Worst Injury ever?

Was talking with mates about football injuries last night which inevitably got onto FM injuries and the worst case you have saw.

In FM06 i had mikael Dorsin (sp?) recovering from a broken leg (5 months) when the first game back (at 80 odd % fitness stupidly)

he tore his cruciate Ligament!!

Any other horror injury stories out there?

9 months spine fracture I guess?

I have been fairly lucky - in five years of FM, the worst injury I got was to Voronin in FM08 - he ended up playing one more game then leaving anyway.

Never had more than eight months, and that was for his cruciate ligaments. Ouch.

I saw once a player injured for 15 months Oo

I had a midfielder out for nine months with an ACL tear this past season; he's not back yet, but judging from the hit he took to his pace and other physical attributes, he might not be good enough to play for me. I'll give him six months to sort it out, though.

My worst was in CM06, Cesar Romero, cruciate ligament for 9 months, first game back did it again! Played 25 minutes in 18 months!

I've heard players getting arthritis before.

Worst one I had was Champ Manager Italia when Lentini was out for around 18 months after a car crash. Still, I had van Basten and Massaro up front so still managed to score 'a few' goals .

It wasn't in the game but thats what happened to him in real life. If memory serves correctly he was listed as suffering multiple injuries.

Diego Buonanotte had a car crash in real life which is in the game, but it just says that he's unavailable due to medical reasons until x date

It wasn't the worst injury but I lost Rooney for the final six months of the season with a dislocated ankle I ended up finishing third

The serious viral infection is probably any infection which affects your ability to live a normal life, but can be cured. For example that disease that Markus Babbel contracted. Guilleme Barr Syndrome or something like that.

For me. Torn Calf Muscle. Out for 5 months, it happened to both my attacking midfielders within about a month of eachother.

As grahamf says, it's what happened to him in real life but when playing Champ Man Italia, he was out for 18 months.

I remember back in CM4 me and my dad were playing as Liverpool and we drove them to the brink of bankrupcy [a bit of irony, now that I think about it...] and the club chairmen took over all the deals and amongst selling and buying a few players they bought Sylvan Distin who was injured for 12 months or so...

I have had a couple of 9 monthers.

Xabi Alonso for me in my current save. Managed about 30 games per season in my first two seasons at Real. In the last two, he's managed 15 or so over both.

His pace has dropped to 8 and acceleration to 6...

Not exactly an extremely serious injury, but... after insisting for a while, I managed to buy midfielder Pierre to Banfield. He got injured for 6 months in the second summer friendly

Fairly sure i have had a 24monther. Cant remember the exact detail but think it was a badly broken leg.

I've had injuries for 10 months before if I remember right possibly torn ligaments or something similar to that.. and once saw one wereby if I gavei njections they would be out for 15 months, physio 12 months or specialist like 4 months, no surprise which one I chose...

On one of the handheld versions of the game (2007?). Messi was crocked for 14 months, was delighted

I've got a centre-back in my current save who was out for 6 weeks with arthritis. Doesn't seem to have affected him too much and he hasn't had a recurrence...

In one of the older games, i had Micheal Owen retire due to injury, shortly after i had signed him too.

On 07 I was Valencia, and pretty close to the start of the season Canivares got injured and was out for the entire season, then ended up retiring from the game.

The worst I've had was in FM09, I had just gotten promoted to the Premier League and spent 9m of my 11m transfer budget on Jimmy Briand. 40 minutes into his first game he went off injured, he didn't play for about 7 months.

on CM 01/02 I bought Crespo for £36 million, as he was awesome and the best striker on the game, and 3 months in he tore all the ligaments in his knee and was forced to retire, was absolutely gutted. Only got £13 million in compensation.

I bought Jovetic with LFC to partner Torres, in the first game of the league he gets injured... out for 11 months.. GREAT ! (dont remember what it was for since at work:P)

Had that happen in that version too.

I had a 19 year old youngster, who was looking to be the best player in the game. Had to retire through injury, before his career even really got off the ground.

I tell ya... it was like being handed a nugget of gold, only to have it snatched away!

It was deemed to be unfinished and a bit buggy but I decided to take a chance on Wally's updated version. Just finished my first season with it and I think it's fantastic. No major bugs and added alot of realism to injuries.

Maybe someone in this thread could carry on the good work done by GillsMan and Wally to improve it further for FM11.

P.S. If you are downloading it, scroll down towards the end of the 1st page and find Wally's post in order to download his version of it. It fixes alot of bugs contained in the original link.

The moral of this thread is; never play your star big-money signing, the great hope of your club, imeediately after signing.

Worst injury was Lukaku who was out for 7 months with a Broken Leg.

I was Real Madrid, the player who injured and retired was Oskitz Estefania bought him from Real Sociedad, I remember he retired at 23

I had a 18 year old wonder kid regen injured for 8 months; he came back next season and two weeks later he was injured another 6 months. During the next season he had various injuries, being the last one another 8 month injury around march. He never recovered, and retired at the age of 21. Real pity, this kid scored 12 goals with Real Madrid when he was 17/18 during the season he had his first injury.

Not that bad, but my central defender just broke his ankle in the 93rd minute of a game we had already won. 3 Months out..ugh

A couple of FMs ago I was so excited to use my Vieri/Crespo partnership, then Crespo got injured for 9 months...

The worst one i've experienced was a player on a team managed by my friend, in a hotseat game.

Think it was CM97/98.

He refused to play after the injury to his star striker happened, when he got the news that the striker was out for 21 months. Think it was a broken leg.

Can't still hear his screams. Still laughing

Buffon, just sign for 29 million first game... Broken Leg, out for 16 months then retired halfway through his injury spell. GRRRR!!
