Homer Simpson 'D'oh' moments... What's the stupidest mistake you ever made?

I was running my usual League Two club and we were playing in the FA Cup at home to Liverpool.

As always in lower League stuff, you need the money, so I was desperate for a replay to earn some good gate money and clear my debt (with a bit left over)

I was 1-0 down doing into the last few minutes. A good achievement in itself against a club like Liverpool. But I wanted that replay so I did the traditional trick of throwing the 'keeper (and everyone else) up for a corner.

It worked brilliantly and although the 'keeper himself didn't score or anything, my striker somehow found some space and flicked in a near post header to make it 1-1 in about the 91st minute.

In my celebrations I totally forgot to go back into the tactics screen and set everyone defensive again from corners etc.

From the kick off, the Liverpool players lobbed the ball forward, I intercepted passed forward and won another corner... Up goes my 'keeper....

Headed clear, straight to the advanced Liverpool player who took two touches and scored from inside his own half as my 'keeper desperately runs back and I lose 2-1...

D'OH!!

in the title deciding match benfica v porto i inadvertidly left out cardozo and put a youngster in the starting eleven. when i realized it... D'oh!

over three seasons i sold all of my wingers as my tactic didnt use any and just overloaded with dmc.mc and amc.

now im after a tactic change i have no wingers at all!

i was andorra and had managed to go into the 85th minute of a European Qualifier (the 1st of the comp i mite add) 2-1 up at home to ireland.

Despite us both being fairly level in terms of chances and possetion, and my tactic working pretty well t be honest, i got scared and changed it from attacking to contain, and told everyone to get back and defend like thier lives depended on it.

of course this meant Ireland spent the last 8 minutes of the game just throwing everything at me in an attempt to salvage the game, and my teams stats were very poor and couldnt cope.

They scored a 90th minute equalizer, and after the game i realized if i had just left the tactic as it was i probably woulda got Andorras 1st evr competitive win.

D'oh!

I started a new save in Brazil and decided to bring in some cheap foreign talent. So I bought four overseas players, three in the side plus one as cover.

Then realised on the first day of the season that in Brazilian second division you can only pick ONE overseas player, not three.

Result: three players UNH from lack of first team football with all my transfer and wage budget spent.

Why don't you buy players that can play AMCLR etc and just play in CM and train for that postion.

Done this with Lansbury, Barazite and Rasmey, Sanches,

Trying to play the game starting as unexperienced and out of work manager.

Was informed "xxxxxxx has agreed terms with AC Milan", and at that point I realised that I'd forgotten to renew my star midfielder's contract.

Devastated.

Playing Barca in Caampions league and is 2-2 on the night and 3-3 on aggregate so i go defensive last 10 mins or so to hold out for extra time then with like 30 seconds left I remember it's away goals so go attacking too late and lose on away goals

Managing Zimbabwe in the African Nations qualifiers, where only the top team of the group progresses to the finals. My group contained Senegal, Libya and Niger. Took over after the first round of matches, where Zimbabwe drew at home to Niger.

My first match in charge, I somehow managed to smash Senegal 4-0! This was followed by two wins against Libya, putting me in a very strong position on top of the group.

Next up, Niger away. For some reason, I decided to try out some new players, give out some 1st caps etc. We end up losing 2-1. Then I realise that I have to play Senegal, away from home, in my last game, and I have to win to progress. Obviously we go there and get battered.

Why oh why didn't just play my full strength team against Niger?

I've had a few but can't remember exactly what they were atm. d'oh.......

Probably my biggest mistake this game is forgetting to bring in any young fellows against minnows in the cups.

On previous versions though I was a demon for swapping my goalie with a striker or, worse, an outfield sub, only to realise 25mins into the game when I was already 3-0 down. D'oh!

When asked to register players I forgot to register Dzeko, Di Maria and Camacho for my Newcastle team. All on deals over 48 months and high wages with a club with a terrible financial situation. Got into serious trouble in the first few months of the season.

i signed Adriano for my Celtic team, it wasn't until i put him up front in my team that i realised that it wasnt that Adriano but a 30 year old centre midfielder with terrible stats, the first and last time i didnt check that it was the correct player!

playing a cup match before a crucial top of the table clash.... i put in my 18 year old, never played a senior game, keeper to face the team from 2 Divisions below. i won, but lost 3 goals in the process (5-3 fwiw).

you can guess which one of my second string players i forgot to switch out before lining up against my great rivals. i didn't even notice till the 2nd goal in the first 10 minutes went in (names were similar). i actually staged something of a second half fightback but lost 3-2.

