and aside from his success with Arsenal he has lifted the Scottish Premier League Trophy (twice), the Uefa Cup (twice), the Scottish Cup, the FA Cup, the Carling Cup (twice), and the Coca-Cola Championship Trophy.

Manager X is considered by many to be a fairly frugal manager spending just £56m in his 11 years as a manager; his record purchase came in 2014 when he splashed out £35m to bring Sergio Aguero to the Emirates from At. Madrid. During the same period Manager X has generated £72m in player sales with the largest fee coming from Robin Van Persie’s departure to Inter Milan for £15m in 2015. In total Manager X has overseen the purchase of 26 players, sold 37 and released 14.

> A Competitions won tab (possibly mirroring the style of competition histories for clubs)

> An Awards won tab (again maybe mirroring the competition histories for clubs)

> A Records Tab (similar to the one for clubs) to display stats like games managed, won, drawn, lost ; Record Purchase, Record Sale, Sequences, Youngest/Oldest Player fielded etc – I would imagine this would be split to show both current club and all-time.

> A History Screen similar to player histories to show the manager’s record over time i.e.

Histories - Clubs

Akin to the Players and Manager Histories it would be nice to see the Achievements article regularly updated and available rather than just being something that is displayed when a human manager takes over. In addition how about:

> The Records tab – but minus the “Player of the season” element (unless its changed to “Player of the Season” – Most times Won) because it just doesn’t fit there in my opinion

> The Competitions tab – to keep everyone happy can you include a filter (with memory) to allow users to customise what competitions are included? One bugbear of mine is that If you manager a team up through the divisions with any success your Reserve and U18 teams end up in lots of different divisions and their success takes over the screen; I ultimately stopped entering teams into Reserve and U18 leagues purely to stop this!

> A Manager’s History tab – rather than “landmarks” a table that shows the managers in order of being in charge with their associated records (games, goals for and against, wins, loses, draws etc)

> A Hall of Fame tab – similar to the actual Hall of Fame but for managers of the specific club

kevgaleuk
21-06-2009, 20:13
Histories – Other Considerations

> Every user will want to see different information - from Player History (whether the main stats screen includes just league games or all competitions) to Club Histories (which competitions are shown) so why not make these screens customisable by adding memory based filters (where you only indicate your preference once and the game remembers)? The added benefit of this would be stopping the current situation where players end up with a season of 0’s when transferred having played in Europe or for their country but not in the league.

> If a player hasn’t made his debut then they shouldn’t qualify for a season’s history; given that players come into the game between 14-16 and sometimes don’t make debuts (even in cup games) until 17/18 that can be 3-4 seasons of 0’s. Obviously once they make a competitive appearance they should have season stats

Interaction – Press Conferences

I really like the concept of Press Conferences; I know this iteration has been fairly limited and quite annoyingly repetitive but SI should be applauded for bringing in yet another realistic element of a Football Manager’s life. To improve it though I would suggest the following:

> Add “Requests for Interviews” to the mix; all clubs (big or small) will regularly be requested of to provide information to the Press/Broadcasters about Transfer Speculation; Matches (past or future); Player Performances etc. An interesting option to also add would be the ability to decline interviews (i.e. you are so annoyed at a performance, or you are Sir Alex and refuse to speak to the BBC) which could obviously have short or long-term impacts on the reporting about you and the club.

> Include greater interaction with local media - if the EDP and Norwich City are a reliable benchmark news about the club is a daily occurrence; whether its transfer gossip, performance related, match previews/reviews or off field activities the club (not always the manager) must be asked to comment or invited for interview regularly. Aside from being asked to comment on statements made by a multitude of sources (board members, playing staff, ex-players, supporters etc) the relationship built with local journalists often has a big impact during difficult times – do they like you enough to cut you some slack or are they leading the calls for you to go?

> Increase the number of Press Conferences – IRL a manager will have to meet the media before each and every game. Also in line with trying to make these as realistic as possible try to increase the amount of “conversation” in PC’s. I appreciate that it might be tricky to have the AI pick up on sayings, words or phrases but IRL a manager wouldn’t get away with 1 line answers so why can Human Managers on FM?

> Include interaction with the media manager – do you prefer formal Q&A sessions or a less formal discussion over coffee and are there journalists who have burned you and are banned from the club? Also how about introducing the ability to instruct players / the media manager to not allow conversations with the media (within team settings?) or specify questions you wont take during a particular conference i.e. likely line-ups, tactical approach etc

> A not uncommon plea but can there be a greater depth of questions (or at least an increased way of asking them) and a larger variety of responses? Also can you include questions related to club performance; I have never been questioned about my club over performing itself (bar the can you keep the run going question) and it would be nice to have lines of enquiry (possibly most prevalent to local media bar the biggest clubs) about whether you can build/improve on last year, whether you feel a big level of investment is required to build/improve on last year and so on.

> Journalists bringing up comments made by other managers within PC’s; if you ever have a positive conversation or a slanging match with a rival manager its never mentioned in PC’s bar the randomly asked question about getting the better of x manager in mind games.

> I’ve seen this on other posts and totally agree that there should be a PC when a manager leaves a club (irrespective of whether its being sacked, moving on or just resigning – though this would obviously alter the question set!) to ask thoughts and opinions about the club, the previous chairman, ambitions for the future, players and or staff you’d like to work with again etc

> Better AI for the first PC after appointment at a new club; obviously this would be time and experience led but I have never understood why I get asked about my tactical approach, whether I like to be hands on or not etc after several seasons in the game. At the very least these should be tailored to be questioning whether a move up/down is likely to affect a previous approach. In addition there should be more questions about the state of the club, what success this season would look like (more relevant for mid-season appointments) and the scale of the job ahead of you etc

> Player Rumours should be worked on; I totally understand on the true vs. wildcard player links but it often becomes an irritatingly repeated process; I believe the following would help improve this aspect of the PC:

a) Computer AI to understand the type of players a manager buys; I often only buy younger players to mould into a long-term team a’la Mr Wenger yet the computer links me with 33 year olds I’d never look at in a million years and not even under the vision of needing more experienced hands to help shape my youthful side.
b) Include within the supporter’s spokesperson screen a section for specific player (or type i.e. a RB) the fans believe the club needs which could then be used by journalists in PC’s
c) Include slightly more generic questions asking the manager to detail the types of players he feels he needs rather than always having specific targets in mind.

