players potential poor on 2010

Recommended Posts

im currently playing with two clubs atm; blackburn where after 2 seasons i got into europe (europa league) and another with middlesbrough where i got into europe after 3.blackburn is on the original database and middlesbrough on the first update ive noticed in both databases that 1.some potential top notch players do not amount to anything and are not rated well on game. case and point being jack wilshere and joe hart who in both my games are pretty poor i.e barely get above decent prem player yet wilshere especially still costs loads. this is especially bad in the original database where players like agbonlahor dont even play for Villa because hes not good enough, yet i bought aron gunnerson from coventry and he ends up being brilliant.----this obviously makes no sense.

also the other managers buy so poorly especially liverpool, and arsenal barely buy any1, never mind youngsters like they would do. this issue really lets the game down (yet i still eat, drink and sleep the game to the detriment to my social life) and have never experienced such bad ability ratings in any previous fm's.has any1 else noticed this or am i just going crazy????

Yes I noticed this recently when Barca had Bojan transfer listed for 3.6 million pounds, I couldn't get the bid in fast enough but then when he signed for me he just wouldn't perform no matter what I tried, I checked his ca and it was...well lets just say barely mid table Prem standard and certainly not up to being in my title winning Man City side. The only good thing about it was I managed to make a tidy profit when I offloaded him to Blackburn.

On a similar note - I'm always left feeling annoyed/disappointed by the poor potential of Liverpool's youngsters when I manage them. I know we don't have the next Messi or Zidane on our books but even the players who have a high PA (Pacheco, Lauri Dalla Valle, Németh et al) never turn out well because they have so many attributes that are set so low. LDV has a team work rating of 2 for example, meaning I'm more than happy to sell him. There isn't a single player on Liverpool's books at game start that I would develop into a first-team regular, and I never get one through the academy at the beginning of any subsequent season. :/

It seems to me that players have to begin their careers as Premiership-class kids in order for them to become top quality (they basically have to start at close to their PA).

I find players never develop in the youth and reserves - you have to loan them out. I barely saw green arrows so I hit open FMRTE and monitored the PAs instead. Some of my players' CAs have risen by 1-2 points after 2 seasons, for example. The most promising academy youngster has had a whopping 6 CA points gained in 2 seasons.

i totally agree.although it may be because im a liverpool fan and i watch the reserves and youth team alot, but its about time that one of them came through. i mean there might be no stand out younsters at liverpool (eg a wilshere) but there are alot of good ones who just might end up being quality, like pacheo, LDV, kelly, mavinga etc and with the right nurturing (which is unlikely under rafa i think) one of them really could be very good. i think thats the one thing that FM has never dealt with. for example on the old champ man lets says 2003/4 did they give jimmy bullard a chance of being a top player??????NO! i think that most of the potential abilities of players are to rigid and as shown by the example are far from realistic as other examples of players that were poorly rated early in their career include stuart pearce, Ian wright etc (if they were early in their career and in FM 10 they would be seen as no hopers). i think in the game the development of most players should revolve more around what happens in the game and the way they are managed. For example it could be argued that gareth bale was more highly rated than walcott when at southampton, but which one fulfilled there potential quicker, the one with the nurturing manager.i doubt that even walcott or rooney or any1 for that matter would not be who they are if they just sat in the reserves and went out on loan all the time (which in the game you can do with some good youngsters and they still become quality). i think this could be done by giving specialist training to better youth players which takes time away from coaches (meaning you cant train loads at once) to train them in certain areas and getting advice from assistant manager when to send them out on loan or give them a run in team etc.

well im glad i got that off my chest, i hope SI is listening.
