Strikers not shooting - what is the Match Engine trying to tell me?

I am having a curious problem with the game. I am losing games by the odd goal but playing well and creating chances. The problem is that my front three are getting various 1 on 1 opportunites but aren't missing but not shooting; the defender recovers and puts it out for a corner despite my forward having a clear shot on goal. Two have long shots set to sometimes, one never because of stats (these are Blue Square Prem) but that surely can't be it. They are in the box FGS.