> Manager Rumours should also be worked on; journalists should at least comment on speculation linking you to other jobs however a nice addition would be journalists probing your ambitions – i.e. you’ve been with X club for 6 seasons where do you see yourself in 5 years etc; I’ve lost count of the times I see similar questions asked of managers who have to be careful to balance their desire to manage at the top level but remain loyal to the club they are with

> Discussions around players contracts i.e. Player X has been put up for sale because they won’t sign a contract and you can’t afford to let them leave for Free – It is a regular occurrence that the manager tells supporters that they have offered the “best contract they can” and thereby laying the departure on the player (and maybe the Chairman) rather than himself

> Often there is mentions former players (often for too many seasons after they leave) but I have never encountered any fever about me taking my new club to play my old one which would be a nice addition

> Include questions linked to history i.e. five years ago Club X were languishing in the lower leagues but today you are gearing up for an FA Cup Final having finished 4th in the Premier League etc

> Make changes to current questions – There are currently several sets of questions that don’t make much sense:

a) Player rumours during non-window press conferences – unless the player is non contract or possible for a short-term loan then it’s a non-starter
b) Manager relationships - as a new manager (or encountering someone for the first time) I would have no relationship so at the very least there should be an option to praise them, advise you are looking forward to meeting them etc until you’ve opposed them a few times, engaged in banter with them etc
c) Questions about team strengthening after spending a lot of money – at the very least this should be linked to your transfers to date and be modified to mention the money you’ve spent and question how quickly the players are likely to gel?
d) Questions about back-to-back competition wins stops at two – if you are about to win it for the third, fourth, fifth time the question should reflect that – i.e. no team has ever won the competition four times in a row etc
e) Praising another manager should NOT demoralise the players it’s just unrealistic, managers often talk glowingly about other clubs, managers, players etc and it’s by no means a negative towards their club it’s just conciliatory.
f) If a player moved on a considerable time ago there should be an option to highlight the length of time that has passed – i.e. we have all moved on or it was a long time ago etc

One other consideration is has SI ever considered asking a national and local sports writer to consult on this section of the game like they did with former players (tactics)?

Interaction – Other forms

SI has clearly developed a platform for decent interaction through Press Conferences and I would love to see this rolled out across other facets of the game:

> Board / Chairman interaction

a) Pre-season preparations including:

- Discussions around expected performance in all competitions entered which depending on the chairman’s style and or the manager’s experience / reputation this may or may not end in agreement!
- Budgets required for the season – based on the season expectations, previous season performances and the improvements the manager feels necessary (i.e. we are strong defensively but need a quality striker)
- Discussions around how the club is doing against long-term targets

b) Post-season discussions including:

- Performance against each competition – mitigating failure in one with an over performance in another, excusing failure (reminding the chairman that as a championship side it was unfortunate to draw one of the Top 4 teams in the country in an early round and should not be seen as a catastrophe) or holding your hands up saying you were disappointed also but that really is football!
- Concerns i.e. certain player performances, player/manager comments which reflected badly on the club
- Early indications on what the manager feels is needed to improve next year whether that be budget for players, stadia / training ground improvements or more staff for certain roles – these could lead to potential promises from the chairman to do what is needed and should be linked back to when pre-season chats occur – obviously promises made and kept/not kept would have an impact on the chairman / manager relationship!
- Chairman demands for cuts/improvements i.e. reduce the wage bill by X or raise any cash you need by selling

c) Monthly catch-ups should replace the current board update:

- Go through each of the current sections in turn – i.e. players (ability to defend the player who only ever makes sub appearances), signings (Player X is 17 and brought for the future so stop being disappointed that I signed him!) matches etc
- Opportunity to lambast the chairman for selling your star player, demand all of the funds / downsize the seasons expectations etc therefore keeping your annoyance private not public
- Request additional funds for a specific person i.e. (Mr Chairman Player X would cost £12m, our scouts highly recommend him and I reckon we need him to achieve our expectations this season PLEASE can I have the addition £3m to capture him?!?!) or merely ask for more cash generally with the Transfer Window approaching
- Discuss your future in detail following speculation that other clubs would be interested in you as their next manager i.e. I am happy here unless X club or a member of the Top 4 come calling
- Discuss the aftermath of a Chairman rejecting the advances of a club i.e. are you happy, okay with it, disappointed or angry?

d) On ad-hoc occasions i.e.

- Briefly discuss your future in light of speculation of jobs i.e. I want to explore it or have no interest in the role
- Lambast (privately) the Chairman for turning down a club’s approach to speak to you without discussing it or for selling your best player
- Ask the Chairman for more cash for a specific player a’la monthly catch-ups but perhaps in light of another club making an approach for said player
- If in discussions with another club (and your current club wants you to stay) there should be discussions about what it would take to keep you etc or the offer/promise of a new contract – at the very least a plea to stay on

e) Other Chairman / Boards i.e.

- when negotiating the opportunity to move to another club there should be interaction with the club’s chairman to discuss expectations, player budgets, long-term aspirations of the club and so on all of which would come into your decision making process. Also negotiating for X, Y and Z of your current staff to be brought to the club with you
- Quietly advising them you’d like to join them if they can agree with your Chairman to let you go while keeping mum about it to the press (not necessarily the most loyal thing to do but I am certain it happens IRL!)

> Player Interaction

a) Ability to quietly discuss any manner of topics such as contracts, performances in games/training, discipline, reaction to dressing room antics etc in private rather than only ever being able to speak through the press; of course some conversations might leak through the player’s agent when a player is unhappy. In order to achieve this you could specify the topic(s) you want to speak about prior to the meeting which could dictate the conversation pieces

b) Contract discussions should be included so that its not all about the cash; having the ability to understand a players feel for the club, their ambitions, happiness, how content they are with how regularly they play etc would be more realistic while being able to discuss the fact that your wage structure wont allow you to give them the

c) Target Player conversations; IRL players will come and look around a club and there is discussion about player’s ambitions, motivations etc before contracts are discussed – I have known of a few times when managers decide not to proceed after “looking into the whites of their eyes”! In addition the Manager has to sell the club and his/its ambitions for both the season and the longer-term to even get to contract negotiations.

d) Pre-Season chats – I quite often keep a player’s squad status the same for several years and it often strikes me that IRL a player would have ad-hoc chats with their manager about playing (first point) but also ahead of a new season a player is likely to go to their manager enquiring about the likelihood of them playing more next season (a’la Phil Neville being allowed to leave Man Utd when Fergie told him he’d still be a bit part player!) As such it would be a good addition (both player forced and manager option) to have season-ahead focussed conversations (especially with young players who you want to go out on loan)

e) Conversations with players being moved on:

