Does anyone ever take really long shots?

Why I'm asking is that in the dying seconds of my last game, against Racing, Messi could have won it. Tono the goalie came 25 yards out from the goal and to the sideline to collect the ball, where he hit a hospital pass sraight to Messi 40 yards out but sraight in fron of the goal, with no-one in front of him either.

In real life he would have trapped it and hit it, but in the game he dribbles to the 18 yard line before shooting, giving Tono the time to come back and make the save. I was flabbergasted frankly.

I've had a couple of times when players could've gone for the long shot after a keeping coming up for a corner, but they never seem to go for it or even think about it.

Normally my players do what Messi did for you. But once, only once, Michael Carrick put it in from 50 yards after the keeper went up for a corner!

Maybe it could be coded into the next patch to happen more often, as frankly a player like Messi wouldn't even think about running the ball in that situation IRL, he'd just shoot.

I stayed up as Plymouth after something like this. I forget who scored it but it was the 89th minute and we needed a goal. Made me jump with joy.

I've had a couple of moments of cussing when a keeper could have been caught miles off his line.

It's really annoying when a player who likes to lob the keeper fails to take the opportunity to do so.

The players used to react realistically in these situations, but since FM09 they don't. It seems like SI just completely broke the match engine between FM08 and FM09 and the problems still haven't been sorted out.

Ronaldo scored for me from his own half once. It was a lob too, not resulting from the opposition keeper leaving his goal for a corner or whatnot; he was just standing a little too far off his line. Needless to say, I was astounded

The computer has just scored a 75 yarder past my clueless keeper.

My MC, Borja, scored from 45 yards when the keeper, 5 or so yards out side his area, miscontrolled a pass.

Palsson did it for me at Utrecht 55 yarder I think!

Sometimes I use shoot on sight, but all they do is blast it over the net. Probably only scored two long shots this whole season (out of maybe 5,000 attempted!).
