That's like the lower league jackpot, I was lucky enough to get them last year with St****s, made me about £1m while in the Conference.

Hi all.

I here frequently of the joys of the infamous Dafuge challenge, so i thought i'd give it a go this year! I'm in the process of registering with the website (and photobucket) having just become manager of Tiverton Town!

Can anyone offer me, as a complete beginner to this challenge, any words of wisdom and advice for my first few months in charge??

Thanks in advance (and i shall post my profile pic as soon as i have it on photobucket),

No it wasn't, it was completely a joke http://community.sigames.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif.

There are no easy teams and no tactics that make the game easy and nothing but hard work brings you success, (unless you use the editor) http://community.sigames.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_mad.gif. Loads of people play in their own little way and we all co-exist beside eachother in harmony most of the time.

We had a bit of a an issue with people bringing in talented foreigners, but that was dealt with by the "scout or trial rule", earlier in this thread we had issues with, "unrealistic money spinning frendlies", abusing flaws in the game, and I personally have an issue with the loaning of quality players from the likes of Bristol City to some carppy little Conference North/South side, (someone remind me to request that in next years challenge we limit a loan player dropping down to a maximim of 3 divisions), and also this year there seems to be a prevelance of people using the "no club" search to check for talented foreigners, (Islanders), and then getting them in on trial to circumvent the existing rule. I don't like that so I don't do it, that's not to mean that nobody else should either.

Anyone who gets anywhere near to completing this challenge without using the editor and without using a scouting tool deserves the utmost respect. I will spend a lot of time playing this game, (as I have done in previous issues), but let's be honest, whether or not I actually ever manage to complete this challenge is completely irrelevant as that is not what this is about. There is absolutely no competition between us and that is why we share info on tactics and decent players and we enjoy each others success. Gloating and bragging is allowed in this thread but be warned, the FM Gods see all and they always get their revenge.

using no club to search for players would be wrong, but i should point out the islanders come up on the player search screen as they have english nationality and if its good enough for dafuge who admits to signing some. I don't really think it is any different to signing irish or scottish players after a trial who you also can't scout at the start yet i would imagine nearly everyone does. Only way to stop this would be to say only sign players you can scout no exceptions.

Its just taken my about 3 hours at work to read all the updates since i was last on on Sunday. I cant believe how quickly some of you manage to get through the seasons.

im still in the 1st season with 7 games to play and have had a bit of a slump 2nd have of the season but at the minute am just about hanging on to 5th position and the final play off spot.

Im at work so will post screenshots when i get home but all 3 players ive brought in to strengthen the squad since january all got injured in their 1st couple of games. Scott McGliesh made 2 sub appearences then had to be released as he tore his calf and wouldnt be playing again.

Hoping to get the 7 games played tonight before footie training and with a bit of luck will be playing in the play-offs tomorrow night.

Congratulations to everyone who has achieved promotions in the last few days and to those that havent i hope your still enjoying the challange. I am

Spend ages deciding which players you sign, getting the right players early on can make all the difference.

It also helps to get all your players on full time contracts as soon as possible.

Season 2008/09 Review – AFC Wimbledon in the Blue Square South - phil1987
<STRIKE>************************************************** ************************</STRIKE>

Once taking over the reigns at AFC Wimbledon I decided that if I was to be promoted I’d have to invest heavily, so I signed 16 players on free transfers and I counter the wage bill I got rid of 6 pieces of “dead wood” http://community.sigames.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif. Had a very good start to the season and it was clear from the start I’d achieve more than the 8th position predicted by the media.

Although Loan signing 1 (http://aycu09.webshots.com/image/32848/2005626624191185147_rs.jpg)my league form was good, my cup competitions weren’t as great as I tried to do an “Arsene” and give the youngsters a run out. Needless to say I got knocked out in the first round of all the cups entered.

How do you all pick the teams you started with. Having been sacked from Hendon (my local), and having a really bad time with Boreham Wood (also local), I really have no idea who to pick for my next attempt.

Harrow and Hemel Hempstead are also local teams for me, but I dont know if I have the energy to do the reloading to get them.

Hendon - 2009/2010 Blue Square South - Roundup

My starting goal for this season was to not get relegated. This was decided on quite early as it was unclear what state the club would find itself. No staff and a hand full of youth players was how I was greeted.

My first task as manager was to advertise for an Assistant Manager. This was to take a while, so I set about implementing my training regime and setting up my 4-1-4-1 system. After a two week advert I received a number of applications from staff at other football clubs, but due to the finances at Hendon I would not of been able to pay the compensation due. With one standout application Kevin Donovan, who I knew quite well from my days watching the Albion, was invited to take up the position.

Once Kevin had been employed, a barrage of staff and player was to ensue. At this time, team understanding was at an all time low with so many new players and staff incoming. This really did concern me, as most of the players had low morale along with this. A careful pre-season was to follow, with a lot of effort put in to building up the players moral, by not being too harsh on any problems that occurred. By the end of pre-season the teams understanding hadn't improved much but the players morale was at a good standing.

Our 09/10 Season was full of mixed fortunes, we would go on runs of not losing and runs of losing, looks like we really have got the runs. This being said we found out self 5th going into the last game of the season, with a win taking us into the playoffs. Going into the game my first choice goalkeeper Steele sustained a chest injury. I was just not able to bring myself to asking him to take an Injection. With this choice I hope to have him back in a week rather than a month. Sadly we managed to throw the game against Bognor away losing 4-2 with a goal disallowed. Needless to say Bath won their game taking them into the last play-off spot.