- Transfer-Listed players - explaining why is both realistic and fair! However in addition there are times when you put a player up for sale because they refused to sign a new contract and could walk for free – this should be distinguishable!
- Players who will not be offered new contracts – It’s a seasonal event that a certain number of players (young and old) will be allowed to leave on a free; most times you know who they are ahead of time and it would be good to not only tell them ahead of time so that they are more accepting of job offers made to them but also have the option (should you want to) of touting them around to try and find them a new club
- Transfer-Listed by Request players – It would be good to be able to advise them of the minimum you’ll accept for them, your expectations of them while they are still your player or even try to convince them to stay (by understanding their reasons for wanting to leave) – the outcome to this conversation would help you decide how quickly (if at all) the player is shifted (i.e. if they are likely to give less than 100% or be a bad influence of the team morale)

f) Conversations with Younger Players – while the majority of their day to day training may fall under youth coaches and the academy (if the club has one) there needs to be interaction with the manager around topics like:

- What they need to do to earn a professional contract
- Role Models / Tuition that would be good for them
- Skills etc you'd like them to learn and why
- Your desire to send them on loan and the level you want them to gain experience of (i.e. lower leagues to toughen them up) which would hopefully make them more accepting of loan offers from lower-league clubs
- Providing inspiration i.e. that if they work hard they could earn a first XI spot

> Staff Interaction

a) All Staff

- Future Aspirations – i.e. it would be good to be able to understand how happy your staff are in their current roles i.e. a youth coach who wants to be more involved with the First XI or an Assistant Manager hankering to have a shot at management themselves
- Contracts – a’la players it would be good to discuss other things rather than just cash with your staff
- Former staff – If you leave a club it would be good to be able to encourage your former staff i.e. your ex-Assistant Manager to come with you
- Mutual Terminations – If you take over a club and want to go in a different direction or bring your old staff in with you it would be realistic to tell the current staff that as you offer to show them the door.

b) Assistant Manager

- Discuss training in more depth – the current training report means little; using interaction would allow the AM to highlight repeat positive/negative reports and allow the manager to ask for specific reports
- It would be good to have the ability to ask the AM to compile reports over a series of weeks about specific player(s) i.e. a young starlet you are thinking of including in the first XI and discussing the reports in detail
- Conversations to provide feedback about games i.e. player performances (linked to the AM section in the game itself) or player reactions to team talks etc

c) Academy Chief (NEW Staff Member)

- Discuss new players in the academy (pre-season re-gens) in depth highlighting strengths, weaknesses etc
- Regular conversations about progress of youngsters including AC requests for Player X to be given some First XI exposure etc
- Updates on starlet acquisition – how he/she is doing with the budget assigned to them and the progress of any players purchased
- Discussions about youngsters approaching the end of their contracts i.e. do they merit a professional contract or should they be released etc

d) Coaches

- Ad-hoc player requests could be provided in more detail i.e. going through the standard sections (best position, other positions, strengths, weaknesses etc) it would be good to be able to probe these in more depth – Player X maybe the 6th best striker but he’s 17, how close is he to the 3rd best who is currently on the bench, would he benefit from a loan spell and if so what level etc

e) Chief Scout (NEW Staff Member)

- The CS could compile the plethora of scout reports into one meeting where you could go through by region, by position etc
- Scout assignments could be both generated and discussed/reviewed by the CS i.e. the manager identifies the areas of scouting that they want covered; the CS (can be) responsible for ensuring enough staff of the right calibre are employed to achieve the manager's wishes
- The CS could bring to the manager’s attention players who should be given a closer look allowing the manager to ask for a more detailed report from the CS a’la Man Utd where if a scout recommends a player then Martin Fergusson will be sent to review him before Sir Alex sees the player himself
- The ability to ask the CS to compile a list of recommended players (i.e. a quick striker between 24-28 who would encounter no Work-Permit problems and is available for a maximum of £Xm) saving you time searching manually through the thousands of players who might fit those requirements.
- CS to compile a list of any players that Agents have suggested we look at that he/she feels are worth exploring

f) Physios

- Updates on long-term player injuries i.e. Player X should be able to resume light training in 4 weeks and could possibly be available for selection by X Date
- Questioning the risk associated with putting a player returning from injury (Orange Inj) on the bench / into the team – is it a risk, how big a risk?

Obviously there is a lot of interaction so it would be helpful (and more likely to please the masses) if there was a setting (maybe within team settings) to determine the level of interaction i.e.

• Assistant Manager – After every game PLUS the first Monday of each month
• Physio (Named) – After every game PLUS the first Wednesday of each month
• Chief Scout – The first Monday of each month
• Academy Chief – The first Tuesday of each month
• Coaches (other) – No regular meeting
• Scouts (other) – No regular meeting

Similar to the suggestion around player interaction the filter might also include the topics you want to discuss i.e. with the AM you might chose to discuss just the previous and forthcoming game after each match whereas in the monthly meetings you might choose to go over player performances, training etc

g) Agent Interaction

- Ad-hoc conversations with agents trying to encourage you to make a move for their player and the ability to farm them off to your CS for consideration during your next catch-up
- Ability to approach the player’s agent quietly to gauge their likely interest i.e. very interested, maybe if the offer was right, you’ve got to be kidding! Like transfers there should be an option to request privacy however sometimes it will leak to the media; under these circumstances it would be good to be able to say you were interested but you are no longer i.e. burning the agent who couldn’t keep conversations private

Other Changes

> Transfers, Loans and Scouting

a) Beyond a slight tweak of the prices offered for your players, expected for their players I don’t have any major requests for change (though I am certain others will have very valid requests); the two things I would like to see changed are:

