billy the fish
Hi everyone, Im a bit of a newbie round these parts, but have been a member of the forums for many years but have finally got round to posting. I have been playing Championship Manager since 1993 originally on the Commodore Amiga. Before that Football manager on the C64. Just wondering what PC spec people are using on what kind of data base size, as im going to buy a new PC. I suppose in the following format.. Processor: Core Dual/quad/single: Ram: Graphics Card: Game Database size: How many Leagues: Roughly the average time length of a season: Cheers guys & gals! Bradmonk
Processor: Phenom II x3 Ram: 2GB DDR3 Kinsgston ValueRam Graphics Card: Sapphire Radeon 4850 Game Database size: Large (30000) How many Leagues: ENG (tier 8), ESP (Top), FRA (Top), ITA (Top) Roughly the average time length of a season: 22 hours. Mate, my game flies with this hardware and I could easily add more leagues. I would suggest building a computer instead of buying one off the shelf. Think it's about 14 countries, rest on view-only) Roughly the average time length of a season: 10 hours

trekman
Processor: Core2duo 2.33ghz Ram: 4gb (only 3.3 usable though due to using a 32bit os(window7 home premium)) Graphics card: ATI Radeon HD 4600 series 1gb ram Database size: Large (40000+ Players) Leagues: 25 all on playable Roughly the average time length of a season: A bit longer than roykela (I'm very patient ) I should also mention that I use gamebooster which help with the speed and of course I ignore what the stars say regarding performance. SuperJoe
Processor: AMD Phenom II X4 955 @3.2ghz Ram: 4gb ddr2 Graphics Card: ATI Radeon 4870 Game Database size: medium How many Leagues: 12 but with only England and USA playable (Took notice off the stars for some reason) Roughly the average time length of a season: Now in 2055 and still get season done in under 10 hours. Also would suggest building your own. Built my 1st comp last year and was a lot easier then i thought.
qussl3
Processor: Q6600 O'ced to 3.2ghz Ram: 4gb ddr2 Graphics Card: ATI 5850 Game Database size: Custom (66K) How many Leagues: 12-14 depending on my mood, with less than 10 playable I finish a season in under 20 hours but i like to take things slow, also I run short games typically less than 5 seasons but with custom clubs. Would like to add that in my estimation FM is a database intensive app, so it is important what kind of hardrive you intend to run. I'm pretty certain that any current gen (intel i5/7) quad core processor with 4+gbs of ram would not be the bottleneck, if you can afford an SSD that should impact your gaming experience more than having a top of the line processor. Also, build your own, its cheaper and easier than you think and the individual part warranties are usually more reliable and generous than the dells and HPs of the world. I like scouting and finding bargains. Roughly the average time length of a season: somewhere between 24-48 hrs. I don't know about anyone else but more ram and my RAID 0 setup makes the MTBCC (Mean time between clicking continue) a lot quicker. Gone are the days of clicking continue and off to make another tea. Good luck with the new build mate.

Bradmonk
Thanks very much for taking the time to reply!! Any ideas of the best places to buy computer bits from? I was thinking of building my own. Use google shopping to find the best deal. when I built mine I bought from loads of places, Amazon, Aria, LambdaTek, Misco, ebuyer, Eclipse, etc etc.... Used all of these with no probs. just shop around. also, if you're not too savvy with the internal gubbins of a computer, Haynes (the car people) do a manual on how to build a system, I would strongly advise you purchase this to help walk you through the building process. santy001
i7 920 @ 4.5ghz (corsair h50 with 2 fans keeping this nice and cool) 4GB of 1600Mhz @1700Mhz QPI is at 7700MT/s ATI Radeon 5750 Gfx card (850mhz, 1300mhz up from 750 and 1150 respectively) When it was at 3.9ghz, to holiday through an English season with down to BSN/BSS with about 20,000 players it took 9 minutes. My current save has about 160,000 players in and a whole bunch of obscure leagues and processing a day never takes more than about 30 seconds. I generally play whilst on other games though, so I don't know how fast I could burn through a season playing it.

santy001
It can shorten the life, but if you plan on upgrading that regularly then it doesn't matter too much. You need a good cooler for your CPU to overclock it though, which usually requires a bigger case than usual and additional fans for airflow around the case. It can be risky if you just go into it blindly, but if you put the time in research it and maybe try it with a less valuable system first of all you can become comfortable with doing it.