At the start of the season I would of been happy with a top half finish, but I am now gutted that we managed to miss out on the playoffs in the last game of the season. I guess this fits into our five year plan of winning the Blue Square South and I should have the foundations of a team that is capable of winning the league. All that is needed is a few more signings to replace the loan players and shore up the defence. hopefully with the increased reputation we should have from this season I will be able to attract more talent.

Part of the way through the season I decided to terminate our agreement with our parent club, Woking, as I saw no real benefits from our side of the agreement as they sent no players and were only one league above us. I will be re-evaluating the parent club situation at the beginning of next season.

Blue Square South: 6th
FA Cup: Lost in Third Qualifying Round
English FA Trophy: Lost in Third Qualifying Round
Setanta Shield: Lost in Fourth Round

Conclusions on the game:

• One thing I have noticed is that players from bigger clubs in your area seem more likely to be interested in coming on loan to you.
• Would it be realistic for a Blue Square South side to send a scout to the world cup final? Or would he just be watching it at home on TV?
• One of my players is on a part time contract, aged 20. Cardiff offer him a contract as his is expiring and he signs, but I don't get anything for him. Don't you get compo for players under 24?

May be best to provide a screenshot showing you can scout him, to prove everything is above board.

First off, KUTGW folks! I love reading everyone's updates, the more detail the better! Love to see the different avenues that everyone takes on ultimately the same journey!!

On a side note, I'm getting really worried about the bug with the long term goals.

It's being mentioned in my monthly confidence summary every time now, about how they are disappointed that we are not trying to achieve the 5 year plan (Win the Blue Square South) when I'm hoping to get promoted from the BS Premier this season.

Think I might keep a few backup saves in case it all goes Pete Tong, and use them when the patch emerges...

You can only ask for a parent club every 6 months.

I suggest that you wait until the option is no longer greyed out, then cancel the agreement with Yeovil and wait a couple of days after confirmation cancellation before asking for another parent club. </div></BLOCKQUOTE>

thanks for that. i wasn't sure whether you were able to ask for a new parent club straight after cancelling one or not, especially as i hadn't done it before, especially with having played the game alot... i will wait

I had something similar... I had 2 successive promotions at the start of the game. Between the 2nd promotion and the end of the season, the long term confidence bar went right down to zero.

Now I'm in League 2, the board have given me a new 2 year plan to survive in L2, and everything seems ok again.

My advice to people is that they should learn to find players that suit their own tactics, a player that plays well for one manager may be not as good when playing for another.

Learning the relationships between player attributes and tactics is the key to becoming good at the game.

No problem.

Just to give you an example, if your tactics rely on getting lots of crosses into the box, look for wingers with good crossing attributes and strikers who are good at jumping and heading.

I prefer to play with wingers who can put my strikers through on goal, so I look for wingers with good passing and creativity attributes and strikers with good pace, acceleration and finishing.

You'd be amazed how just a few high key attributes can make a player effective in the lower leagues.

I also find composure and off the ball attributes are key for a striker who runs onto through balls.

i started with a tactic involving quick wingers, wide play, a target man and a qick finisher.

after half a season i was forced, due to injuries and suspension to play a narrow game with no target man. it worked like a a dream!

now halfway through my second season and my new players, brought in to accomodate my new tactic, are starting to gel and its looking pretty rosy.

i think the lesson here is you should always be prepared to adapt your players and tactics and never fear change.

I know I said I wouldn't start another game until the patch arrived, but who am I kidding? http://community.sigames.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

I've gone for the mighty Gloucester City and of course had to sign a whole new squad. I decided to try and get players who are released by clubs in the Championship and League One,and that has paid of because after 9 games we're sitting ninth in the table with 13 points http://community.sigames.com/customicons/icon14.gif. We've only lost 2 games and in them we conceded some silly late goals.

Thats a big improvement from my game with Stamford were I could hardly score and couldn't buy a win. But now I've found a solid tactic and some good players and things are looking good. http://community.sigames.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Tiverton Town in the Blue Square Conference South
End of Season 2008/09

Well, I suppose I will start the season review at the end.

Final League Table (http://i101.photobucket.com/albums/m52/supermas_2006/BSS0809.jpg)

We finished in 7th place in the Conference South, and while a good achievement, I am sure we could have bettered it, but for a very poor start at home. After our 5-1 win against Braintree in our first home league game, we only managed 2 wins in our next 10 home games. Far too many games were drawn at home, and despite our better home form from December to the end of the season ,we managed only 9 wins out of 21, with 9 draws and 3 defeats.

Away from home we started fairly strongly, although in the middle of the season, around January-time, we struggled away from home, mainly due to the injury to our target man and our failure to find a new tactic.

Overall, we were never in danger of relegation, but we always looked slightly to far adrift of catching the playoff contenders as the graph (http://i101.photobucket.com/albums/m52/supermas_2006/BSS0809graph.jpg) shows.

Onto the players, and our Top Scorer with 17 goals in 28 starts in the league was 21 year old Andy Caton (http://i101.photobucket.com/albums/m52/supermas_2006/andycaton0809.jpg), although as you can see - his own form tailed off toward the end of the season. Despite his poor technical stats, his pace seems to mean defenders struggle to contain him.