- The monetary element - to allow greater flexibility in offers i.e. over 250k it goes up in 25k increments (which for most clubs below large championship standard is a considerable sum) while above 1m the increments raise to 100k, above 5m its 250k and above 20 its 500k. My suggestion would be to bring back the horizontal money bar from Champ ’93!
- If a transfer fee is £19.45m record it as such don’t round up to 19.5m

b) Can you please tweak player’s likelihood to go out on loan; it appears to work fine if you are a club that was originally established as big i.e. Man Utd however if you raise the profile of a smaller club i.e. Norwich hardly any of your players will agree to go on loan to Championship clubs and you can forget them going to one of your smaller feeder clubs – linked to the ability to interact with them and encourage the little brats to go on loan for their own good this would be a good change

c) In conjunction with the ability to have your Chief Scout manage your scouting requests it would be good to have the option within scout search settings to ask them to search for certain levels of current ability or potential ability i.e. have the scouts look for players who wouldn’t necessarily get into your team now but might in 2-3 years, players who would act as back-up to your star striker, a player to replace your first choice goalkeeper next season etc

d) Can you add the ability to “edit” a search that is in progress rather than having to stop it and re-start it with the changes made

> Match-Day

a) Another request I have seen and totally agree with is adding a Physio report alongside the Assistant Manager report to advise you how serious those little knocks are

b) Team Talks could do with improving; the current suite of responses are very limited ; is it possible to add interaction within them i.e. incorporate some of the tactical elements into conversation or specifically tell a player why he has done well/badly

c) Can you include the ability to differentiate between halves in team talks? Often your players will have a fantastic first half and a lousy second half but your only option is to say well done; ideally you’d say great first half but play like you did second half and you’ll be dropped!

d) Players already admonish managers after games (occasionally) therefore can you include dressing room bust ups i.e. a player disagreeing with either the overall team talk or individual comments?

e) I used to love the old stadium backgrounds (and still download the packs that soon become available) but it would be awesome if the stadiums in the game could resemble the actual stadiums rather than being a generic representation of a stadium size? surely the shape can't be copy-written??? Also can the graphics be improved on the current stadiums?

f) Commentary – I have never believed FM needs “official” commentators but that it could make awesome use of the improvements in voice technology that simply reads the words off of a page a’la word processing packages?

g) Without getting too much into the realms of flashy graphics can the pitch view incorporate players lifting trophies etc at the end of a cup run?

> Staff & Jobs

a) Can you include attributes for shooting and set pieces rather than uses having to work out the combinations of mental and technique to get a coach that can achieve more than 3 stars below top team standards?

b) Can you include some new staff positions:

- Chief Scout – most clubs have one (with just the number of scouts under them that differ) and their role could include being the conduit through which scouting is managed (either fully by them or by the manager specifying instructions), compiling the various reports into one either by region, country or position, being the person sent out to provide a final check on a target before the manager gets involves
- Academy Chief – Although I do manage the training of youth players I don’t believe all managers would; what seems more realistic is that clubs with academies have a manager responsible for bringing on young talent. Bigger clubs (or smaller ones choosing to forego other luxuries in favour of a stream of youth players) could employ an Academy Chief to devise and manage the training of the prospects under their charge; in addition it would be good to be able to apportion a budget to them to identify and procure the services of youngsters into the club’s academy i.e. U15’s?
- Youth Scout – if the club can afford one it could appoint a scout to work alongside the Academy Chief to seek out the best young prospects for the academy as well as identifying those kids already starting to make their first XI appearances

c) Chairmen should play a bigger role in job offers:

- IRL chairmen tend to want to block potential approaches (sometimes discussing it with the manager sometimes not) this would be a good addition to the game
- If a club is rebuffed they don’t always walk away (though they do sometimes) and therefore there should be an element of a Chairman negotiating compensation before begrudgingly allowing you to talk to the other club
- The game regularly talks of the board doing their best to keep their manager in light of speculation however they actually don’t do anything – at the very least the Chairman should try to keep you either through a basic plea, using the media to guilt you or offering a new contract / promises of money to build the club etc

Don't know if this has been mentioned already but i'd like to be able to set my team up differently from when i have the ball to when i don't. Nearly every team in the world change shape so why not on the game? I'd also like to be able to decide on how wide my players play. For example i may want my wingers to drift into the middle and then allow the fullbacks to overlap. I think this would add abetter variety of play and make the tactics more in depth. Hope you understand what i mean, found it hard to explain what i mean.

I have always been amazed at the black and white views on the editor, some love it others hate it. Personally I think it helps make FM because the key thing is that it allows the player to determine their game and therefore the level of enjoyment they will get out of it. Some use it to cheat, others use it to make their own footballing world, others make the game harder and others just rectify things they believe are mistakes.

Only things I'd like changed to it currently are:

> A help - the original FM editor came with a help doc that allowed users to understand what the variances were, what they meant etc and this was massively useful
> have the game fully look at the DB it creates - of course the majority does however if you edit a player's history the main screen is taken from your edited history but other elements of the game obviously still look back at the original database which causes small but annoying conflicts!
> Bring back the reset all button - one of the old editors allowed you to reset all stats along with setting all stats to 10 for example; on the rare occasions i edit players I quite often set all youngsters to stats of 0 to allow the game to make them up and that button used to make a lot of difference time wise!
> Add a home-grown button to player editing so that you can add youngsters to a team and not have to wait 3 years for them to become your players
> Include the full set of contract option i.e. yearly wage rises etc

i think the league evolving idea is great specially for long term games. it would be good to have an option at the start to have league stature changing or not, but it should be realistic, like poland or india shouldnt become the best league in the world.

also the team-talks, add some more options, they have been the same since ive been playing FM.

Keygayleuk, simply brilliant post, you've saved me writing about 80% of the other stuff I'd noted from other posts! The new staff roles would add a lot I think.
And complaining about my 17 year old hot prospect striker is a big bugbear!

Other things (and most of these have already been mentioned, but I think the more they're mentioned the more likely we'll see them in the new game).

Preseason
1) make transfer money avaible earlier (have missed a lot of FRT because funds aren't available until its too late)
2) foreign training camps
3) a tour squad should be announced (maybe 30 players total?)

Physios/Training
1) dietitian, as a supplement to stamina coaching
2) better reporting from physio (slight bruise on arm or hamstring twinge for example. Also more in-match feedback a la ass man.
3) full medical report on player signing (eg, player passed but susceptible to ankle problems, slightly over weight, etc)
4) enable training progress over players career at club (as opposed to last 12 months)
5) explain the difference in costs between treating a player by the physio as opposed to specialist

Transfers
1) make min release visible on player search screens
2) bring back first option transfers
3) enable buy from- loan back to (or even buy from/loan another player as part of the deal)
4) buy multiple players as part of a package

Player Interaction
1) allow captains feedback post game, or even mid week (the rest of the players are unhappy because x is guarannteed 1st team football, etc)
2) when picking teams (for reserves and 1st team), the option to explain why players were picked/dropped would be useful (blood young players, rest star player for big game, match fitness, etc)
3) on the player interaction screen you should be able to tell a player he's not wanted (if he won't accept a transfer etc) and he'll rot in your reserves if he stays.
4) you should also be able to explain to players why you are sending them to a feeder (experience, w/p, etc)
5) you should be able to have more interaction with players in private.
6) more in-match interaction (psyche up subs coming on, yell instructions from sideline)
7) tv/magazine interviews, more seldom but more in-depth than a press conference
8) short press conference when new players are signed, maybe a weekly conference preseason to discuss new signings/rumours?

