Patch 10.3. Injuries again?

At least 2 or 3 knocks and injuries each game. I have at least 3 first team player injured at any given time. AI teams are same.

Seems way too much.

I am in the point of saving before each game, and reload if any injury occurs.

Also the patch has been out for a long while so not sure why you're questioning this now.

Because I have a life, and am not playing this game 24/7 :o

I recently re-installed and patched the game.

After 7-8 seasons it became apparent there must be something wrong.

Especially after I promoted to EPL, I feel like I need to have 3 full teams to deal with injuries.

In general Injuries have been increased but they are still lower than in RL.

If you feel yours are high than put together some statistical figures so we can judge (No per season, no of players, length of injury etc)

It could also be that you are doing something within your tactics/choice of players that increases the possibility of injury.

I am not a master in this game TBH, so I usually don't massively customize the tactics etc.

I make my own trainings but nothing special there, all in "medium" level. Actually my players is not injured in trainings most of the time.

Playing style is mostly set to "average/standard/normal" etc. Tackling is set to normal for all players, and "easy" for the players with very high aggression.

As I said, it was acceptable level until I promoted to EPL. After that, the more my team gets successful, the more players injured.

@Cougar, can you tell me what kind of tactics, playing style leads to more injuries than average?

I'm not seeing it, tbh. I had a little spell where players were taking knocks in training, but not many were happening during matches. One mid did tear a thigh muscle, but that was the only serious one. Everything else was a 2-10 days for knocks, the odd 2-4 week injury for other things. Even then it was nothing major and certainly nothing unrealistic - it was just one of those times.

If anything, I've wondered if I haven't had an unrealistically long clean bill of health. The guy with the torn muscle has been my only injury problem for the last couple of months - not that I'm complaining about that!

Hmm, I find it hard to believe in match injuries are lower than IRL. I don't have any stats to back it up so I may be wrong, but it does seem that things like 3 players being unable to continue in one game happens far more often than it does IRL. In fact, I don't remember when was the last time I saw it happen.

I wish SI would make the game more customizable. So instead every patch having too many/too few injuries than people think there should be, we would have a slider in game options that reduces or increases the amount of injuries. Problem solved ;)

A few months ago someone compared the average number and length of injuries in the premiership according to physioroom.com with the numbers in FM over a few seasons, and even on 10.3, FM was slightly less than IRL.

On customisation, FM is supposed to be a simulation of football management, so why would you give people the option to make their game less realistic?

Do your players have low stamina or natural fitness?

As you go up the leagues a higher level of fitness is required, as in IRL, but player's stamina/fitness attribute increases to match. If however, you're playing with a promoted side, the players might not be fit enough for the extra demands, hence more injuries...

Injuries seem high to me in general, but it really varies, if they were any more frequent the game would not be enjoyable really. I'm alright with the current level.

I remember one time I had three goalkeepers injured, I ended up having to use my *fourth* choice goalkeeper for a couple of games, including in a champions league tie, luckily I won anyway, and luckily he was a half-competant youngster.

Well the actual purpose would be to make it more realistic by letting the community to test and tweak things. I remember playing a basketball game by 2K sports and they have a bunch of sliders to modify the actual gameplay. Like free throw difficulty, inside shot success, 3pt success, offensive/defensive rebounding, player tendencies etc etc. So you have fans posting their settings that make the game play out as close to real life as possible.

I am not saying they should let us modify the ME dramatically but something like injuries would be a good start since that's a common complaint not after every new game comes out but after every new patch as well. Sure, some people would use it to lower the amount of injuries to minimum but there are already quite a few ways to make the game easier and less realistic if you wish so, so I don't see it as a problem.

It's not really a common complaint. What happens is that a few people bring it up every patch (often the same person). Then people like Cougar comes along and proves that the problem is not too many injuries (I've been known to do it on occasion even), and then it is dropped for a few months. The best that anyone who supports the theory is "I have a feeling, but no proof", which is as valid a position as the Creationists take, or "I always get 4 red cross injuries" which is either confirmation bias (don't worry we all suffer it, and it's essentialy incurable), or a tactic and training set up which is weak for maintaining the fitness of a squad.

@ the OP you asked about a tactic which leads to higher injuries. Well any tactic which is high on closing down and tempo, and which gets players to cover a lot of ground (e.g. attacking fullbacks) will be more likely to cause injuries. Also look at your training if the overall level is Very Heavy turn it down, paying particular attention to Physical and Aerobic (they are the most intense). Also look to have at least 22 players capable of slotting in at whatever level your at (at LLM that's hard I know) and rest any player under 95% unless it's a big match or you're short. Last bit of advice rest your players between games during heavy playing periods, it really helps.

So I guess it is my luck then...

I certainly will make some tweaking in my training, team talk also tactics and playing style, and see if there will be any improvement.

Not playing a player under 95% will be a challenge though, considering I am playing in EPL all the cup matches and Champions League.

I have 25 players in my 1st team squad, and all of them capable of playing in any game I throw them but still I don't think I will be able to play with 95%+ squad only.

I have two 4.5 fitness coach, but still it takes at least 4 days off for players to get a 95%+ fitness.

@Brian: I will definitely try to give them some rest. Is there any option to give the whole team a rest? Or should I click them one-by-one and rest them individually?

I'd say you're just unlucky by having one of those seasons. There's really nothing wrong with frequency of injuries. In fact, the FM averages are actually a little below to those in real life. I have 4 careers running in 10.3. All four have been running for at least 10 seasons and I never noticed a problem with injuries. Yes, you do get seasons when they're more prevalent, but then you also get season when your team is barely injured at all. It happens, just like with real football teams, except they actually get a bit more injuries than we do in FM. You just have to learn to deal with them better. Also, try not to train your players too intensively in aerobics or strength once you're well into a season.

I don't have a problem with many players getting injured, but I've been noticing a trend of new players getting injured right after their transfers. It's usually in their first month at their new clubs. It happens to every new player, not just those injury-prones. I wonder if it's because of the break during the transfer window.

I had to go and tempt fate, didn't I? Very next game, one 'can't continue' and two green box injuries. :)

Thing is, while I always try to take 'greens' off as a precaution, I find that a lot of in-game knocks don't present as actual injuries after the match. Of those that do, about 3/4 are the 2-4 day variety - in other words, the little knocks and niggles that you'll often heard managers mention in pre- and post-match interviews (good examples would be Fabregas and, particularly, Rooney and Gerrard, all of whom played parts of last season with what would show as 'orange injuries' on the team screen).

There is no injury bug, the main problem is that previous FM's have been very injury light, now that they are getting closer to RL (still not enough though) everyone thinks its a bug. No its not, its about training, rotation and squad management as well as tactical.

First group players by teamsheet (pkd) then click on the goalie, Shift+click on S (highlights the matchday selection), right click on one of the selcected players, choose training, choose rest, pick the length of time (1,2,3 days or a week). Yes getting everybody on the team at 95% or better is hard, but unless you're in injury crisis mode, 93% for the worst player is easily achievable.

One last piece of advice, anyone in the low 70% after 65minutes in a match consider subbing. Most of my subs are based on fitness, even to the extent of sometimes leaving on a 6.0 rated player and taking off a 7.5 rated one.

My limit for subbing a player is when he goes below 75. I keep a player below 75 only if I don't have any alternatives for him.

That's why I like players who are comfortable in a few positions, they will not be quite as good as a specialist, but the will cover the bench a lot better.
