Niall_The_Miller
...but I've had a quick browse and am not sure exactly what will work. Basically, Steam was working fine until yesterday. I didn't install anything new or make any chances, but when I started the computer up all of a sudden there were problems with it. Now, when trying to start it up, it simply sits there saying 'updating' but doesn't move from 0%. I've seen a few changes or simply 're-starting' Steam, but what exactly does this mean? Re-installing it? Sort of not really wanting to mess about with the internal system, so hoping it's a fairly superficial problem. Thanks for any help you can give. Niall_The_Miller
Just tried disabling the firewall to see if that was the problem...no luck. If anyone has any suggestions it'd be greatly appreciated. PS I'm guessing it's not a problem with the internet as I'm here...

GillsMan
I did have this problem and I remember that it resolved itself after a couple of hours, so I assumed at the time that their servers were just busy. Clearly it's been affecting you for a while though, so not sure what the issue is for you. You could try a repair install if Steam have such an option. Someone else who's gone through this may have a better take on it than me.
taylorsmen
There has been a few problems with steam lately i believe(i read on the steam forums) Maybe delete the "clientregistry.blob" file and restart steam, that might work. and don't worry, deleting this file won't mess up anything. C:\Program Files\Valve\Steam Follow that path and the file will be found.
NewcastleGateshead Pete
I had this problem too, but it was just Steam updating. I left it to its business and when I came back a little while later is was all sorted.