The club captain was another striker, and our target man. He is good in the air, and managed 14 goals in 31 league starts, although his contribution to the team was more than goals. He went through a bad patch after a hamstring injury, and this dragged his average rating down, but he came back into form towards the end of the season - and he is... Drewe Broughton (http://i101.photobucket.com/albums/m52/supermas_2006/drewebroughton0809.jpg).

In terms of other competitions:
FA Cup - 4th Qualifying Round (Lost 2-1 at home to Torquay)
Setanta Shield - 4th Round (Lost 2-1 at home to Altrincham)
FA Trophy - 2nd Round (Lost 2-0 away at Weymouth)

Next season, I would hope for a better start to my home league campaign, and I think with the current bunch of players we should be able to push for the playoffs. I hope I can strengthen the squad, although it does seem to be hard to find any more good players (especially with the Medium database http://community.sigames.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_rolleyes.gif )

And one last result for Dafuge : From the reserve match (http://i101.photobucket.com/albums/m52/supermas_2006/onefordafuge.jpg)

Hope you enjoyed the read http://community.sigames.com/customicons/icon14.gif

Well after last seasons acheivements of a playoff and FA trophy win the chippenham faithfull where hoping that Manager James Leedham could pull of another magic trick with his first year in the Blue Square Premiership.

Despite a media prediction that they would go straight back down and the boards asperations of only battling bravely against relegation Leedham desicded to tell the fans and board that his chippenham squad where in for the long haul and promised to avoid the drop.

despite his confidence the pre-season results and first 7 games of the season left fans accepting that they would be back in the BS south next season and media moguls looking smug in there predictions.

But from game 8 onwards the new players started to gel and a few scrapped 1-0 wins and a 7 game unbeaten run they started to claw there way up the table and finnished there first season in the dizzy heights of 13th place.

Leedham blamed the poor start on the unwillingness of 2 season star striker Vicktor Illugason (http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b219/jsar/new/viktor0910.jpg) to spend another loan spell at Chippenham, and the time it took replacement strikers Kris Renton (http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b219/jsar/fm1011/renton.jpg) and Dean Oliver (http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b219/jsar/fm1011/playeroftheyear.jpg) to find there shooting boots.

John Morgan (http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b219/jsar/fm1011/morgan.jpg) continued his fledging carrer with Chippenham making 40 appreances for the club and netting 5 goals. As well as making four more appearances for his national side and scoring his first international goal.

Chippenhams Cup success last year led the fans to belive they may have a chance at another lucrative cup run this year but hopes where shattered with the bluebirds going out early in all 3 competitions in the early stages.

I've signed a few of these islanders after taking them on trial first. All of them appeared in my player search screen, and since the player search screen is limited by your scouting knowledge I consider this to be a legitimate way of finding players.

This is one of the LLM rules which I disagree with, I believe that the player search list is generated according to your staff's knowledge, so indirectly every player on that list is there because of your scouts and coaches. In a way, every player on that list has already been picked out by your scouts, whether your board will sanction a trip abroad to actually watch him play is another thing.

Using the text box to search for players is something I would never do, but since it is not against the rules it is up to individuals to decide whether they want to use it or not.

I quite like the way lots of people have their own personal restrictions on the rules in their games, creates some interesting discussions.

Unlucky on missing out on the playoffs, perhaps you'll find the second season in that division a bit easier like I did.

Dafuge, i'm in agreement with you on this one. If they appear within the search network of available players and will come on trial then i see nothing wrong with attempting to attract them and see if they will sign.
Surely the available players are related to your knowledge, including that of your staffs, and reflects who you may of heard of. For example, if you have a German scout signed then he is likely to have heard of more German players than you and therefore increase the number of players available to select from.
I can see Jimbo's point regarding League differences and maybe a limit of 2 or 3 leagues difference in standard in future would be more appropriate. Let's face it you ain't likely to get a player from Chelsea reserves playing for a BSS team IRL are you!

The manhood thing at the front was mostly a joke

</div></BLOCKQUOTE>

My mistake.

I wrongly assumed that people were signing the Islanders via the "no club" search.

I've got no problem with that at all.

Yeah, hopefully i will do - I think our poor start really came back to haunt us, and we were always playing catch up. I think, in terms of the quality of the players, we should be able to do better this season.

I have made a tactic change after my previous working 4-4-2 diamond (wide) began to falter. I have reverted back to the good old 3-2-2-1-2 which kept me up in the first season.

With the transfer window open it looks very bleak with regards to improving the squad, but in all honesty the FREDs are improving at a dramatic rate many clubs in for most of them now including Sheffield United and Prestion! http://community.sigames.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_redface.gif Stamford 10/11 : Conference Prem: January Report

A lot of regens seems to be appearing on our player search screen that come from British overseas territories, probably because they have English as a second nationality. They aren't world beaters but a lot of them seem pretty good for the lower leagues.

To be fair, you didn't meet the boards expectations which is never going to go down well when your contract is up for renewal.

If it is a bug, a few of us will lose our jobs and have to start again when the patch is released which should fix it, we will not use an editor to cheat.

Sometimes the game dishes out a few surprises that we don't think are fair, like the St****s incident, we just have to get on with it and move on, without feeling bitter about it afterwards.