Scouting
1) bring back the videos from agents
2) at the start of each season your chief scout (or an elected scout anyway) should give you a list of all the tournaments for the year, and you should be able to assign scouts to several, non-overlapping tournaments from a single screen. (why can't my best scout be assigned to the Olympics and uefa-19s a the same time, even though they would have to be scouted at the same time?). It's a pain to have to remove a scout from a finished competition and go back an check if there are any new tournaments every month)

Misc
1) at the board room you should be able to improve medical and commercial facilities
2) people have mentioned the odd chance of someone being injured in the warm up
3) once you've confirmed a sub, but someon else gets injured/sent off before you're changes have actually been applied (ie before you're subs have hit the pitch) you should be able to cancel them
4) trophey cabinet
5) if you manage the reserves, surely you should get a little kudos if they win the league?
6) a short list for staff, so you can keep an eye on star scouts at other clubs.
7) and some more hype about wonderkids, especially in foreign countries, so they are brought to your attention.
8) finally, when you advertise a job, the applicants should be presented as a shortlist, which you can save, and compare like in the normal staff screens

I know a lot of this is rehashed, but there seems to be a lot of support for some of these on the forum so I thought it might be good just to keep them fresh. And there are one or 2 ideas I would really like to see implemented (I like to think they're original but I'd be surprised if they were!). I'd defeintely like the see the job-applicaant short-list and the grid-view to assign scouts to different tournaments, all from the same screen.

Sorry for the long post, these are all little niggle more than huge issues for me, but if you don't rant...

Percentage of the player you want to buy with choice of who gets to play him, with the ability to buy more later!! That, and bring back first options! Sometimes I just want to set the future price and own a players first-option for 2-3 years! :)

We need more flexibility in the transfer market IMHO...

@ kevgaleuk & michael100 - I like a lot of your ideas, especially about press conferences and more interaction within the club. One other feature I would like to see, kind of related to these, is more discussion around the manager's contract. Over recent times, we've read a lot in the press about managers (e.g. Benitez at Liverpool) wanting assurances about transfer money, transfer targets, improved facilites etc before signing new deals. It would be great if we could make some suggestions/demands during contract talks and have those discussed in the press conferences as well.

A setting for people who don't want/don't have the time to go so in depth tactically

If I want my Manchester United side to play an attacking 4-4-2 I should expect to win most games, not lose and draw regularly against clubs with far weaker players because of a few misplaced sliders or a bad selection of team talk.

Id like to be able to choose not only 1,5,10,15 and 20 in the filter area! That´s because if I want to get 7 star trainers I need spesific specs on variuos atributes. And I must add that I think it´s a bit to difficult to reach 7 stars!

Ok new idea, probably will never get read but you never know.

A lot of people dont like the tediousness of the press conferences, understandable really. Yes they are part of a managers job etc, but how about this as an idea.

Manager Mood Setting: You can choose from a set of moods for example, Happy, Delighted, Under Pressure, Angry at last performance etc. Something you would set before and after a game. So this is just one or two clicks. The game then completes the Press Conference for you, just giving you the summary of how it went, and how the team will react.

Obviously it doesn't relate to questions about the transfer speculations and current squad worries, but surely the game knows your shortlist, so could answer for you if you are interested in a player or not. Or allow you to choose how secretive you want to be/ or blatant you want to be.

The new FM09 is mighty impressive, but like many users, I don't think I enjoy the game as much as I did in the CM2 and CM3 days.

I haven't read through all these pages, so sorry if my points have already been mentioned. For one thing, I'm a 22 year old with commitments now, I can't just put in hours and hours into FM/CM like I used to. Anyway what I'm trying to say is, why I don't enjoy the game as much,

- FM09 is great, but overtime I feel its just become far too complicated- I really couldn't give a toss about training my players or press conferences. I find the game alot more time consuming for numerous reasons and some aspects feel like chores.

- The game is a decent pace, but I played CM 01/02 the other day and boy is it lightening fast! I appreciate that its with having faster computers now- but, back then there was a lot less crap to deal with and I could do a season a day no problem, can't do that with FM.

Anyway what I want is options, FM09 is a great game and plenty of people love these tons and tons of features that get added and the 3D pitches and the amazing detail and training youth etc- some of us don't care! THey love the basics of hte older games, play with text commentary, the buying and the selling, going through seasons quicky. Anyway what I really want is some options when installing the game, so that perhaps we can have a version of FM, like the older CM's with no 3D pitch, because it would make the game lightening quick again!

Anyway, hope I make some sort of sense.

I think you are completelly correct!!!
I'm 40 years old, and I play since CM1.
I just love this game, but I also feel that some improvements make the game too heavy.
But, in the other hand, there will always be people who will love it, and I think we have to respect it.
Just for example, I've never used nor the 2D neither the 3D pitch. I like to play the games only with text bellow and in the fast speed (years of experience allows it!!). I also love to search for players, buy and sell, negotiate. As you said, I don't like to deal with training schedules, too. But I know that there are people who like this.
I think that's why FM is so popular.
For me, I have only one more thing to tell: I love RPG games, adventure games, strategy games, but I become tired after some days of playing these types of games. And thats not happen when I play FM.
FM is the best game ever!!!

I just wish that you make the game a lot more transparent. Right now we're supposed to run tests to find these things out and some of us simply don't have the time or aren't that creative. Also most of the people I know don't visit this site so they are ignorant to a lot of important things.

We need definitive answers on things like:-

- What's the difference between a 5 star coach and a 6 star coach?
- What do we have to do to move into a new stadium? Do certain conditions have to be met or is it blind luck?
- What attributes are useful for scouts? Do adaptability and determination play a role?
- What do physios do? Can a better physio speed up a players recovery or do they simply get a more accurate idea of how long a player is out? Also what other attributes does a physio need besides phys?

