is the game unplayable

is the game really unplayable straight from the box? I diidnt have no problems with the demo and i see people have the game early and others are like well the patch aint out til the 5th. Is the patch going to make a huge difference?

The release day game is exactly the same as the Demo code so if you found no issues with the Demo, then you wont with the full game. The release day patch will fix some small data issues and some match engine tweaks, I suspect.

Even those who have reported issues with the Demo, none have been game breaking so the playability level is fine.

The biggest reason I'd wait for the patch even if I had the CD is the data issues. While they are small, in a long term game it could make a huge difference.

I think the majority would have no problem starting their game without the patch, but the fact that the patch is only a day away just means you might as well wait.

its not the waiting tbh its just the fact that do i really need the patch? Its not as if there are game breaking bugs only a few minor issues that might not affect me at all.

It's always best to be fully patched.

Surely you won't have to start a new save for the non-database related fixes and tweaks to take effect, will you?

No- the only reason to satrt a new game is for data changes to take effect. Match engine tweaks will be implemented into your current game.

Although the data changes will only be minor things like the Liverpool take-over etc. Anyone expecting ZOMG Gareth Bale to be awesome is going to be sorely disappointed (and expect it to be bigger from Friday after the hype-machine crancked up a notch after Tuesday).

If we start a new game today, will the day one patch not take effect on a saved game?

Or, as touched upon above will only the match engine changes take effect and not database related changes? Also, is the patch due to be released at midnight tonight or some indeterminate time tomorrow?

The game is fine from the box, I've been playing that version since it went gold.

And you can patch and continue savegames.
