Does the mentality slider determine how far up the pitch your midfielders position is

I want my 2 MC's play a little closer to my CB's, but not like in DM C position. Can that be accomplished with the mentality slider?

Also, doesn't mentality slider have an affect on where your players chose to pass the ball? All I want is to make my MC's play a little closer to my defence, but I don't want to see them passing the ball to each other all the time, or back to the defenders.

Should I shift the mentality slider to the left a little and shift the passing slider to the right, to counteract?

Thanks, but that's not what I want. I want them to be still in M C position, in 'ball winning midfielder' role.

Then put then on Ball Winning Midfielder with a Defend duty. This will mean they don't stray too far forward.

Mentality slider does not determine where they line up on the pitch, only how defensive/attacking they play.
