what does 'continue delay' preference mean?

I noticed in the preferences something called continue delay (or something similar, cant remember exactly and am at work) with options of instant to 10 seconds available. Does anyone kknow what this is referring to?

If you are in a network game the host can choose auto continue with a set time so he doesn't have to wait for everybody to press continue.
