Do you ever see a defense spitting pass from midfield in the match engine?

I watched Xavi thread split the defense with a great pass tonight and thought that I haven't really seen this in the match engine, a player in midfield dissecting the defenders and laying on a chance for the striker. Maybe it's just my team? Does it happen?

Also I hope proper dribbling is in the new game, actually doing a trick to beat the defender, maybe even shimmy between a couple, lollipops, cruyff turns etc, rather than just kick it past and run.

Haven't seen Xavi's pass, but yeah through balls happen a fair amount on the game.

It happens, and in 10.2 it happened far too much.

"Proper dribbling" is "in", there just aren't the animations for it other than "don't push it so far ahead". I have no idea what a lollipop is.

yes, if you use the verticle zoomed scrolling view you see quite a few nice passes etc, alot more than when you use the main stand view

Yes, my advanced playmaker support and balll winning mid defend are both quite adept at sliding balls through to strikers or wingers moving into the channel - it's a joy to behold sometimes.

i'm playing with sydney fc atm and i've developed one of their youngsters (Joe Gibbs) into a top playmaker for the league and he beats defenders with beuatiful dribbles to score goals and constantly slips a ball between defenders for my striker or one of my wingers. At 19 years of age he's now one of my best players and has been called up to the australian squad because of his genius.

Saw them all the time in my Leeds save. Also i've seen a fair few goals in the same save which i said at the time would be next to impossible in real life but then Messi goes and does near enough the same thing.

I play with 3 AMs and a lone striker and see 'slide-rule' through balls all the time, they are my bread and butter!

It's a very common expression.

Particularly in English football when a quality strikers scores from >10 yds, and the commentator has already used the phrase "and he won't get an easier chance all day/season" and needs something new:

"that's meat and drink to a striker of Shearer/Van Nistelrooy/Rooney's ability". comes up 100 times a season.

I would say 'meat and drink' is used nearly as widely, no change in meaning of course.

I've seen some great through balls.

Once gerrard lobbed the ball, from the center of the pitch, over the defence to aguero. I just stared with my mouth open.

In the Team Instructions screen, if you set your playmaker's instructions to "run on to ball" when passing to the target man, it increases the chance of a defence-splitting pass.

Heard food and drink, not meat before, but im just splilitting hairs , as for the OP, i don't see a problem with defense splitting passes, i would never score if it wasn't for them...

Never heard "meat and drink" or "food and drink", only "bread and butter" . OT, I see through balls fairly regularly, unfortunately its always through my defence.

The way that I am set up its usually my 4 attackers that play each other in on goal. I do see a lot of nice passes though.

Through balls definitely are my meat and drink :D