My players had 10 chances like this and they never shot. :/ (either wasted time or ran down the flank and crossed 2 mins later lol)

ive put a reserve in for a cup game and then forgot and played him in the next league game.

So many times... Select first eleven, go back and check tactics, everything looks great hit 'continue', and, d'oh!, immediately notice I've not selected any substitutes.

Most predictable outcome in FM? Select no substitutes; catch the injury bug pronto.

Guess I should consider smokin' the ganja only after selecting the squad. Although I also need to try to start remembering to take my amnesia medication. Sooo... What are the chances?

Accidentaly played my GK at AML because they both had the same surname.

accidentally changed my captain 3 times in two days. Completely ruined the squad morale and cost me my job at fulham after winning the carling cup and making it to the ECC

pc had issues, so instead of backing up data like any normal person, i simply sent my friend my FM save, when he sent me it back and i started up the game, it was the wrong save... thats my punishment for having so many arsenal saves and not knowing which is which -,-

I just forgot to register Jagalika for the euro cup groupe stage in the mp game i play as Everton, not a massive lose since he is crocked anyway, but still a silly mistake

There have been times in important matches where I'd forget to replace players with low conditions in my starting 11... So, I'd start up the match and realize that one or two of my players is running around with 50-60% condition. Needless to say, I would have to waste substitutions which put me in a bind later on.

I'm sure we've all played our reserve goalkeeper at right back and not noticed until half-time, right?

Bobby Robson had an IRL d'oh Football Manager-esque moment in the World Cup semi final in 1990. We had three goalies in the squad: 1st choice Shilton, reserve Chris Woods and penalty specialist Dave Beasant. It got to the end of extra time and Bobby Robson turned round to bring Beasant on. It was then that it was pointed out that, by mistake, he'd named Woods instead of Beasant as the reserve goalie (these were before your whole squad were subs). The rest is history.

For me, I had two players called Aaron Brown in my squad and I made the wrong one captain and annoyed the whole squad in doing so.

nothing major. I've done the thing where you have some weaker/younger players in for a cup/easy game and forget to put your first choice back in for a major game.

Yes, nothing major too, just sometimes forget to take playsrs out who are suffering with disability (under 70% condition).

A few years back on FM08 i was playing a network game in La Liga. The deadline came round to register my players and i ignored as i was still scouting a few players. I assumed it would come back up when the game continued. Instead i forgot about it until the first game of the season. Came to select my players and everyone was unregistered and would be until christmas and so only 16 year old regens could play until then! So that was the end of that game...

I did something similar with my first German game - I was enjoying the fact I didnt need to worry about work permits but forgot to check the league rules - the first game or two went ok because they were cup matches so there were no limitations BUT when it came time for my first league game about half my team was inelligable due to being non-EU

Was playing as Rangers and had a youth team out just before our first ever Champions League Final, for the Final I sorted out my whole team but accidentally left my Youth GK in the squad.

We won after I noticed and Immediately subbed him for out 1st choice who was on the bench.

Was close, heh.

I've made a couple of mistakes in my current game. I forgot to give a pre and half time teamtalk in a champions league match, thankfully it wasn't an important one. Also, scrolling up with my mac mouse to click play i clicked off giving a player a teamtalk pre-match, nothing i could do as i noticed it when i had clicked play lol. Last one was where i was so engrossed in a match i forgot about subs. I remembered at about 70 mins in lol.

Had taken Eastwood Town from BSN to Championship when another Championship team approached me, I had no interest in the job, I was trying to win the Champions League with Eastwood, but I viewed the job offer as I always do, and I clicked accept without realising...

Not my worst blunder but I was playing a cup tie recently and midway through was wondering what the rules were if it ended a draw at 90 minutes (extra time or replay?). I couldn't find the screen that tells you (anyone know where to find it these days?), so didn't use any subs just in case we'd have to play extra time. 90 minutes came and it was penalties straight away. All my good penalty takers were still on the bench and we went out.

I was managing Napoli,and was playing my last match before quitting for the day.I was playing against a weak side(chievo)at home and i expected an easy win that would have secured my CL entrance.

Unfortunately my GK got injured by the 20th minute and i found out i had forgotten to put a GK in the subs,so i was forced to play a midfielder as GK,and ended up drawing the game 2-2....talk about 2 points completely thrown away like a ******...

Forgot to pre-contract an excellent youth prospect and off he went and jumped to Celtic on a free the second he turned 17

I was Havant and W and released some players and all my youths to free up some wage budget. Got to first game of season and my only get's keeper sent off. Next game is on the monday after so I have to play with a centre back in goal and I lose 6-0.