Ok, some maybe a little bit of bitterness http://community.sigames.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

Perhaps it is a bug, but it just sounds like you told them you were going to do better in League 2 than you actually did, so they sacked you - maybe it is not fair, but people get sacked as a result of takeovers etc., it might be annoying but it is part of the game - just like losing or injuries.

My team is playing so inconsistently at the moment.
In the league so far, we won just 2 of the first 11 games, then 6 of the next 7 games, and now haven't won in the last 5. We seem to be playing better football now, things just aren't going our way.

If you're in your first season then things will settle down a little when the team starts to gel.
I had some indifferrent results as the start of the season and things got much better when the team gelled and the strikers apparently developed a telepatich link, until Baidoo got injured of course http://community.sigames.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_frown.gif

Sometimes you do need to tweak your tactics a little to get back into the winning mentality, e.g. play a little more defensively at home to grind out a result.

I know, it'll take time to get things sorted, just need to get it back on track. It was quite frustrating though, after our very poor start, I altered my tactics and suddenly we were brilliant, as I said, winning 6 in 7 league games, two of which were 5-0 and 5-1 away from home. Then suddenly it all changed again.
I've been trying to tweak my tactics over the last couple of games, but so far to no avail. I think it might just be a case of our strikers not actually being good enough!

Professor Mandias - Wimbledon - Blue Square South.

After doing the 06 and 07 challenges alone I decided to give it a try and post here my achievements.

Since I'm not well experienced with lower league teams I had took AFC Wimbledon for this game.

The manager screenshot is from November but I guess that'll be okay for you guys.

Okay, let's cut the mambo jambo.

The link with Crystal Palace looks really promising as I have loaned many players from them. Some free tranfers as well and even buying Cherno Samba due to adjusting my transfer budget showed that my team could really mount a serious challenge to the other teams going for the tittle.

Here are some screenshots.

Tranfers. (http://img118.imageshack.us/img118/1786/tranferswp2.jpg)

I'm in November now playing a 4-1-2-1-2 wide with target man and playmaker.

These are some of my stars players so far.

Samba. (http://img118.imageshack.us/img118/1838/sambadx8.jpg)

Due to a excellent form I'm currently top of the league and have acchieved some great results in the cups (I don't understand why so many since I always play in Italy and Spain).

League Table so far. (http://img231.imageshack.us/img231/1166/tableuy1.jpg)

Any requests for screenshot feel free to ask as I know that my team is playing far beyond expectations and this might raise some doubts.

If I have made some mistake please let me know as I'd like to play this challeng like everyone else.

Sorry for being thick here but a couple of related questions

1) I have noticed a player in my first season in october who has one of the West indian Islands (cannot remember which) as his nationality but a birth place of London - is this to early in the game for him to be an example of the players you are talking about? Or does the birth place indicate he is different anyway - are all these other guys actually born in the West Indies??

2) What is the "no club search". I know this may sound like I want to know how to "cheat" but actually I am concerned I may have broken this rule without realising it so could someone please explain?

Thanks guys

The playoff spot is mine (http://static.pici.se/pictures/xYjrnbSHv.png)!
Results elsewhere in the league are really going my way right now. Beating Tamworth (http://static.pici.se/pictures/xClaZKkDp.png) helped too.

Looks like my board still wants me around (http://static.pici.se/pictures/nOgsnzAns.png) too, which is rather relieving considering the experience of some other participants in this challenge.

Oh, and can they get any more annoying (http://static.pici.se/pictures/vMRLgowIV.png)?! Sure, they're transfer listed by request and I guess want to stay now, but I'm not about to keep them just because the rest of the team is doing well without them. http://community.sigames.com/customicons/icon13.gif

As you can see im playing fairly well at the moment, on a 3 match winning streak and players seem to be playing better.

Kyle Wilson and Kirk Hudson have been fairly ok so far http://community.sigames.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif they've scored important goals.

Also got a loan striker from Crewe (my parent) who has some pace and 12 finishing, so he hasn't been to bad.

Switched from a 4-4-2 to a 4-4-2 Diamond now its finally starting to take shape im playing some great football now http://community.sigames.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif http://community.sigames.com/customicons/icon14.gif

1. He could well be, although all of mine were born abroad.

2. It's basically any method of finding players other than your scout reports and your player search screen, a way of finding players who are not within the bounds of your scouting knowledge. Just avoid using the text box to search for players.

League Table (http://i236.photobucket.com/albums/ff262/paulsgruff_fm/table.jpg)

It is my 5th season in charge, I've never finished higher than 10th and I have a horrible feeling that it's all going to go wrong in my last league game.

I'm playing Bath away, who are way down the bottom of the table, but I have never beaten them at their place. To make matters worse, the 2 teams that can catch me (Brombley and AFC Wimbledon) play each other as their last fixture. If I lose and they draw, I miss out on goal difference, if I draw and Bromley win, they leapfrog me on points. It's pretty nerve wracking and I really don't want to start this last game http://community.sigames.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

My last game totally didn't go to plan. Wimbledon beat Bromley (http://i236.photobucket.com/albums/ff262/paulsgruff_fm/wimbledon.jpg) and I was 1-0 down to bath for nearly the entire match. Then Kevin Fields (http://i236.photobucket.com/albums/ff262/paulsgruff_fm/hero.jpg) belted in a shot from 25 yards with only 8 minutes to go that earned us a draw that we totally didn't deserve, and we clinched the playoff place by 1 point (http://i236.photobucket.com/albums/ff262/paulsgruff_fm/finaltable.jpg) - when if that goal hadn't gone in, we would have lost it on goal difference. http://community.sigames.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Have had major downturn in attendances from averaging over 1000 in first season(finished 2nd) to a paltry 168(5th at present) for this game against worcester!

in need of a fans day methinks?

on a more positive note i think either worcester manager put the wrong player in or his tactics were shocking. I scored after 29 seconds btw.