I'm sure there are others but I can't think of them right now. You should really add to the tutorial found in the game, maybe add an advanced section. And it's important that you don't go about it in a vague manner.

I'd like the mechanics for turning professional changing. I'm currently managing in Finland as TP-47. They start of in the First Division (2nd tier) and are semi-pro. I got promoted to the top flight after 2 seasons and have now played 5 seasons there (about to start 2015 season). Last year we finished 2nd, and reached the Finnish Cup and League finals. The previous year we finished 4th and won the Cup, and we finished 5th the year before that, narrowly missing out on a place in Europe.

We've also been making a good profit and now have over £2m in the bank. All players are pro, but our status is still semi-pro, which seems to massively affect our reputation as only 2nd tier players will sign for us.

Because of this I can never sign anyone as no one I can sign will improve the side. We're also in Europe now, but that hasn't made a difference in terms of attraction.

Surely a club in our position, competing for the title, healthy bank balance, and playing in Europe are prime candidate to turn pro, but I don't think the board will do it unless we have a lot more money, which seems silly to me. In fact it won't even cost anything extra as all players are already on professional contracts.

Some great ideas, especially from Kevgaleuk. The most important changes for me are:

1. Player Interaction- private discussions ("being called into the office") with players regarding their general happiness, performances, progression etc.
- If a player won't sign a new contract, being able to ask why and seeing if it can be resolved.
- being able to explain to a player why they have been transfer listed. ie; Not gonna be picked, contract runs out soon etc

2. For Agents to have a more active role, it'd be cool to get faxed CV's of players out of contract who are looking for a club. Also, from players who want to move clubs.

I would like a playable game.
I would like a game that is tested so I dont have to wait 6 months to even be able to play the game
I would like a better scripted code so the game is more stable.
But the question is if you have enough competence to fulfill those 3 requests......

made a topic, but didnt gave it a great title, so i'll just post it here

when you want to look into the stats of a player, you'll need to spend some time in it. either by sending a scout, or by offering a trial. i was wondering why the same thing shouldn't apply to your staff : the trainers, fysiotherapy etc. why are their stats avaidable at the start?

for example, a player retires and became a trainer. his stats are shown directly. why not send a scout of your own club (already proven his skill, so you know his stats) to look how he is doing? or offer the new trainer a trial, so that he can prove his skill on your club.

i think this would make assembling your dream staff a bit more satisfying.

Believe that Sega are now working on the FM2010 and thus it could be a good chance to give some feedback to improve the current one~~

- player transfer
1. buy a player by offering not only exchange player, buy back price, friendy exchange but also allow offering player loan & co-own to opponents
2. able to request extension on loan player contract (e.g. extend for one more season)
3. can propose back to buy their player (e.g. Inter wants to buy Deco + Carvalho; while Chelsea proposes back to buy Maicon with $$ + Deco + Carvalho). ==> There would be much more flexibility.
4. in previous version of FM, player's agent would advise "interested clubs" to make an offer to buy the player. i can't see this in FM2009, can we have this feature back?
<please correct me if it is wrong>
5. once the player wants to leave, clubs should not stand in high price as before if the clubs decide to sell player
6. in "Offer to Club" options, is it possible to add an option "choose specific clubs" instead of "all human clubs"?
7. like the players nowadays, if they demand to transfer, they should be not only able to absence in training but also having bad performance in match & low physical condition to force us selling them. I know it is much more challenging in handling players but isn't it more realistic? Many players are now doing these kinda things to keep pressure on the clubs' side.
8. i'm not sure if it is real but once my team winning 3-4 seasons consecutively, there is no more interest in my players (those are still below 30) but only those with ages below 23, 24.....
<please correct me if it is wrong>

- tactic
1. it would be very good to have an old tactic system back to guide the team in different tactic to attack & defence (in real world the tactic could be very different when attack and defence but now it would only based on forward run, creativity & player attribute to decide where they go). Even if not change to old tactic system, it would be great to not only having team talk but also "preferred move - e.g. put the ball on net; try more killer ball; beat offside trap...etc" for every player during the game at any time!!
2. currently in "swap position", the instruction would not be swapped but only according to the position. in realistic some case it is true that instruction is based on position and only swapping the player. but sometimes you need to swap position with instruction as well (e.g. creativity, run with ball, long shot, crossing....so on) it would be great in next version to have a choice whether swap position including the instruction as well

- team talk
not only at begin, half time and end of match; but also able to talk to player during the substitution (e.g. jump a window to talk to the player after clicking "confirm tactic"). It is essential and realistic to motivate the player when they go to the field
make team talk available before starting penalty shootout

- youth players
i realize that youth players' attributes can highly improved when playing lots of first squad matches but not in reserve or U-20 / U-18 team. however in realistic most of the youth players can improve the attributes alot in lower-level games
(p.s. the training is already in 6-star for all aspect and i mean those youth player are at least be classified as "potential to be good player" by coaches with 19+ in "judging player potential")

- get license of Germany national team
it is a bugs as the condition is always at 100% in the whole tournament. you know stamina is one of the important factor to win especially you are not leading first class national team. it's pretty unfair =)

- match
I saw once when I used Milan to play Euro Champ League that both Inter & Milan would having home game on the same date and same time!! << i wanna attach this as evidence but not sure how to post it here, please feel free to let me know>>

That's all my opinions and feel free to comment =)

All good suggestions.

1) When i am negotiating a players contract and they want a win bonus, match bonus of say £7k each and i negotiate and lower them less £5k foe each bonus they refuse and want what they want but thats not totally realistic as players negotiate what they want. so improvement on player contract negotiations.

2) When i bid for a comp player the comp asks for more money then he is worth (which is realistic) but when the comp bids less for the same player the comp accepts there offer. that is not realistic and not fair. Improvment in the AI transfer system

1. The search option should be similar to wikipedia search, meaning if you type "steven gerrard" you would go straight to Steven Gerrard profile, instead of having the choose between the only Steven Gerrard in the game.

2. In the "home stats" "away stats" there should be stated numbers of mistakes/mistakes leading to a goal.

3. Should be a training option to train the weaker foot, similar to training new position. It could be 10% of players whole training.

4. While the press conference is a pretty cool feature, its a bit repititive.

5. There should be a feature for the manager to set up a press conference, i.e. before his resignation, before a buy/sell or to resolve some issues or just to talk about things, biggest managers usually have friendly press conference they have once a week or so.

