Avon Barksdale
.. with Everton. Media etc tells me I'll be in the Champions League next season - naturally I'm very excited. Except when the season kicks in, it turns out I'm actually in the EURO Cup. Why o why o why? Anyone?

Bongo-Bongo
The team in 5th won the champs league. WHS Pre 2005, if the situation arose that the team that won the CL didn't finish top four (unless less then four teams went into the CL), UEFA, being the spineless organisation that they are, passed the buck and left it up to the national FA to decide who qualified. When Real won it last, IIRC, they finished fifth, but the Spanish FA decided that they would go through. When Liverpool won it though, the FA decided that Everton should take the last place (and rightly so, even though I'm a Liverpool fan). This then put UEFA under pressure as it presented the situation of the Champions League not containing the tournaments reigning champions and allowed Liverpool through as well, albeit starting from the very first qualifying round. Now, if the team that wins the CL comes from a nation that has three or less places and the winner doesn't occupy one of these, then they are allowed in, but if they come from one of the three nations with four spots yet finish outside the top four then the team in fourth will lose their place. Harsh, put IMO, only the team in first should be there anyway.
Shanksie1975
IMO, only the team in first should be there anyway. Totally agree with you on this one.

bayern8176
Agreed - how can you be the champions of europe and be the best there is but in your own country you could finish 4th. At the end of the day it is all about MONEY. They should bring back the cup winners cup and revert back to the way it used to be it would be a lot better. Nowadays you can lose 3 games in the champions league but still go through i mean how crap is that.
santy001
Ultimately, the team that wins the autoglass/LDV/latest sponsor name is more elligible than the team that finishes 4th in the premiership imo. But it would make a lot more of the competitions be taken seriously if it was Premiership champions, League cup champions, FA cup champions and then sort something for the 4th spot.
