Offside?

Recommended Posts

You cannot be offside if:

  • You receive the ball directly from an opposition player
  • You receive the ball directly from a throw in, corner kick or goal kick
  • You are in your own half when the ball is played
  • You are behind or level with the second last defender or the ball, when the ball is played.

Offside is so messed up these times its hard to say whats on and off :D

Arsène Wenger, is that you? :p

But yeah, to an extent it is rather complicated - because the rule states that you're committing an offense if you "interfere with play" while in an offside position, it's immensely down to interpretation. A couple of years ago Radhi Jaidi had a tendency during free kicks of standing behind the wall, in an offside position, and jumping around to try and distract the goalkeeper. Surely then he's interfering with play and should be punished?