Awful start by my Hitchin side. Played 18 and have just 14 points, currently second bottom. Amazingly in our last game we beat the league leaders Dorchester 3-0 so I'm hoping that we may finally have a decent run of results.

League Table 2008-09 (http://i154.photobucket.com/albums/s254/Gitos/LeagueTable2008-09-1.jpg)

We led the line from 21 games, are start was awful, after finally gaining top place we only slipped to third, but came back to first after 26 games and haven't looked back since, Bostock and Sheringham proved to be a revelation banging in 26 goals together and Bostock banging 13 assists, the cups sucked arse getting knocked out at the first round of the s**t Sentana Shield by ribbish Welling, we lost in the fourth qualiyfying Round to Team Bath 2-0!, next season looks tough but if I can fill the gaps and re-loan the players(I have Crystal Palace as my Parent Club) then I should easily Stay up in the Conference National.

Not exceptionally. He did really well for me in the Blue Square South, but I bought/loaned better left wingers for the Blue Square Premier season, so he's mostly just played cup games and the occasional league game when I've had injury problems. Offered him out to clubs for nothing, negotiated to £55k and they took it. http://community.sigames.com/customicons/icon14.gif
Looking at their squad, he's their only left midfielder. That probably had something to do with it.

AFC Hornchurch - Blue Square South - Playoff Semi-Final First Leg 2012/13
I'm so happy with this result, my team played out of their skin considering Weymouth battered us 4-0 the last time we played each other.

Match Overview (http://i236.photobucket.com/albums/ff262/paulsgruff_fm/firstlegofplayoff.jpg)

It's great that Bradley Eames (http://i236.photobucket.com/albums/ff262/paulsgruff_fm/bradleyeames.jpg) scored the winning goal in the match, as he is the only player in my first team that actually came through as a youth player (http://i236.photobucket.com/albums/ff262/paulsgruff_fm/bradleyeameshistory.jpg) at the club. Also Lewis Christon (my centre back) managed to hit the crossbar from just inside the oppositions half when he tried to lob the goalie who was out of his box. What a goal that would have been. Just got to keep a solid defence in the second leg now.

I don't think it was a bug though, you simply underperformed. </div></BLOCKQUOTE>

2 days before I was sacked the long term goals thing was full as id surpassed their expectations but they were disppointed in my performance in league 2. At this time the board were "pleased" with my performance. As soon as the season finished(19th June) I was sacked. My mate (NUFCSean on here) was there at the time and has posted about this.

People who are saying I should start again, why? It will just happen again and will probably happen to everyone else on here. </div></BLOCKQUOTE>

I went back to your initial post just to check. Your first screenshot shows the bar empty on June 3rd, which is far more than 2 days before you were "sacked". Which btw, if im reading screenshot 3 correct, you were never sacked. Your contract expired and the board chose not to offer you a new one at the time. You were given notice that this might happen over 2 weeks before. Getting sacked would indicate the board terminating your employment during the course of your contract.

Having your contract not being renewed is always a possibility if you wait until the very end of the season to hope for a new contract. You can always request one earlier (usually anytime after the midpoint of the season) and I've found its usually a good thing to do if your doing well at any point after that. Not only does this help your job security a bit, but any transfer/wage budget negotiations you make at this point go into effect immediately, which can give you that little bit of extra wage room to bring in an extra player or two you might need in the stretch run to the end of the season.

You waited until the end of season performance review which you failed.

I'm still convinced that you didn't get your contract renewed because you failed to meet the expectation you set at the beginning of the season. If it really was because of a bug in the long term expectations than you are right and almost all of us will get let go for it at some point. If this is the case than most of us will probably use the time from now until the patch to hone our training and tactics and then restart at that point. Either way its still not an excuse to use the editor.

Personally, I don't care whether you restart or not. You can keep playing that game as long as you want. If your happy playing it, thats great. Jimbo is just asking that you be removed from the official list since your game no longer meets the rules of the challenge (you used the editor).

Not one for regular long updates so i'll probably just stick to jan\end of season!

January first season with Carshalton and I'm sitting in 3rd place of Conference South.

http://img229.imageshack.us/my.php?image=dfc05qs3.jpg

I started the season with 4 straight defeats, followed by 4 straight wins, and since then it has generally been pretty good. Most bad results since early season have been due to injuries, but I have a decent squad size now:

My solution to most problems is to just add more pace. I have quite a lot of pacey strikers that I have no problem putting into midfield or on the wings.

Having Chelsea as my parent team is making things seem quite easy. I got 3 or 4 players on loan including my star player:

http://img519.imageshack.us/my.php?image=dfc06dy9.jpg

My scout reckons that he is near his full potential, so hopefully I can pick him up for cheap somewhere along the line. My scout is terrible though, so he will probably end up world class heh.

