hannan300188
it happened in real life, Markus Babbel missed a season while at Liverpool around about 2002-2003

Oxford_Canary
Wow, tough break on that one. About as annoying as the time Patrick Vieira got suspended for a year in one of my old CM01/02 for punching a ref in an international friendly. It's a bit of an odd one because they normally don't give out injuries for things that aren't football related (barring short-term flu, colds, food poisoning etc). Really nasty real life things don't make an appearance (for fairly obvious reasons).
hannan300188
as far as I know yes, but iirc then Markus Babbel ended up a wheelchair for a short period of time and lost a load of weight so you can see how it can be "serious" and not just a bout of flu or something similar

ACMilanBRA
why does he heals faster while staying in home instead of going to a specialist ?

redmark
The unrealistic part of this is that you're being told upfront he's going to be out for months. It should start with "a couple of weeks", then progress to something more serious, then "we better send him to a specialist", etc.

anagain
Meningitis is a virus. That's a serious condition that would put someone out of action for 6 months. I was waiting for this to pop up again. There's at least 2 or 3 threads complaining about a player being out for 6 months with a virus every year. The unrealistic part of this is that you're being told upfront he's going to be out for months. It should start with "a couple of weeks", then progress to something more serious, then "we better send him to a specialist", etc. I think if a player had a serious viral condition such as meningitis then the doctors would know he'd be out for a while. These serious conditions have symptoms all of their own and doctors are trained professionals. They don't say 'go home for a week and see if you get better'. Jamie543
I find the unrealistic thing here is that if you send him to see a specialist he is out longer :S but if he sits in doors he gets well quicker doesnt make sense
PAdlard
I find the unrealistic thing here is that if you send him to see a specialist he is out longer :S but if he sits in doors he gets well quicker doesnt make sense Perhaps reflecting doctors taking a more conservative approach? Ezequiel_Lavezzi
I was diagnosed with glandular fever in 2002. I ended up getting chronic fatigue from it - I couldn't even walk much for 18 months. I also got a stroke from it too. (long story.) Thats how bad a virus can get. woody2goody
One of my teachers from the first year of high school contracted a virus and was away for 6 months or so. wardog
iirc a few years ago as Chris Burke was making his name for Rangers, he took unwell continued playing and then collapsed on the pitch against Aberdeen. Im sure he was sent home and not allowed out for months. Hes never been the same player since.

Oldham Going Up
Here's a real world example: http://www.walesonline.co.uk/footballnation/football-news/2009/11/21/cardiff-city-star-stephen-mcphail-diagnosed-with-cancer-91466-25218651/ Now, that's onloy two months, but if it was stage 2 or beyond. gmulv
Babbel had Guillian-Barre syndrome, which is a fairly debilitating neurological condition. It can affect nerves supplying muscles and clasically affetc the hands and feet first and can gradually work its way up the body. If it affect the nerves that supply your muscles you need to breath, you are in trouble. In its worse form it can be fatal. So viruses can be very nasty things!
