You know how the current Nickname system is more of a Rename Player feature than an actual nickname. I was thinking that might be fun to have the ability to add nicknames to the players - visible only in their profiles and of course the odd time during a match maybe the commentator can address them as this.

Something like having Wazza for Rooney in his profile. It can even be taken to another level by the game assigning nicknames which you would be able to see as:
(new field)
Nickname: The team affectionately came to call player X - 'Torpedo' for his amazing right wing dashes.

Just an example :D Of course this won't happen for every single player, more of a rare occurrence that can spice up the repeating atmosphere.

Actually that's a pretty good call. In the editor clubs can have 2 or 3 nicknames, so why not players?

Good idea. I wouldn't like to have Mourinho constantly listed as "The Special One", but it would be nice if they used this nickname in press conferences / news items.

Or when your team wins a vital match thanks to one player, headings like, "Who needs batman, when you got Robben"

Can't you already give players a nickname if I'm not mistaken

Couldn't you have actually read the original post instead just the title?

I suppose that would be a bit better if it wasn't the whole name that was replaced

Sorta....what it does is renames the player, but to the rest of the fm world he still goes by the name that is in the database. if you wanted to call messi 'untouchable', on your screens 'untouchable' would show up but to everyone else he still is messi.
