MIR17
The idea of fixed rivalry needs to be changed to a continuous one imo, because teams change divisions too often and if a smaller team spends many seasons in a division above its traditional standings, or many seasons below its traditional standings its rivalries will change. I was thinking could you give teams potential ratings for their rivalry as you give players potential ratings? For example. Leicester vs Northampton has always been a big rivalry in rugby and cricket and there's been a lot of historical significance between the 2 counties. However, there is liittle rivalry between the 2 football teams as Leicester have always been a top 2 division side and Northampton a 3rd & 4th tier side. They've only met on 2 or 3 seasons in the league in history. However, if they were in the same division for several years a rivalry would definitely form, especially if neither club's current big rivals were in the same division as them. Ditto, if one of the non-league Leicestershire sides (like Hinckley or Loughborough) got promoted to league a rivalry would definitely form. Also, if 2 big rivals go 15 years without playing a team, those rivalries will dwindle if there are teams in their new division they can form/intensify rivalries with. MartinGregory84
I want to make one point to that I agree fully I dont like the fact that when Gateshead get promoted they aint rivals with Newcastle even if they are in the same division. Would make sense really.
dragonheat
good idea but some rivalries will never die like Leeds and them across the Pennines. I use fmrte to create rivalries when I take small clubs up through the ranks (which for me creates a bit more realistic game)
Dob1
Would also help in Italy too. If you get the chance, look at Napoli's rivals. They have 23 rivals or there abouts. I'd love a new category too, such as "Rivals", "Fierce Rivals", and "Enemies" or something similar. Just to split certain rivalries (Ie. Rome-Lazio, Celtic-Rangers etc.)
