Work Permit question

Quick question.....I have a 23yr old player from Brazil who has been on my squad for 3 seasons.....why when I offer him a new contract does it say he needs a work permit? Then it gets rejected??

Basically players who come from outside the European zone (South America, Africa, Asia) need to achieve a work permit. Which will legitimize their stay in that country and of course their work as a footballer.

There are certain criteria which grant you an automatic work permit, like international appearances, or you already played for another club in Europe. But this only applies if you played 75% of the available games in one season (if I'm correct).

Its easier to achieve a work permit if a player already comes from Europe or you have the possibility to send him out on loan for 1 year, after that he will get the chance to play for you (Belgium is just one of the European country's where it's good to send a player)

but the thing I don't get is the kid has been on the team for 2 yrs already....so I am not sure how he got into the country in the first place? hahahaha

Some young players are given conditional work permits because they are considered at the time as being a very good young player, even though they would not have usually qualified for a work permit than say a 25 year old.

So, if the player does not play many games for you then they are unlikely to get a work permit if you try and renew their contract. It might be that they have not developed from that very good young player to a good older player.

If you have say 2 years on his contract left - leave him as after 5 years he will not need a work permit - then renew his contract.

no there isnt, everyone from outside the EU, footballer or non footballer has to have one to work in the UK, you can have as many players as you like, as long as they are established internationals or qualify under some nuance of the law.