6. I really dislike how the A.I. is poor at seeing potential in players. How often REALLY good regens get released by their teams or sold for small value. That's something which needs improving.

I've had problems with the comparision feature of the game, that is the "touted as" and "dubbed as" thing. It's a good feature but could be so much better.

First of, there are far too few legends players in that list for some nations (only one Irish player and less than 10 english players of which most are current players) while there are hundreds of legends from Brazils.

Also the comparision is often way off. In my game Nedum Onuoha was touted the next Jamie Carragher. For god sakes, they have nothing in common other than being english defenders.

One of problem behind these problems is how the comparision is done. Its only compared if the players have similar height and have similar description (i.e. Midfield Playmaker or Strong Centre Back). Instead there should be variables, like some attributes, preferred foot, preferred move or even city of birth.

Dale Gribble

Also to have some form of talent recognition in there. I found a young winger touted as the next David Beckham, trained him well but he never got past Championship level, yet he stayed as the next David Beckham.

It should be the comparison disappears when its known he'll never get near the talent of the original, or they shouldn't be compared in the first place if he has a really low PA.

What I would like is player tacts and opp. instructions layed out similar to FML

For those who haven't played it, the screen is split into 3 parts. the whole right side is the instructions. The bottom left section is the formation(click on the appropriate dot for the player), the top left is the players attributes, position and foot.

This way I find is easier, there is no need to go into a players profile and back again to tactics.

Just a small idea about international management: When a player is injured and cannot be called up I'm tired of forgetting to re-pick them. I know requesting match reports works, but having a section underneath saying how many times a player has been called up to the squad in the last year or whether he was in the last two squads would be nice to ensure I get everyone I need in the squad.

League Statistics and Team Statistics should include things like "total number of corners/free kicks/offsides/fouls/penalties/scored penalties/saved penalties/yellow cards/red cards".

I'd also like a "right result" table, showing how things would have panned out if all referee's decisions had been correct. The difference would be smaller on FM than in real life, but it would be a nice addition.

Being able to filter the players history to view all the games, goals and assists he has done in total without having to click on the individual season. It would be great to view the total champions league goals my regen has scored.

I would like stat to see who is the premier leagues, champions league and other leagues top 10 highest scorers ever so I can try and get my regens into that.

messi

1. I think that it is imperative that clubs evolve, as you get situations in which top clubs are mid table sides due to failing to progress with regards to their squads. For example in 2014 Man United are 11th and still playing Scholes, Giggs and Evra, as well as Carrick and Park, all poor players, while Arsenal still play Adebayor, Van Persie, Almunia etc, while you invest in Ronaldo, Rooney or top regens and end up romping your way to a league title. As someone who is computer-illiterate, I have no idea how feasible this may or may not be to implement, but it is one of the key features (in my lowly opinion) that needs to be implemented.

2.The referee not being right all of the time, or 95% of the time. I feel that referees get all the controversial calls correct too often-it'd be nice, albeit perhaps more frustrating at times, if referees got decisions wrong slightly more often.

3.An "anger level" when you criticise the referees. If I'm going to be fined or banned, I want it to be for something more than a mild response-perhaps an option to say, "I feel the referee has cost us the game" which, IRL, noone would be banned for, ranging to, "The referee is a thief" Jose Bosingwa style, for which you would be fined/ banned.

4.I'm not as wound up by the perpetually repetitive press conferences like some people, as they were a new feature, but it is an area that must be improved.

5.Players not taking so many shots with their weaker foot, i.e Michael Owen attempting a lot of 25-30 yard left-foot shots. IRL Owen would instinctively hit a close range tap in left footed, but never (or rarely) hit one from that distance.

Im not going to explain all of my gripes with FM09 simply list them.

- Manchester City have way too much spending power, and attract all the best current generation players, and seem to have a knack of every signing being out of this world.
- AI is too stringest and doesn't negotiate where transfers are concerned. The AI wont pay above £30m for anybody.
- Often AI will not pay £31m but will pay £30m, its too strict, needs to be more flexbile and negotiate more.
- Huge clubs such as Chelsea and Liverpool in extended games, usually around the 2013 mark, will go into administration. Chelsea in my game were actually demoted after going into administration, and then it was a slippery slope, quickly falling out of the league system, with Abramovich still the chairman, quite strange considering he's a billionaire.
- Players being unhappy at the lack of "Managerial Discipline" despite their being no one to discipline.
- Players with amazing statistics seem to do poorly when they play for a human controlled club, particularly the case with regens.
- Human controlled clubs will surge to a 5-0 lead in the first half, and then not score at all in the second, or have the other team mount a comeback.
- Too much of the game time will pass without anything happening. I'll make substitutions in the 80th minute and the game will leap forward too the final whistle, with nothing happening.

Suggestions for FM2010:

- Trophy Room, if FM has the licence for that league already does it then have to get image rights? this would be an excellent feature.
- In-Depth post match interviews.
- Buy Shares in the club with earnings from Managers Wages, or allow you to do something to invest in the club or lower league teams just anything, I've got total career earnings of £15m and its just money sitting there being wasted, I want to do something with it.
- More control over sponsorship deals or agreements
- More indepth meetings with the board members in particular the chairman over issues relating to transfer funds and players.
- Approach chairmen of other club to state interest in player and seek information on whether he is for sale.
- Chairmen of other clubs in a domestic league meet annually to discuss improvements or the situation with referees, any topical issues affecting the game.
- Option to request a fourth official on the touchline assess video replays to assist referee in close penalty and goal line decisions - similar to Howard Webb in Egypt v Brazil Confederations Cup.
- Manager should request the club sign a player and the chairmen will attempt to open dialogue with the targeted club to ensure deal goes through.
- Ability to criticise referees in the game.
- Ability to request to rearrangement of fixtures should International Fixtures clash with Domestic Fixtures.
- Ability to have FA discipline referee should their performance be particularly poor.
- Ability to criticise linesmen, and have their stats recorded for the amount of offsides they give.
- Team talks need to be more flexbile, and selecting the "Wrong" team talk shouldn't result in a defeat or the team playing badly, really annoying when you have world class players.
- Big clubs have to sell their big players for the right money, Ronaldo's £80m transfer to Real Madrid as an example, Kaka £56m to Madrid is another.
- German national team needs to be licencesed.
- Crowd disturbances would be a cool feature, especially at away european games.
- Complain to FIFA should your FA turn down a request.
- FIFA should have more control over the international sector rather than the domestic FA
- Approach the domestic FA and FIFA for specific requests, i.e introduce goal line technology, switch fixture to neutral ground, request games played at more suited stadia with better facilities, cap player wages or pump money into the grass roots.
- Give exclusive interviews to specific media outlets.
- Have a "relationship" with media outlets.
- Media outlets might print a story accusing you of playing a weakened side on purpose, you can refute the allegations and refuse to speak to them again (see alex ferguson and BBC Match of the Day)
- More choice of sponsors in the game, providing greater income.
- Players injuries more varied (Players involved in car crash for example, could be a cool feature)
- Ability to have a private jet purchased for the team to travel abroad in Europe, reducing the level of fatigue in your players.
- During the transfer window clubs offer more players out to other clubs promoting more intense negotations.
- Negotiations need to be more indepth and slightly longer
- Declare interest in player, and have that club report you to FIFA or FA for inappropriate approaches, should you be found guilty, your fined or banned from the touchline.
- Ability to run a Club TV channel, dedicated to your teams football news, and have a level of subscribers giving you increased revenue.
- Arrange open top bus tours on the back of a momentus victory, lifting morale.
- Open stadium for tours on a weekly basis providing more income.

