Backround Music: Your Football Manager Playlist

Recommended Posts

I was curious as to what music people like to listen to as they play, the reason I ask is that recently I have found the mood of my music completely mirroring the mood of my season.

I am to be imminently sacked from my post at Leyton Orient for instance, and have gravitated towards a playlist riddled with sad songs (in every sense!) by Boyz II Men, East 17 and The Streets. Three Lions has just come on though to give me some hope...maybe I can avoid the boot!

Am I just ridiculous or do people find their soundtracks reflecting their season as I do?

The Clash - Should I Stay or Should I Go; when offered a new job

New Order - Temptation; during the January transfer window

Yazz - the only way is up; when starting with a level 10 or 11 team

Rolling Stones - Miss You; for all of those penalty shootouts

Abba - Money Money Money; for those away days at Man City

Beck - Loser; for thpse away days at Man City

Nothing I tend to listen to specifically when playing, although thinking about it maybe it could be interesting to try and play 'appropriate' music for certain fixtures. :D

Perhaps listen to some Chas & Dave when I play West Ham or some Gerry and the Pacemakers for playing Liverpool...

I use it to listen to albums that I don't usually sit down and listen to; I've discovered (or rediscovered) a lot of stuff I like that way, actually.

Right now, though, I've got a White Stripes/Dead Weather mix playlist that's been getting a lot of time. I also use the time to catch up on my podcasts (the World Football Phone-in and the various "How Stuff Works" podcasts are both pretty good background listening), but sometimes those can be distracting.

"According to Men's Health magazine a couple of years ago we were cited in 35 divorce cases in one year," sighs Sports Interactive's managing director Miles Jacobson. "Which is slightly worrying, but if people want to escape into this other world then there's maybe something wrong with the world they're living in already?"

I listen to a variety of stuff on itunes, and used to play the CL music when I was playing in that :D

But recently I swear that some songs give me more luck than others!

Keeping my mouse cursor in the bottom right hand corner, so i can just see the tip of the pointer, brings me luck :D

Wow I thought I had OCD. I move the mouse off the right-hand side of the screen when am playin a match, so I cant see it! Classic Simon I love it

Tunes? Owt. Today, The Killers at T In The Park and REM...yesterday, U2 and House Martins...day before, Radiohead Glastonbury 97. The music decides the mood, not the other way round for me. Altho I got careless and chucked a 3-2 away 1st leg lead away in Carling Cup semi v Newcastle cuz I had Kennedy by The Wedding Present on full blast and wasnt looking.

The big bind is lowering FM's volume so it doesnt blast out on match day when I turn me music up

EDIT: And me save games are probably twice as long in days as they should be due to `a quick nip on the forums' that lasts 2 hours....now where was I? Oh yeah, Hull at home...

There is no time for music, I play FM and MW2 simultaneously!

But if it is really late, then I just shove iPod on shuffle, I have no particular soundtrack :p

FM and MW2 now THATS multi-tasking! Thought I was clever managing FM and facebook poker at the same time :)

Doesn't even include 2 from me. Got a wife who really appreciates FM now. Must introduce her to feather fetishes though.

Back OT, 24 hour TV footie in the background. Does get confusing at times when the commentary in my head and in my ears overlaps.

Usually watch football, but here in the States, most games are on in the morning (not exactly the time I play). Other than that, whatever's on the TV. House MD, CSI, NCIS, NCIS:LA, Criminal Minds, or if all else fails...college basketball.

On rare occasions, when playing a team's rival or big cup game, but only when it's a blowout or comeback win, I have the tendency to play The Final Countdown.

I'm the same. Laptop for FM, desktop for internet and other games. Usually EVE Online at the moment, but I've got a whole stack of games I need to complete (including some Xbox 360 and PS3 games).

As for music, anything that's on my iPod, Spotify, Last.fm, or videos off YouTube. So this covers everything from Fleetwood Mac to clips of Schools & Colleges programs from the early 80s. :p
