Football Manager 2007

Recommended Posts

I'm going to be getting this game very soon as it was my favourite ever FM.

I didn't buy FM10 and I've had a little break from FM for the past few weeks and I was just wondering if everyone could share their experience on FM2007.

Your longest career or who I should go.

I'm looking at playing in England, Italy or Spain.

I was thinking of going Juventus, Sheffiled United or Watford.

Hiya, I posted a thing about the old football manager days because Im getting a little bored of football manager 2010, Dont ask me why. Dont get me wrong football manager 2010 is brilliant but it just hasn't got the same feel to it as say football manager 2008. Football manager 2008 is the lowest Ive gone to, I haven't played on 2007. Is it good?

The only issue I have with 2008 is the players dont seem to tackle whatsoever, this could be my fault for not updating the patched etc :)

My longest save is with SL Benfica the year 2014\2015, but I started again making the Portuguese League the best in the world. That is because I'm Benfica fan.

I also have another save with a friend with me being Chelsea and my friend Man United, to year 2015\2016, but at the end of this season we decided to re-start it again, with a few minor rules that we had (rules added in the editor: we could choose one player that we really want and choose a Portuguese club to be our affiliated).

Without a doubt the FM I played the most. I'm playing it for 3 years and half.

Yes they do, but most frequent tackles is clearing the ball away, the put the ball out of play or give the opposition a corner. This last one is frequent if a winger moves up the field and a defender intercepts the cross. So it is more of a interception.

I suffered and scored goals that was due to a tackle and most tackles concluded in a counter-attack, which where scored.

FM2007 was also my favourite in the series as well. I had some great saves which included:

A Nottingham Forest save where I took them from League One to the Prem and had them challenging for the top honours every year. Never quite managed to win the Prem but I had a great side full of players I actually liked rather than the players most people sign on every save. I had Nathan Delfouneso and Alan Smith as my front two with an aging Thierry Henry providing cover. Jack Hobbs and Jack Cork as my central defenders and Kris Commons was still in the side!

I had a great save with a Norwegian side called Frigg Oslo who don't start in the game but I'd holidayed through the first season and then took charge of them at the lowest level in Norway. They started off with no players at all but after around 15 seasons I had establishhed them as the biggest team in Norway and was getting decent runs in the Champion's League. What pleased me most was that it was an all Norwegian side with the likes of Daniel Fredheim Holm, Magnus Eirkrem, Havard Nordtveit, Steffen Iversen towards the end of his career and a load of great Norwegian regens.

But by far my favourite save would also have to be my longest one. I started off managing Basel in Switzerland and built up a great side over 6 seasons that dominated domestically. I had Nathan Sturgis as the club's captain, Bojan upfront, Litmanen pulling the strings in the early days, Lauri Dalla Valle doing great things despite his young age and an amazing Swiss regen called Ingo Rose who came through the academy and was a regular in central defence from the age of 17! what was great about Rose was that he was a dead-ball specialist and scored over 100 career goals for me at Basel. I also had a neat corner routine set up where my best header would flick the ball into the net at the near post and this routine aswell as his free kick antics meant that in his record season Rose managed to score 36 goals in all competitions from central defence!

However I was growing frustrated at the fact that the board kept knocking me back for stadium increases and Dalle Valle, Ingo Rose and a few other class young regens were constantly wanting to leave for bigger clubs so I eventually decided to go to one of these bigger clubs myself where that kind of thing wouldn't be a problem. So half way through the 6th season I resigned and took up the job as manager of Juventus who were fourth in Serie A. I splashed out £20 million to bring Dalle Valle and Ingo Rose to Juve and after incorperating my tactics from my Basel days we went on an unbelievable run that eventually saw us crowned champions on the last day of the season thanks to other results also going our way!

My time at Juve ran to 2023 and was so enjoyable that I continued playing that save throughout FM's 08 and 09 and only started FM2010 when my old hard drive crashed and I lost my old FM2007 saves!

I won the league every year with Juve and throughout the years managed the likes of Gattuso, Pirlo, Ronaldinho and Huntelaar. Evetually with the exeption of Dalle Valle the team was made up completely of world class Italian regens who had all matured together and played the best football I've ever seen on any version of FM. I even contemplated ordering a Juve shirt from kitbag with Dario 4 on the back in honour of the clubs captain Michele Dario who was my deep laying play-maker in the mould of Pirlo, he has around 8 or 9 ppm's and bossed the midfield.

I also had Del Pierro and Buffon as my two assistants and I had Nedved and Edgar Davids on the coaching staff!

I can't see me ever having a save long or as enjoyable as that one again.

Happy days!

I'm all for being Atlético.

In addition to the obvious Torres/Agüero, I can also recommend Falcao, Iaquinta... and Fred isn't half bad either, really.

Aaaaaand Petrov was an absolute powerhouse on the left wing, before I sold him.

Jack Hobbs and Jack Cork as my central defenders and Kris Commons was still in the side!

Hobbs is an immense, often godlike player in 07. Or was for me. He's best when homegrown for your club. Think I loaned him for two seasons (just put him in my reserves/u19, wanted him to be homegrown) and then signed him on a free when his Liverpool contract expired.

My FM07/Atlético squad

I only bought Gerrard and Kaka because I had too much cash on my hands. They never justified the price.

I didn't like 08, it seemed to be all about constantly tweaking your tactics (before, during and after every match) or being mercilessly crushed.

I have jumped from FM 2007 to FM 2010, and IMHO it takes a lot of getting used to.

I found FM2007 to be very user friendly, with much improvements on prveious incarnations of the game, and my only career on there was with Iverpool, and am now in 2039 having won the premier league 18 times, (top 4 every year I have been there) 6 FA cup victories, 9 league cup wins, 13 Champions League Titles and 12 Club World Championship successes. Thats not to mention the £100+ million I now have in the bank, and the stadium capicity of 74000 I can now fit into Anfield. Not sure where they all go, as anyone who has actually been to Anfield, would start to be sitting in the clouds with a capacity that high (bearing in mind thats why LFC in real life are looking at a new stadium). but I'm not complaining.

Thinking of going back to it at some point to manage in the J League or somewhere very obscure to see what I can do there.
