Zanzibar aren't a country they are a semi-autonomous region within Tanzania, it used to be an Arab sultanate (and centre of the slave trade in late 1800's), then a British colony until 1963, then a kngdom until a revolution a few months later, and shortly after that was subsumed into Tanganyika (the country corresponding to the area it controlled as an Arab sultanate). But because of its seperate identity as a colony and country (Tanganyika was originally annexed by Germany) it has it's own FA and league, and sends a representative team to regional soccer torunaments such as the CECAFA cup. Its a bit sad I know but I'm a history buff who also reads World Soccer.

P.S. if you look at the map on the Wikipedia page you'll see what the Mafuia did with all their Vegas money:D.
