Maintaining good relationships with coaches.

I have been befriending Mark Hughes for over 4 years now (I'm Chelsea). There's something I am curious about...everytime I get him to the point of, "Feeling he has a good relationship with you," a week or so later, it reverts back to, "Feels you two could become friends." Why can't I stay in good standing with me? I'm thinking perhaps it's just the nature of our rivalry, we both spend a lot of cash..often go after the same players (they stole Criscito from me, we often go after similar youths), play each other in cups and big games a lot, and are both top clubs...but still, what can I do to keep us as being good friends?