Highest goalscoring game: Eastleigh 4 - 5 Carshalton (cup replay, down to 10 men, won last minute)
Highest win: Carshalton 5 - 0 Lewes

Hopefully I can keep my run going and get promoted first season, I don't think it will taste so sweet though with the parent club players I have.

Oh well, perhaps he'll be fit enough to play a role in the run in.

I did manage to sign a striker (http://i219.photobucket.com/albums/cc286/spankie_uk2002/benjackson.jpg) who I hope will be his permanent replacement. 4 goals in 7 games isn't bad for a member of the team.

The game never realizes you're actually promoted until June 19th for whatever reason. So as far as the board or anyone you try and sign are concerned your still in the Blue Square Premier until then unfortunately. Its something that always bugs me. It would be nice if the benefits of promotion would immediately follow the announcement as its difficult to attract any higher quality players until later, at which point they may not be available anymore.

Congrats on winning promotion though! http://community.sigames.com/customicons/icon14.gif

Personally I completely ignore judging ability. I feel that by looking at the stats I can see where the player is now and make a better determination on that one than my scout at lower levels.

The first thing I look for in my scout is Judging potential, as of course thats the one thing I really have no way of knowing.

If theres multiple scouts with the same judging potential I tend to look at Discipline and tactical knowledge.

Discipline is the second primary stat for me as it seems to determine the number of report cards the scout can produce on a daily basis.

tactical knowledge is a questionable stat for me. I had a theory that it was an important factor in determining how detailed the initial reports are, but I have been unable to prove or disprove conclusively. All other things equal I use tactical knowledge as the tiebreaker.

Some scouts seem to be able to complete very detailed reports on players with just a report card, while others seem to take 2-3 matches to get the same results. I haven't been able to figure out exactly what equation is used to determine this, but obviously I'm looking for very detailed scouts and I tend to release those that cant keep pace and try new ones fairly often.

Hope that helps http://community.sigames.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_cool.gif

Ilkeston - Conference North - First Game

Well it was an eventful first game (http://img233.imageshack.us/img233/9372/ilkfirstgamenq8.jpg) in charge of Ilkeston for Gilbster.

Positives is that my newest signing Jon Newby, managed to score 2 goals, despite only joining the squad for the first time hours before kickoff.

Negatives is that I have a thin squad so an injury and 2 red cards may leave me playing with some grey players in the upcoming matches.

(2) My top scorer, a great first season for......Charles Ademeno (http://i43.photobucket.com/albums/e366/mevancook/08Ademeno.jpg)

Season 2009/10 Review - Hendon in the Blue Square Premier

Wasn't expecing that! (http://static.pici.se/pictures/RtTFiPWdi.png)
Just a ridiculously tight fight for the top5 spots. Our final position was only possible thanks to the poor form of the other contenders; mainly Rochdale with their 5 points from the last 5 games.

Season Summary (http://static.pici.se/pictures/QKNSXrDBX.png)
I think I know who our fans will pick for their player of the season...

The Squad (http://static.pici.se/pictures/nzMzucqHy.png)
Quite a few will be leaving. Paul Butler is 37, Adrian Williams is 38, three players are loanees and a bunch just won't cut it in League 2.

Transfers (http://static.pici.se/pictures/SScuIPEMg.png)
Nothing too exciting here. Got who I needed at the start of the season and didn't really do much from there on.

Confidence (http://static.pici.se/pictures/OJptWgxkE.png)
Bagged me a new 1-year contract.

Cup (http://static.pici.se/pictures/hOlwzAFhX.png) Results (http://static.pici.se/pictures/YMYHsguef.png)
A bit unlucky this year, but pleased to have gotten as far into both Setanta Shield and the FA Trophy as we did.

Mangotsfield United - End Of Season Report - Blue Square South - 2008/2009

After an eventful first season with me finishing in 3rd place, thus qualifying for the playoffs!! If offered that at the start of the season I would have bitten somebodies hand off, as you could imagine http://community.sigames.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

As you may remember in my half season report, I was struggling for goals. This continued throughout the second half of the season, with only my loanee, Artus, a regular scorer. With the defence as my strong link, I kept with the defensive approach and catching teams on the break with some route one. This worked against most teams, but as I guessed, some teams worked out how to play against it and shut up shop, meaning there were a few bore draws chucked in for good measure.

As mentioned earlier, I made the playoffs with the semi finals against Basingstoke. Having had a victory and a defeat to them, with the advantage going to the home side.

After a 0-0 at home, I was scepital as the away side in the second leg, having already lost there. After going 1-0 down at half time, I told my team that we needed to get a result tonight. This appeared to achieve nothing as Basingstoke layed seige to my goal. I was within 5 minutes of losing, when that loanee, scored a breakaway goal.. meaning that my moaning of my team bottling it in the big matches was shoved back down my throat. At this point I would like to apologize for my lack of screenies, got carried away and started my pre season, so apologies all round
Extra time came and so nearly went, until 1 minute from time, my 5th choice striker, playing through injuries to everyone else, scored a somewhat sensational goal, scoring from 35 yards out with the keeper stranded. The final whistle blew and we were in the playoff final agains Forest Green, who were the top scorers in the league.

