suggestion for FM11 - playing manager!

this has been discussed through and through in the past, I'm sure. (feel free to link to threads regarding this.) but where does the developers stand on the idea of adding the possibility to make a playing manager? I always "cheat"/modify when I play FM, by adding myself to the squad I'll be managing.

If you want to play though then isn't Fifa what you need.

@arsenalfan7 just adding yourself as a player as well as a manager. I usually create a player with the db-editor, and add myself to the team I will be managing.

It might have been mentioned once or twice. As you can tell I'm not a fan of the idea. A few people are but I think for the majority its a thanks but no thanks.

My only issue is that for realism purposes the Player Manager would have to be in the twilight of his career... say 2-3 years max before retiring... and probably not of sufficient ability to be a regular (otherwise he'd just be a player).

yes! I know it's not very realistic to be a ca/pa 200/200 player manager in his early 20s - but whatever.

My problem is that to do something like this would require extra coding and programming that would take away development of the core game. That to me is a big no no.

To be fair it's not that unrealistic an idea or something difficult to implement. I actually think it would be rather good.

When you add yourself as a manager, you're creating someone who has never existed before, with a background/history in the sport. You can set yourself as a 30 year old ex-international as a manager, it's not beyond the realms of realism to have yourself in as a player too.

Even if you're in the twilight of your career and don't have a massive CA, it'd be a feasible suggestion and as said, if you don't want to use it you don't have to.

I would quite like the idea as long as i can choose my position obviously and perhaps choose clubs i played for. and the computer does the rest adding player & career attributes/stats

I do think though to do that feature you have to start at a set age like 32 onwards so it gives it that coming to the end of your career and making your first steps into managment feel.

honestly the idea of being a player manager doesn't appeal to me for several reasons some already stated:

it would only be good for lower leagues.

it wouldn't last too long, six seasons at the very maximum.

I think other things need to be tweaked or fixed before adding what would be a huge update to the game.

So let's say si put this into the game, your playing bam out for eight months with a serious injury that requires specialist treatment? Big red game over screen? Auto holiday for that period of time?

I think this addition would cause more problems for the masses for a short lived enjoyment of the minor.

But for it to work you would have to control the player yourself, right? And that would be impossible, given the way the match engine works.

I can see why people would want this but for me it's a no. There are the odd times i put myself into the data base but thats as a youth with a random PA

Oh I just thought, someone said "you wouldn't have to use it".

Let's face it people are never happy, they will demand additions to it and would inflate the game size hugely so for that guy that has a low end desktop just wants to play fm, with these proposed updates he cannot.

Simply suggesting an idea and saying it would be great is not enough you really need to think on behalf of the negative people aswell but even before that make sure you know exactly what your suggesting and what would be required to implement this.
