Clayton86
Hi all, I am managing Swansea City, and want to have as many talented Welsh players as possible, I have one regen who seems to be a real star for the future - so I want to ensure I keep him as there are so few talented Welsh players around! He is 16, and on a Youth contract of £55 a week. Am I best to just leave it like that until he turns 18, and then sign him on a professional contract where he will be committed? Or will I run the risk of someone coming in a pinching him off me? Basically this is a new situation for me and I would like some guidance on the best way of ensuring I get to keep him. Many thanks in advance
jemparowkenastoprocent
you should offer him professional contract. when he's on youth contract, any club can sign him for free because his contract is unprotected. also, when he's on professional then he can train on full time training schedule
JimmyIOCS
Definitely get him signed up to a pre contract.
Thebaker
If he is any good another team will sign him up immediately, i've had teams signing up my youth players within 2 weeks of them being created, i do the same now however . Always get a good youth player on a contract as soon as possible, also the contract and hence FT training comes into effect when they reach 17.
