Journalist relationships?

Recommended Posts

Why is it that when in a press conference the journos name always appears as "a journalist" with the relationship being "none"?

I mean it got me thinking. What if, as manager of a big club, you could give the info of your latest transfer to a specific journalist in a specific newspaper? It would build a healthy relationship and give you more press exposure if you used the feature to your advantage.

Just a thought...

I like the idea of simulating relationships via interaction, as I do this myself by not attending certain Conferences when certain news outlets are there. However I'm not sure whether this could be implemented in a lightweight way and not impact on the game as a whole. What would be the point of leaking a story other than to "tap up" a player which is against the laws of the game. Plus I'm not sure that news outlets would be happen to have their names being used in such a way.

Like Fergie and the BBC?

Or Joe Kinnear....

I think the intention when journalists were introduced was to allow you to build relationships with them, but either that hasn't materialised, or it has, but not enough for us to notice.

Not to sound too middle of the road here but I honestly believe it's a bit of both. The idea behind the creation of journalist interaction is a good one as it's further promoting the ongoing day to day business of being a football manager. Dealing with journalists certainly fits that description. However how far we can embed this into the game to any great advantage I'm not quite sure.

I'm prepared to be proven wrong however :)

I agree. I think the whole press conference needs an overhaul, and this suggestion would be a great part of that.

I would like to be able to "hate" certain journalists.. pesky ones who press me for pointless answers to pointless questions.

I think the problem there is the engine and not the "pointless questions". I'm not sure whether specific journalist outlets are given specific attributes and have favourite personnel in the game, but if they did then your point is valid.

Otherwise it's a complete gimmick.

Well I was thinking that the journalists could be attributed. Maybe with stats like "bias towards big clubs" and "transfer story specialist". I know that it's too late for FM 11 but maybe for 12 it could be possible?

along the same lines as this, what happens if you have a bad relationship with a journalist? The journalist specfic to my team (Chippenham) is the journo for 'The Chippenham Football Times' and aparently after a few seasons he 'dislikes' me. What does this mean?

As soon as i noticed this I have started to give a no comment to any questions he asks. Is there any point in trying to get him on side? does it affect the team moral or say for example he only gives me questions liekly to produce a bad reaction from my players when he dislikes me.

thanks

The whole journalist thing is just half-a$$ed to be honest. Sorry to whoever worked on it, not your fault it's just not complete.

I mean you see some journalists that have negative personalities, I've seen good and bad relationships with them. The thing is all this stuff is pointless because the journalists never do anything.

You have an interview, answer the questions right and you always get something like 'team will react well to this' 'player will be bouyed by this' etc. How players react to interviews is 100% based on how you answer questions and has absolutely nothing to do with say a evil journalist putting some negative spin on it.

Along the same lines, if it's not fixed in FM11 can you guys do the following... if you are asked about being interested in a player and you say 'have no interesting in this player' why the hell do they keep asking about the same player another 6 times when you keep telling them the same freaking thing. I know it's totally minor but it's just annoying. *shrug*

I don't really pay too much attention to them right now.....I mean I go to all of them but I always give them generally the same, diplomatic answers.

I am sure the whole thing will be improved in the next edition.