My first wish is a league creator/editor. Its been mentioned a lot, but I think it would enhance the game a lot. I have a lot of implementation ideas to keep it simple, effective, and not to screw up people's databases, but that is hardly the same as having any clue as how to code it :P

Two smaller ideas which might improve things:
1.) Have AI assign "importance" to each game/tournament. Most notably in International management, the best players available are called up nearly always. In real life, less important friendlies and cups are used to test depth and bloody youngsters, which doesn't really happen in the game. Importance could range from 20 to 1, with 20 meaning that strictly the best players for the game should be picked, and 1 meaning the game is purely for experimental purposes and many uncapped but well performing or young and promising players will be called up.

2.) Another hidden attribute of "Longevity". Higher the longevity, the later in the players career a player will break down (think Sheringham) and the lower the attribute the earlier a player will break down. I realize that some combination of attributes, playing time, form, coaching attributes, and training facilities dictates that now, but its just a thought.

One simple thing to help new players get into the game would be the ability to let the assman come up with a tactic. A check-box saying: "Let the assistant manager control match tactics" would let the assman take care of all the tactics and the player could pick the team (or let the assman do it) and buy players. The assman could also comment on his tactical choice:
"I've chosen a defensive 4-5-1 tactic since we're playing Manchester United away. A defensive midfielder will help cover our defense. You should select a strong forward up front to hold up the ball until our midfield can join the attack. Quick midfielders will be an advantage since we want to hit them on the counter attack".
During a match the player could chose to see the slider settings and how the assman changes them during the match to get an idea of how the sliders works, maybe with additional comments from the assman, like: "I'm changing to an attacking formation since we're one down" and the player would see the mentality (and other settings) change in real time.

bring back the clear debt feature that was on fm07. basically if you have enough money in the bank you can use it to help clear debts. or more like the board uses it to clear some debts.

oh yeah and bring back the fm06 first option feature where you can pay an amount up front where you can set how long you would have first option on the player at the price you set.

real madrid use that in real life, dunno why it was taken away.

I don't think that managers arrange them...

Yes IRL, managers have little if any influence on ticket prices.

But how about having an option to Ask the board to consider lowering the ticket price for a certain game to have more chance of packing the stadium out.

Lets say you are in the relegation zone, and have a big 6 pointer coming up at home, lets ask the board to lower ticket prices to fill the stadium to get more support behinf the team.

This. Don't think it should be in the actual game though. More of like a tutorial to show more transparency in the tactics and how the AI thinks when tweaking or making tactics so we don't have to continually guess.

Or have it available as an option in the game, so seasoned players can just turn it off whilst newbies and tactic analysts can turn it on to observe.

I don't know if it's already been mentioned because I CBA to check through such a long thread.

But.

What with a lot of games out nowadays on PC being FULLY customisable, I'd like to see FM go in the same direction, at least when it comes to the data editor. None of this "hardcoded into the game" BS. I want things to be fully customisable. I want to be able to alter the format of a major competition/division and the number of teams that can enter it (especially frustrating that you can't do that if you're trying to create a database based on a past season). I want to be able to get rid of points deductions (very frustrating that you can't do that if you're trying to do a data update for the following season).

I'd also like to see some sort of scenario situation to spice things up a bit. Like a "save club x from relegation when they are 7 points off safety with 5 games to go" type thing, along with other scenarios of course. Adds another dimension to the game.

FULLY customisable set-pieces and tactics would be nice too, similar to what CM appears to be doing, as well as the opportunity to hone them on the training field and to do training matches.

It has probably been mentioned already but it'd be nice if the AI wasn't so dependent on the CA/PA values, it kind of makes the game feel superficial when you find a good player with low CA and you can't sell him for half the price you can get for a worse player with a higher CA.

Maybe the game should adopt some sort of "rating system" like Genie Scout, I generally don't use scouting programs, I think they ruin the game, but usually after I'm done with a game I check my players in genie scout, and most of the time the time the "Current rating" is VERY accurate. If Genie can do it so can SI.

I have an idea regarding scouting, which for me is one of the most enjoyable experiences in the game.

Firstly, the ability to snap up players who don't yet have a club; eg 14 year olds playing for local teams miday through the season. It just makes it abit more realistic, having your scouts and about to see who has potential.

Secondly, to filter exactly what to have your scout search for. For example, I want a good, propesctive GK; I will tell myt scout to look in location X for a goalkeeper that is at most 21. THis means my scout comes back with different options for me.

Want to see the option for a club manager to recommend his player/s for the Under 21s Under 19s or the full national team of whatever country he plays for. If that player, of course, warrants such a recommendation through his displays? That would be a good one to have in FM10. Also, that the bookies odds for a club at the begnning of a season is not connected to the history of the club but rather, how the club has performed, throughout the week, month, season.

These odds would go up or down regularly - depending on how a team is doing during the season. I think that would be a realistic thing to add too. Also, more in-depth team talks at half time and full time. The option to bollock a player, or team, in more ways then we can at present if they are not performing to the standards we expect. More in-depth press reports, with not so much of the same thing being repeated over and over. Also players from other clubs, the option for them to admire players - or managers - from other teams during the season. I have not seen this in any incarnation of FM to date. I have seen where they admire their own team mates, but not other players from other clubs {apart from the club/s they have been transferred from.}
