Although you could point out that, in real life, Spain's reputation shot up after Barcelona beat Manchester United (regardless of what else happened in the Champions League or UEFA Cup). I generally think that, if there are changes, they need to be VERY incremental and over long periods of time...so much so that a ten year save might not even notice them. In fifty years, though, who knows what'll happen (maybe five tycoons took over Ajax, PSV, Feyenoord, VVV, and FC Twente; that'd make the Eredivisie quite the draw, and also pretty competitive).
