Question regarding how research is done on players

I just stumbled across something on the forums that I was curious about. In another thread someone mentioned that:

Well, the attribute has a weighting of 3.00 in the research editor for strikers - which is quite alot. Strikers need good positioning in order to place himself in a good position to cut passing lanes as the opposition tries to build play from the back.

I have never really thought about how researchers for the game score people when they provide their information to SI before. Does anyone have any information on this?

In particular I was curious about the 'weightings' for each position. I presume this would give a indication of what stats are more important for each position. Does anyone know if this kind of information is available anywhere?