Going for promotion in the first season is something I had dreamed of, but wasnt expecting my season to carry on another couple of games!! Forest Green were clear favourites going into the game and they didnt fail beating my spirited Mangotsfield troops 2-1 (http://i170.photobucket.com/albums/u279/sergent21/playofffinal.jpg) this time in my opinion my team bottled it, with plenty of chances, but nobody wanting to finish it off.

I hope that wasnt to much for everybody, as again I got carried away, and in future, if anybody wants a shorter review to save me babbling on, just let me know http://community.sigames.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Good Luick to everybody, Have fun http://community.sigames.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

AFC Hornchurch - Blue Square South 2012/13 - Playoff Semi Final Second Leg

Extremely pleased with this result (http://i236.photobucket.com/albums/ff262/paulsgruff_fm/playoffsemifinalsecondleg.jpg) because even though they had a man sent off early on, they still battered me throughout the match and I ended up with an 8 man defence holding on at the end, 5 defenders, 2 sweepers and a DMC, and we only just scraped a 0-0 then as they missed 2 great chances to level on aggregate in injury time.

That's the team that finished 2nd out of the way, the final will be against Salisbury, who I have a pretty good record against. I'm half looking forward to it and half dreading it, 5 seasons of stuggle to get this far and it could all either be a waste or all worthwhile by the end of the next match.

I think only AFC Wimbledon and Halesowen (Why Halesowen?) start off with some players, all I had at Marine were eight promoted youth players http://community.sigames.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_frown.gif

I checked the editor and the teams do have players assigned to them in the database (looked like ~11-16 for the teams I checked), yet on a large database they are still not getting loaded, this is either a bug like FM2007 or the starting players are that bad.

Don;t you have to retain all English players for the teams outside the covered leagues to be loaded with there squad?

I checked the editor and the teams do have players assigned to them in the database (looked like ~11-16 for the teams I checked), yet on a large database they are still not getting loaded, this is either a bug like FM2007 or the starting players are that bad.

It's a pain if it is a bug since it was fixed with one of the patches for FM07.

From 2nd in the Championship to 7th. Probably going to get worse for them too.

dlnwba86 - Halesowen Town - BSS Season 2009/2010

This season we finished lower than last, despite being close to the playoffs with 5 games to go (i lost all 5 http://community.sigames.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_frown.gif). I can't seem to find any consistency whatsoever. We were terrible in the cup competitions and despite not going over budget i somehow find myself 250K in debt!!! I am seriously worried for my job now.

One bright spark was Stuart Nicholson who i managed to get back on loan from WBA and he banged in 38 goals in 42 games, yet even he wasn't considered for player of the season in the league.

If i were you i'd be expecting to see me in the dole queue come tomorrow.

Actually, I remember at some point last year, that it was determined it was actually easier by starting with an empty squad and you can choose exactly who you want whereas when you start with players you need to assess what's good and bad and you need to offload players also to make room for new ones.

If someone could test it out though it would be a great help but we'll leave it all with dafuge. http://community.sigames.com/customicons/icon14.gif

You didn't used to (apart from FM07 unpatched), as far as I can remember the game (usually) generates players in the playable leagues, then playable countries and will then fill in the rest by reputation. So a small database will give you less players from Brazil and Italy for example but still generate nearly full teams for English clubs.

The medium database in the patched verison of FM2007 gave you players for the feeder leagues, so you'd expect the large database to aswell, is anyone using a normal or small database get players for the feeder teams in FM08?

Which patch was it fixed in dafuge? I seem to remember it always being that way in FM '07 at least with the teams I played (Staines/Leek Town).

I'm of mixed opinions on the issue. I understand that someone people want to start with players (both to make it easier and for realism) but I sort of like starting empty as it opens the full wage budget for me to bring in new players and saves me the trouble of having to try and get everyone to leave on a free http://community.sigames.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

I think we should stick to the original rules, with a bit of luck it will be sorted in the patch as it was last year. Has anyone mentioned it in the bugs forum yet?

The starting with an empty squad being easier is an interesting one. One one hand, you don't have to sort through all the rubbish players and you can sign players who fit your system better. On the other hand, if you have a low reputation, the players you can bring in are often worse than the players already at the club.

Actually looking back on my old save I guess Leek Town did start with 4-6 players + youth squad. That wasn't too bad as most of them started on rock bottom wages (50p) and were willing to move to anyone http://community.sigames.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Thats true, not using player search is out of date. If Swedish non league players are on your player search its to do with your clubs knowledge somehow.

My 5th season in charge, and my first appearence in the playoffs has lead me to my first appearence in the playoff final. I put no end of effort into this, giving each and every player specific instructions and did a fair bit of opposition instructions also. I'm delighted to say that it payed off.

Result (http://i236.photobucket.com/albums/ff262/paulsgruff_fm/playofffinal.jpg) - Player Ratings (http://i236.photobucket.com/albums/ff262/paulsgruff_fm/playofffinalratings.jpg)

The second I went in front I started playing defensively with counter attack, and managed to nick a second goal shortly after on a good break from my own half. The goal from Ashley Cain (http://i236.photobucket.com/albums/ff262/paulsgruff_fm/ashleycain.jpg) was just part of his record breaking season for the club, where he has notched up the most ever assists, the most ever goals, the most ever man of the match awards and, to top it all off, the Player of the Season (http://i236.photobucket.com/albums/ff262/paulsgruff_fm/playeroftheseason.jpg) award.

Transfers In/Out (http://i236.photobucket.com/albums/ff262/paulsgruff_fm/transfers-2.jpg) - Promotion Winning Squad (http://i236.photobucket.com/albums/ff262/paulsgruff_fm/squad-1.jpg) - Board and Fan Confidence (http://i236.photobucket.com/albums/ff262/paulsgruff_fm/confidence-1.jpg) - My Profile (http://i236.photobucket.com/albums/ff262/paulsgruff_fm/profile-3.jpg)

I'm absolutely delighted that I have finally managed to get promotion after my 5th attempt, but I do have a few questions I would like some people to answer that have already achieved this if it isn't too much trouble. Have you totally cleared out your squad of staff and players and started fresh after promotion, or have you stuck with the team you had and only brought in a few players to keep the team together in the new season. I was planning on totally rebuilding in the summer, but my side is playing so well at the moment that I'm worried about disrupting the squad harmony. Alot of my players and staff have their contract up at the end of the season, so I can offload them for nothing should I need to, but would prefer some opinions on it first.

Also, to celebrate my promotion - I have decided to reward myself and remake the totally crap kits that Hornchurch has into a style that I prefer and is modelled with Barcelona in mind with the sponsor (as naturally we are dubbed the next Barcelona now we are in the Blue Square Premier. My new AFC Hornchurch fantasy kits will look like this: [http://i236.photobucket.com/albums/ff262/paulsgruff_fm/home.png]Home - [http://i236.photobucket.com/albums/ff262/paulsgruff_fm/away.png]Away. Far better, fit for the new season now http://community.sigames.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Still assembling the squad in the preseason but managed to snatch a Full International (http://s243.photobucket.com/albums/ff106/Falcon21_bucket/?action=view&current=Firstinternational.jpg) from Doncaster on a Free Transfer. He looks pretty decent http://community.sigames.com/customicons/icon14.gif

Now to find a striker than can score...

I've done that already, I'm assuming it's something wrong with the types of invited teams like Mexico and Costa Rica into the competition.

cookie. Super Kyle certainly wasn't up to much in FM07, but so far in my game he has scored 51 goals in 2 and a bit seasons. Sounds pretty good to me.

Jordanknox. Look, I'm not making this personal as I can imagine how you felt, but use of the editor is a big no no. If it makes you feel any bettewr I have encountered an attendance bug that looks like it will make me get the sach for poor financial performances and I will just have to take it on thechin and start again.

I did manage to sign a striker (http://i219.photobucket.com/albums/cc286/spankie_uk2002/benjackson.jpg) who I hope will be his permanent replacement. 4 goals in 7 games isn't bad for a member of the team.

First game back and he came on as sub on 71st minute, then this happened (http://i219.photobucket.com/albums/cc286/spankie_uk2002/quickestinjury4mins.jpg) injured within 4 minutes http://community.sigames.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_frown.gif

Accidental collision (http://i219.photobucket.com/albums/cc286/spankie_uk2002/baidoomed.jpg) my arse, they know that he's the best striker at the club.

I was wrong, it took 2 minutes (http://i219.photobucket.com/albums/cc286/spankie_uk2002/2minsinjury.jpg) for some dumb lump to break Baidoo's jaw.

I've put it in the FM2008 records thread.

That's because I haven't started playing yet, I'd mastered the boring 0-0 draw on FM2007 http://community.sigames.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif </div></BLOCKQUOTE>

CHippenham Town Season 11/12 End Of Season Update

well a little behind in the updates so this is probabally going to be followed quiclkly by a season 12/13 update as am almost at the end of that now. luckily i took screenies etc but had the day off so been on a marathon playing session.

Well after an average season last year finnishing in 13th place the chippenham faithfull where expecting to see the bluebirds to come in at a mid table finish. after due consideration manager james leedham decided this was a realistic goal so didnt aim any higher for this his second season in the BS premiership.

After a yoyoing start seeing the bluebirds go from 5th to 20th and 7th to 19th they settles a bit in the mid season unfortuantly sticking in and around 19th place. But a spirited performance in the last 12 games of the season saw them climb back to last year position to once again finish in 13th place.

FA cup and trophy runs where a no go this year and seeing them crash out in the 4th rnd qualifying of the FA cup and the 3rd rnd ofthe FA trophy. But a good performance was had in the setanta shield getting knocked out in the Semi final.

Unfortuantly this season saw the depature of rising Star John Morgan (http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b219/jsar/fm1112/JM.jpg) to leeds for the sum of 65k a sum the board felt was to good to refuse, whilst the extra cash will be usefull the loss of such a talented youngster was a big blow for the bluebirds

Allan has already mentioned the possibility of adding other cup wins to our achievements.

Yup but my defence blows, jst got a new central defender to try and shore things up until the end of the season. Im winning alot of games scoring 3 or 4 goals and conceding 2. http://community.sigames.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

My best striker is unfortunatly only on loan tho http://community.sigames.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_frown.gif

I'm in my 2nd season and comfortably improved the squad, but I'm still unable to get any loans in at all.

To be honest, I think it's larget irrelevant as I think that an "attendance bug" is about to bite me right on my bug fat behind and get me the sack after losing only 21 of 68 games playedhttp://community.sigames.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_frown.gif.
